'Sons of Anarchy' star Charlie Hunnam talks about his screenplay for 'Vlad' (sorry, no vampires)

9 December 2009 10:52 AM, PST | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

Yes, Vlad the Impaler, a 15th century badass whose penchant for brutality and fighting at night were meant to strike fear in the heart of the Ottoman Empire and give his outnumbered forces an advantage on their home battlefield, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. And yes, the Vlad screenplay, written by Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, will be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and Summit Entertainment, the studio behind Twilight. But no, you will not be seeing vampires. In fact, that was a non-negotiable point for Hunnam, who became fascinated with Vlad, a national hero of Romania, »

Summit Looks To 'Twilight' Roots For Brad Pitt's 'Vlad'

7 December 2009 10:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Vampires pretty much put Summit Entertainment on the map after the company made the wise decision to produce and distribute "Twilight." Now, as Summit continues to rake in money with "New Moon," The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the house Edward Cullen built is interested in exploring the roots of the undead creatures at the heart of the franchise.

Summit will collaborate with Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, on "Vlad," a period action film about Vlad the Impaler as a young prince. The real-life 15th century Wallachian ruler, famously the inspiration for Bram Stoker's book "Dracula," may not be portrayed in the film as a vampire, but his connection to the mythology cannot really be ignored.

Viewers may also be reminded that Pitt starred in "Interview With the Vampire," though it's not likely the actor will appear in "Vlad," for which Summit reportedly wants to "break a new talent. »

Hunnam Ditches Period Roles To Become A Real-life Biker

30 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actor Charlie Hunnam loves playing a tough biker on TV so much, he has become a low-key Hell's Angel.

The star of period movie Nicholas Nickleby plays a gruff biker on hit U.S. TV show Sons of Anarchy - and he really has taken to the part.

As well as choosing to follow strict biker codes and fashions, the Brit wears a bullet round his neck to honour a fallen rider pal and has just bought a Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide - just like the one his character rides in the show.

He says, "I hang out with them (bikers) for a few days whenever I start to feel like I'm wavering .

"It's a question of knowing how to behave. Be quiet until you have a really firm grasp on what's going on, and then you can open up a little bit... They're not succumbing to living life in a nine-to-five way. That's something I understand." »

10 Most Underrated Young Actors

12 October 2009 7:54 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

- - -

- - - Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?

Douglas McGrath Gets Lucky

19 August 2009 12:14 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Infamous writer/director Douglas McGrath has signed up to direct The Lucky One, an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' Iraq War-set romance for Warner Bros. The Lucky One in question is a Us Marine who attributes his survival through three tours in Iraq to his lucky charm, a photo of a smiling woman he carries with him. When he returns home to North Carolina he tracks down the mysterious lady and romance ensures. Or does it?Frankly, we're not sure, but if you were to expect a heart-string tugging romance with a tinge of melodrama, you'd probably not be too far wrong. Sparks' novels have been adapted into movies with Grisham-esque regularity - he's the man behind The Notebook, Message In A Bottle, A Walk To Remember, Night In Rodanthe, which should give you some idea of what to expect. McGrath, meanwhile, has a strong track record in literary adaptations. »

Who Should Play "Thor?" Meet the Wannabes!

17 March 2009 2:03 PM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

"Thor" the movie, already has an opening date (June 17, 2011) but still no lead! Kenneth Branagh is now attached to direct the film, and is working mighty hard to cast his Norse god!

So who have been mentioned for the lead role?

First, we have Josh Hartnett. Why is there a big push to cast him? I have no idea, but apparently, Branagh is considering him for either the role of Thor or his nemesis, Loki.

Then, we have a bunch of unknowns! And I'll post their mini-bio from IMDb, okay? And keep in mind, these actors are all being tossed around for the role of Thor.

Here we go. Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Matthew Hunnam was born in Newcastle, England on April 10, 1980. At 16 years of age, he made guest appearances in the popular TV series "Byker Grove" (1989).

Perhaps his most famous television role has been that of the love-smitten Nathan Maloney »
