The power of Michael Jackson lives on - and it's proving enough to conquer the mystical might of the Lord of the Rings.
The late singer's upcoming concert movie Michael Jackson's This Is It has overtaken Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - the first film in Peter Jackson's trilogy - in a league table of films with the highest advance ticket sales of all time.
MovieTickets.com said This Is It had knocked The Fellowship of the Ring of the 25th place in the chart.
The Jacko film documents the star's preparations for his planned 50-date concert series and will be released on October 28. Sony Pictures edited hundreds of hours of rehearsal footage to create the movie after paying $60million for the film rights.
A Michael Jackson single and album with the same title are also set to be released.

I love the Harry Potter series (books and movies), and I care about every teacher and child within Hogwarts and the Order of the Phoenix. I shed tears whenever J.K. Rowling killed off another one of the good guys. But when inevitably my attention constantly strays back to the Death Eaters and while this post centers on Lucius Malfoy, I'm rather entranced by them all: Lucius' wife Narcissa, her sister Bellatrix, Severus Snape, and Igor Karkaroff. They have the best costumes, the nastiest lines, and some of the finest special effects. (The way they operate in black smoke makes even broomsticks seem dull.)
But my favorite Death Eater remains Lucius Malfoy. Chris Columbus' installments have been harshly dismissed by cinephiles, but I think it's time to back down from the cries of "Alfonso Cuaron saved the series!", because Columbus accomplished a very weighty task: He set the stage. Every »

The good folks over at Empire [1] managed to score some new stills last week from the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, which is being directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter 2). As you can see in the pictures, they're really going all out with the costume design courtesy of Lindy Hemming (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Dark Knight, Casino Royale). Most of the pics feature Sam Worthington as Perseus, but we've also got our first look at Liam Neeson as Zeus thanks to an on-set snapshot from Entertainment Weekly [2]. Now that's what I call armor! What do you say, is this shaping up to be the epic blockbuster that you were expecting? Clash of the Titans hits theatres on March 26th, 2010. Another teaser trailer for "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" has been making its rounds. This promo video comes from the now-available "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" DVD. Although the second half is dominated by footage from the first teaser, the first half offers more never-before-seen footage.
Instead of focusing only on Logan Lerman's Percy Jackson and his adventure, this new sneak peek gives out first look at other characters. Rosario Dawson's Persephone, Steve Coogan's Hades, Sean Bean's Zeus and Pierce Brosnan's Chiron are among those unraveled in the teaser.
Adapted from Rick Riordan's first novel in the "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" series, "The Lightning Thief" centers its story on 12-year-old Percy. Discovering that he is the half-human son of the god of the sea Poseidon, he learns that the legendary beings of Greek mythology still exist in Mount Olympus which is located on the »

Nobody likes recasting roles. It confuses continuity, befuddles audiences and sometimes upsets the original actors. But there are times when such a shake-up in performers is both necessary... and even an improvement.
Take, for example, today's news that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over for Rachelle Lefevre in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the third installment in the bloodsucking 'tween-friendly franchise. While it's still too early to call the casting an upgrade over Lefevre, it's certainly not as bad of a replacement as it could be. If nothing else, Howard is in good company -- plenty of Hollywood-folk have been in her shoes before, and many of them proved successful in their reinterpreted roles.
Don't believe me? This stroll down memory lane of five re-cast roles should be proof enough that Howard's upcoming gig might work out for the best.

On the set of his new film Chris Columbus, director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, gave an interview to The Province about working with Rupert Grint and his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson while shooting the first two Harry Potter films. He talks about the difficulties of working with the young and inexperienced actors, and about watching them in the subsequent films. You can read the entire interview here. Harry Potter, you lucky dog.
Welcome to our newest Screen Rant feature, where we let you know who and/or what in pop culture we’ve been Totally crushing on lately!
For our inaugural post, I would like to let you know why I’m totally crushing on actress Bonnie Wright, who recently turned in one heck of a grown and sexy performance as Harry Potter’s love interest, Ginny Weasley, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
And before you cynics out there start crying foul: This crush is strictly on the PG side of the fence. Check out why I’m totally crushing on Bonnie Wright:

[This article is part 2 of a 4-part series. You can also read part 1.] Another year, another Harry Potter film directed by Chris Columbus. My hopes were a bit higher going into this one. With one massively successful Potter film under his belt, would Columbus better refine his craft to deliver us a more compelling sequel? Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) This time around, our adventurers find themselves entangled with the mystery of the chamber of secrets, a hidden area of the school housing a secret that threatens to destroy all the “mudbloods” (those who aren’t descended purely from wizards) at Hogwarts. When compared with the Sorcerer’s Stone, this film feels a lot less like it’s trying to say “Wow, look around at how cool everything is!” The world has already been established, and Columbus leans a little bit more on his existing creation, leaving room for a little ... »

Photo: Warner Bros. Ranking the First Six Harry Potter Films I ranked the Potter films back in July 2007 following the release of Order of the Phoenix, and at that time Goblet of Fire came out on top. However, a new installment has graced our big screens which demands a second look and after watching all five movies in an effort to put together the five Harry Potter quizzes that were featured last week (if you missed those click here) I can guarantee a shake-up. Here's how my rankings broke down last time around: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets The list hasn't changed dramatically, but there is a new #1. So let's get started and see how things shape up... Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets »
