Italian movie star Monica Bellucci and her actor husband Vincent Cassel are taking a break from films to care for their first child, Deva, who was born in Rome on Sunday. The Passion Of The Christ star, 35, met Cassel, 37, on the set of the 1996 French film L'Appartement and has since played opposite him in controversial movie Irreversible, action film The Brotherhood Of The Wolf and romantic drama Agents secrets - but they're glad to step away from the limelight to concentrate on their daughter, whose name is of Sanskrit origin and means divine. Bellucci's agent, Laurent Gregoire, said, "Everybody's doing well."

The critically praised Irreversible, often described as part of the current wave of French "shock cinema," is facing the possibility of being shut down in Australia following protests by family- and religious-activist groups, who object to a nine-minute rape scene. The Australian Associated Press quoted the Rev. Fred Nile, founder of the Christian Democratic Party, as saying: "The high impact of the violence in this film was so great that large numbers of people walked out during screenings, despite being warned of the content in advance." But Dean O'Flaherty, acquisition manager for Accent Film Entertainment, which is distributing the film in Australia told AAP: "It is not just the film we are in the position of defending, and this is not just about banning one film, this is about an attack on freedom of speech and freedom of artistic expression."

Italian screen siren Monica Bellucci is pregnant with her first child. The stunning actress, 39, who plays Mary Magdalene in Mel Gibson's controversial film The Passion Of The Christ, and her French actor husband Vincent Cassel, 37, are expecting their first child this autumn. Bellucci and Cassel reportedly had marital problems in 2002 and allegedly split after starring in another controversial movie Irreversible, which depicted graphic rape scenes. The couple married in 1999. Cassel is due to begin filming Ocean's Twelve next month.
