Aqua Teen Hunger Force says Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas

So you're out buying the last of your gifts on Christmas Eve, and you've just about had it. Before you pull up to the counter one last time, there's something you need for your ride home. Aqua Teen Hunger Force's Christmas album, Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas.
Yes, it is silly, downright juvenile, and even a tad obscene in places. But as holiday stress relief goes, it's hard to top "I Sure Hope I Don't Have to Beat Your Ass This Christmas," with an ungrateful Master Shake threatening poor little Meatwad (the live version of the song is above). Or Meatwad's duet with alt.country siren Neko Case on "Santa Left a Booger in My Stocking." Or Meatwad singing "Feliz Navi-wad." (If you're not a Meatwad fan, don't pick this up, he's featured on almost every track).

Well, we don't know what to tell Virginia about the fact that our favorite Internet radio station of punk rock Christmas music has disappeared this year, but there's still plenty of non-traditional and off-the-beaten-track holiday music out there. Enjoy! 1. Xmas in Frisko. One of San Francisco's finest exports, SomaFM continues to specialize in bringing us the most deliciously eccentric holiday music out there. A recent session yielded "Christmas Wrap" by Two Live Jews, "Twas The Night Before Jesus" by Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and "Santa Claus Is A Black Man" by The Teddy Vann Production Company. Special. 2. (S07E01) "Larger point: listeners ain't gonna know until they've already paid for the album!" - Shake
Those words, spoken by Master Shake, while recording his Christmas album with Meatwad, were intended to be a jab at consumers -- our Christmas album sucks but you won't figure that out until we have your money. On the contrary, the album (aptly titled "Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas") is an absolute goldmine of comical music hits for fans of the show.
However, last night's companion episode was anything but that. Paling in comparison to classic Athf X-mas fare (like "Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past From the Future"), "A Pe Christmas" could have truly captilized on the idea of Shake making Christmas music, but instead never took the idea far enough.

Boston Film Critics Blow Up 'The Hurt Locker'

By: Erik Childress
From the city that once called in the bomb squad to defuse a prank from the creators of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, their cinema critics have given back a little love to those that kept them safe from that little stunt.
With the exception of one category, the Boston Society of Film Critics have not exactly been dominant in forecasting locks in terms of Oscar nominations. But one film did dominate this year's selections and has, for the moment, overtaken Up In The Air (which was shut out in Beantown) for the most victories in total awards to date. Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker won five awards including Picture, Director, Actor, Cinematography and Editing. Taking Wall-e's share of the tie with Slumdog Millionaire out of the equation, Boston's last seven choices for Best Picture have gone onto an Oscar nomination and the last three have proved victorious.

It’s a crazy, mixed up world and we are thankful for movies, sans New Moon, that offer proof. Weekend Weirdness cocks its disoriented, nappy head to examine such flicks, whether it's a new trailer for a provocative indie, a review, or news of an excavated cult classic. The works discussed herein tend to make cinema a little more interesting, and in the best and worst cases do the same for life. In this installment: Final Flesh is a real life Videodrome with porn actors from the co-creator of Wonder Showzen; Dirty is the forthcoming, surprisingly solid doc on the late Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard; [adult swim]'s Aqua Teen Hunger Force plops out a spicy Meatwad of a Xmas album, and more, G. The "G" is courtesy Nic Cage's bad lieutenant.

Maybe the seemingly haphazard collection of shows in the 12-disc Adult Swim in a Box is designed as a profound statement about the perceived randomness of life. Or maybe the people who put it together were just as high as the Williams Street crew behind Aqua Teen Hunger Force must be nowadays to be churning out the increasingly stranger seasons of their show. Maybe it just has more to do with what Adult Swim in a Box reads as if one flips around the top of the paper case in which it comes – “Cash Grab in a Box.”
The collection is simply a paper sleeve, no extra frills, containing the retail box sets of six of the programming’s series – Sealab 2021 (Season 2), Metalocalypse (Season 1), Robot Chicken (Season 2), Space Ghost Coast to Coast (Season 3), Moral Orel (Season 1) and Aqua Team Hunger Force (Volume 2)

TV's Best of the Decade: No. 22 -- 'The Simpsons'

If all-ages TV animation went from marginalized to mainstream in the '90s, the genre went from mainstream to ubiquitous on the '00s. The old standbys were already there from the previous decade, including "Family Guy" and "Futurama," which both premiered in 1999, but thanks to Comedy Central and the Cartoon Network, particularly the late-night Adult Swim block, the diversity of styles and tones were ever expanding. Adult Swim, in particular, probably deserves some sort of recognition or placement on a list like this, as it premiered in 2001 and gave a home to everything from "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" to

