McGregor and Plummer take Mike Mills For 'Beginners'

I'm squeezing all the juice out of this Production Weekly tweet. In 140 characters we now know that: the already mentioned Ewan McGregor will join the small, indie production and will be acting alongside vet thesp Christopher Plummer (The Last Station) in a project that will go by the title of Beginners. - I'm squeezing all the juice out of this Production Weekly tweet. In 140 characters we now know that: the already mentioned Ewan McGregor will join the small, indie production and will be acting alongside vet thesp Christopher Plummer (The Last Station) in a project that will go by the title of Beginners. Unlike Thumbsucker, I have a gut feeling that Mike MIlls will be working from an original screenplay. Filming is set to begin in L.A. next month, we can look forward to to this long awaited sophomore feature in 2010 - perhaps as early as Cannes? Sony Pictures Classics »

Goran Visnjic Joins Beginners

8 November 2009 11:15 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

With the doors of ER’s County General Hospital now forever closed, poor old Goran Visnjic – who played dishy doc Dr. Luka Kovac – has had to find a new home. And it looks like he’s decided to give the big screen one last try by signing on to join Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Inglourious Basterds star, Melanie Laurent, in Beginners.Mike Mills – the director of Thumbsucker, not to be confused with  R.E.M.’s frizzy-haired bassist – is directing the indie movie, whose plot is being kept very firmly under wraps, from his own script. Filming has already begun in L.A.Visjnic, thus far, hasn’t exactly set the movie world alight. He’s had bad guy turns in the likes of Practical Magic and The Deep End, was the love interest in the risible Elektra, and impressed in Michael Winterbottom’s Welcome To Sarajevo. But, now »

Ewan's Next Gay Storyline

7 October 2009 3:20 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Our friends over at The Playlist noticed a recent announcement about a mysterious new film from director Mike Mills (Thumbsucker) called Beginners, set to star Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. What's this project about, they wondered? Well, you know how we like to shed light on secret loglines at Movieline, and we do have the script, so here's the exclusive plot synopsis: McGregor plays a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Plummer)...one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he's coming out of the closet. The role of Plummer's handsome younger boyfriend has not yet been cast, but we're frankly shocked that the famously gay-friendly McGregor (soon to be seen canoodling with Jim Carrey in I Love You Phillip Morris) isn't playing that part instead. Likely Story Chooses a Graphic Novel that is 'Too Cool to be Forgotten'

10 June 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- Known for having great taste in film and for producing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Thumbsucker, Synecdoche, New York, and Nicole Holofcener's three last works, Anthony Bregman's Likely Story has (according to MTV's Splashpage via The Playlist) optioned the rights to Top Shelf Productions' Alex Robinson's graphic-novel "Too Cool To Be Forgotten." I can't think of too many independent film producers grabbing graphic novel properties - got to keep in mind this is Art School Confidential sort and not a tale spun with superheroes and super villains kind. Robinson seems to have a cult following or sorts that stems from his previous graphic novels titles Box Office Poison and Tricked.  The graphic novel which was released back in July of 2008, tells the story of a 40-year-old man who undergoes hypnosis therapy to quit smoking, only to wake up in the body of his 15-year-old self. 17 March 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

MoviesOnline sat down with Rosario Dawson (“Sin City 2”) to talk about her new film, “Explicit Ills,” directed by actor Mark Webber (“Broken Flowers”) in his feature directorial debut. “Explicit Ills” follows four inter-connecting stories revolving around love, drugs and poverty in Philadelphia. The film also stars Paul Dano, Naomie Harris (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), Lou Taylor Pucci (“Thumbsucker”), Frankie Shaw, Tariq Trotter of The Roots, and introduces Francisco Burgos. In this lyrical and moving drama, disparate i... »

Exclusive: Lou Taylor Pucci Video Interview -- Lou talks about Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, Arlen Faber, The Informers, being a judge at Sundance, The Go-Getter, and more

23 February 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

While Sundance/Slamdance happened about a month ago, I’m only now editing the final tape of video interviews that I recorded at the Festival. I know it’s a bit late…but it takes a lot of time to edit, render and post almost 7 hours of video. I hope you understand why it’s taken so long... Now that my apology is out of the way, let’s get to my video interview with Lou Taylor Pucci. While Lou’s name might not be that familiar to a lot of you, I’ve been a fan of his work since I saw him in “Thumbsucker”. After that film, Lou worked on a few other projects, but the next one that really caught my eye was an underappreciated gem called “The Go-Getter”. It was a road trip movie that also starred Zooey Deschanel and Jena Malone and it had some really great cinematography. »
