The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild has revealed this year’s recipients of its Lifetime Achievement Awards. Oscar- and Emmy-winning make-up artist Kevin Haney and Emmy-nominated longtime hair stylist Ora T. Green will be honored February 18 during the Muahs Awards at the Beverly Hilton.
“We are honored to recognize Kevin Haney and Ora T. Green for their unprecedented contributions to the artistry of make-up and hair styling,” said Julie Socash, president of Muahs (IATSE Local 706). “Over their legendary careers, their work has been captured on the most memorable, whimsical, creative and celebrated characters of film and television.”
Whether it’s the baby’s mustache on Addams Family Values or Martin Short’s Jiminy Glick in Primetime Glick, Haney’s characters always have a surprise of quirkiness in his creations. Haney began his career as a lab assistant to the legendary Dick Smith on the 1980 feature Altered States, going...

Martin Short is represented by two of the whopping 17 Emmy nominations for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” He is one of the nominated producers in the Best Comedy Series race, but his Best Comedy Actor bid is even more enticing. That’s because despite an impressive career in television, Short has never won an Emmy for acting. Perhaps his performance as flamboyant theater director and newly minted true-crime podcaster, Oliver Putnam, will finally earn this funnyman a statue to honor his work as a performer.
With the addition of two bids this year, Short has amassed an impressive 14 Emmy nominations, winning twice. He first entered the Emmy race in 1983 where he earned five writing nominations for “Sctv Network 90,” winning one of them. He won again in the Best Variety Special category for hosting “A Tribute to Mel Brooks” in 2014. He would pick up a pair of nominations...

Returning to the Emmys as an acting nominee for the first time in 10 years, Martin Short is back in (pun intended) dramatic fashion despite being known as a comedy legend. Short’s nomination for Drama Guest Actor is his first solo nod since he was up for Drama Supporting Actor for his work in “Damages” in 2010. He appears only twice in his stirring turn as a sexual predator director in “The Morning Show,” the first of which is in the nominated episode “Chaos Is the New Cocaine.”
Recently ousted as the longtime and beloved host of the titular morning talk show, Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) meets with friend Dick Lundy (played by Short) to discuss their shared woes as men taken down by the #MeToo movement. In just this one scene of his nominated episode, Short shows the layers of Lundy’s dark past and inhumanity as he unveils them to a shocked Kessler.

Zach Galifianakis knows audiences love his “Between Two Ferns” interviews just as much as he knows they’ve reached their limit. Three years ago, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he matter-of-factly described the hit Funny or Die web series as “one note,” admitted he didn’t know what else to do with it, and, after interviewing everyone from Brad Pitt to Barack Obama, said the show had “kind of run it’s course.” He later resurrected the bit to support Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign — much like he interviewed Obama to help Healthcare.org — but the latest incarnation of “Between Two Ferns” isn’t so philanthropic.
“Between Two Ferns: The Movie” knows it shouldn’t exist. Given Netflix money to become more celebrity-decorated Netflix content, writer, and director Scott Aukerman’s 82-minute feature is styled as a mockumentary, using a purposefully flimsy plot to stitch together a...

Michael McKean has been cast in the upcoming HBO Max pilot “Delilah,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Should the comedy project get ordered to series, McKean would be a series regular. He will star alongside previously announced series lead Jessica Rothe, who will play Delilah. McKean will play Tom Childs, Sr., a successful and charming car dealership owner grieving the recent death of his wife, who gave him three children, a happy home, and a comfortable life. McKean most recently earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the AMC series “Better Call Saul.” He also recently starred in the Amazon and BBC TV series “Good Omens,” based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. McKean is best known for his roles...

25. “Game of Thrones,” “The Winds of Winter”
This was a crucial season for “Game of Thrones” co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who, in their sixth year nurturing this beast into life, had to go off-book for the first time since author George R.R. Martin had been outstripped by the TV series. Although the pair pulled off an epic ninth episode — the signature stunner in seasons past — it was the finale that came together the best this year. The opening sequence alone is worth the price of admission because it certainly brings words like “cinematic” to mind. Set to a gorgeous score by Ramin Djawadi, the scene was deftly shepherded by director Miguel Sapochnik to create an almost sadistic amount of tension as we waited for Cersei’s green revenge to be unleashed. Once the catastrophic event occurred though, that was not the end of the dragon ride for us viewers.

As a fanatic of both Sctv (remember ingenious skits like Half Wits?) and the criminally underappreciated Primetime Glick (check out this wet your pants-worthy interview with Steve Martin), the mere thought of former cast member Martin Short hosting Saturday Night Live‘s holiday special made me as excited as a kid with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head.
While I patiently pondered a possible Ed Grimley sighting, the show presented a wholly unexpected (and heart-tugging) cold open: The New York Children’s Chorus performing “Silent Night,” as a tribute to the victims of Friday’s horrific school shooting in Connecticut.

Here, in part two, Short discusses his time on the Canadian sketch comedy show "Second City Television," as well as his one season on "Saturday Night Live."

How I Met Your Mother viewers enjoyed a guest appearance last season from Kids in the Hall actor Dave Foley when he portrayed a potential new employer for Marshall. The Foley character was so well received that that Vulture reports plans were in motion to ask the comedian to return in the recurring role. The good news for Foley was a sitcom pilot was picked up by CBS with him in the lead. The show, called How to Be a Gentleman, was bad news for Himym. Who did they go to next? Another Canadian comedian! Martin Short is on his way to season 7. Short is on a roll. He is also en route to season 7 of Showtime’s Weeds. (Get more Weeds news here, by the by.)

"How I Met Your Mother" has tapped Martin Short for a recurring role, according to New York Magazine's Vulture. The 61-year-old comedian will reportedly portray Marshall's new boss in the upcoming season, replacing Dave Foley.
Foley portrayed Mr. Bloom who interviewed Marshall (Jason Segel) for a job at an environmental law firm in season 6. The "Wrong Guy" actor, however, will not be able to return to season 7 since his sitcom pilot "How to Be a Gentleman" is picked up by CBS.
It is unclear whether Short will take over Foley's role or he will appear as an entirely new character. It will be the first extended comedy role Short has tackled for American TV since his appearance on Comedy Central's series "Primetime Glick".

Last season’s How I Met Your Mother finale had a role setup by Kids in the Hall/News Radio alum Dave Foley as Marshall’s potential new boss at an environmental law firm. Producers loved Foley’s character so much, in fact, that they had hoped to have him back next season (guess this means Marshall got the job). Unfortunately, CBS greenlit Foley’s comedy How to Be a Gentleman.
Vulture reports that the Himym producers have opted to deal with the loss of one major Canadian comedy talent by signing an (arguably) even bigger Canadian comic, from an equally beloved sketch-comedy show: Martin Short.
The site confirms that he will be on the series next fall in a recurring, multi-episode role as Marshall’s new boss. It’s the first extended comedy role Short has tackled for American TV since his 2001 to 2003 Comedy Central series Primetime Glick.