Here's a clip from this Sunday's Aqua Teen Hunger Force X-mas special

Adult Swim has been pretty mum on what to expect in this Sunday night's Aqua Teen Hunger Force Christmas special (it airs at 11:45 p.m. Et) but most speculation has suggested that it will have something to do with the recently released Aqua Teen Hunger Force Christmas album. Looks like that's the case based on the below video clip -- Master Shake and Meatwad are in the recording studio, trying their best to spice up a not-so-familiar holiday classic.
While the episode (it's entitled "A Pe Christmas") kicks off the series' seventh season, we won't get any more new episodes until the beginning of February 2010. So take it all in while you can -- it's not everyday that you get to hear about Jesus, Krypton, The Wrath of Khan, and Ricardo Montalbán all in the same Christmas carol.

One of the great TV characters right now is the mysterious bald Observer on Fox's Fringe. And he's popped up in other places as well, including Fox baseball game coverage.
This pic was taken this morning at South Station in Boston (larger version here). Many mysterious bald guys standing around. Also, they were handing out these. I wonder if this freaked anyone out after that Aqua Teen Hunger Force promo fiasco.

With the holidays fast approaching, it's good to know that Adult Swim is thinking of you. According to their online schedule, Aqua Teen Hunger Force will return on December 13th at 11:45 p.m. Et with an episode elusively referred to as "Athf Xmas."
In true Adult Swim fashion, there's been absolutely no indication as to what this episode might be about, however it's likely that it somehow ties into the recently released Aqua Teen Hunger Force Christmas CD, Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas. If you haven't bought it yet, do yourself a favor and get it now. Trust me when I say that you haven't lived until you've heard Meatwad croon his own version of "Silent Night" or Carl cackle his way through "I'll Be Home for Christmas."
Anyway, regarding the episode, it's the only one listed on the schedule, so it's probably not the new season premiere,

When Viral Marketing Goes Wrong

"2012" may have destroyed the box office this weekend, but it also did plenty of damage to Nasa, who received thousands of letters and phone calls from concerned citizens that the world was going to end in just over two years -- so much so that Nasa set up a site to specifically debunk their fears. Roland Emmerich's latest disaster flick would've inevitably inspired some to panic regardless, but these calls got an assist from Sony's viral marketing campaign for the film, which included a web site devoted to The Institute for Human Continuity that, among other things, offers visitors an opportunity to register for a lottery to increase their chance of survival when the apocalypse strikes. The move inspired some, like Stuart McGurk at the Guardian to look at the ways viral marketing "can go bad." I'd like to add to the pile four more risky movie marketing maneuvers that bombed,

2012 and how good viral marketing can go bad

Disaster movie 2012 inspired panic in the States with Nasa having to reassure Americans that the world wasn't about to end. Is movie viral marketing getting too clever for its own good?
When Columbia Pictures launched a marketing campaign for 2012 – the latest disaster movie from serial Earth molester Roland Emmerich, where the planet, played by America, is set for impending doom – they didn't do it by halves.
First, there was a teaser trailer showing a tsunami crashing over the Himalayas. The Earth was going to end in 2012, it said, and the world's governments aren't doing enough to prepare us. Search "2012", it said, for "the truth" (the "truth" turned out to be over 1,000 real websites and 175 real books obsessed with 2012 as the end of time).
Then, there was a fake website – the "Institute for Human Continuity" – which consisted of a screen stating that for 25 years they'd been assessing threats to the continuation of mankind,

The new Adult Swim In A Box is an embarrassment of riches - six boxed sets for six different shows and a bonus disc featuring five unreleased pilots -- more than 20 hours on 12 DVDs. I was especially happy to get season two of Sealab 2021, which I have never been able to catch regularly, and season one of Metalocalypse, which I have always enjoyed.
Getting season two of Robot Chicken, volume one of Moral Orel, volume two of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and volume three of Space Ghost Coast to Coast just seemed like a bonus. Well worth the suggested retail price of $69.98 for Adult Swim fans who haven't already purchased any of the included sets.
The pilots are a mixed bag, but mostly good. The Best of Totally for Teens is a live action parody of a moralistic teen variety show hosted by thirtysomethings trying to be hip. It's a promising premise,
