The land of showbiz and the entertainment industry might seem like a glorious fantasy land on the outside but is just as crazier and destructive on the inside. When it comes to child actors, the landscape is even harder to navigate. And Quiet on Set, the recent shocking docuseries about the sets of Nickelodeon proves just how troubling the environment was.
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV
The docuseries also have numerous allegations against Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. After his close relationship with actress Amanda Bynes caught the attention of fans, many showed their support to the former child actress.

The treasure trove of young talent that emerged from The CW’s “Riverdale” is truly astonishing, and Camila Mendes is no exception. Her star power as both an actress in and executive producer of the immediately classic rom-com “Upgraded” takes the New York University alum to new heights.
While Mendes’ former “Riverdale” costars are flying high in their respective lanes, with Cole Sprouse stealing scenes even as a mute zombie in the Diablo Cody-penned “Lisa Frankenstein” to Charles Melton’s haunting, award-winning (yet Oscar-snubbed) performance in “May December,” Mendes has proven her own visionary chops in recent years. The star had a standout role in frothy high school dark comedy “Do Revenge” opposite Maya Hawke, and now holds her own alongside iconic actress Marisa Tomei in “Upgraded.”

Christina Aguilera has been a force in the music industry ever since she released her 1999 self-titled debut album, which included popular hits like "Genie in a Bottle" and "What a Girl Wants." She has since released 10 studio albums, including her latest, "Aguilera," which dropped on May 31, 2022, entirely in Spanish. But aside from Aguilera's impressive vocal skills and hit-maker career, we've also found ourselves enamored by the singer's love life.
Aguilera's been in a few major romances, including her current relationship with her fiancé, Matthew D. Rutler, who's also the father of her youngest child. The two met on the set of "Burlesque" in 2009 and have been together for over a decade. They've also taken their time with wedding plans - the duo got engaged in 2014. But a prolonged engagement is definitely not an indication of trouble in paradise for these two.

The “prince of England’s hearts” falls for the American president’s son (or is it the other way around?) in “Red, White & Royal Blue,” an effervescent gay rom-com that might be easily dismissed as a mere trifle, were it not for the still-historic novelty of its existence. Arriving less than a year after “Bros,” director Matthew López’s Amazon-backed, R-rated lark goes even further to normalize queer romance on-screen, taking a classic “chick flick” premise — the kind once reserved for Mandy Moore and Amanda Bynes movies, à la “Chasing Liberty” or “What a Girl Wants” — and recasting it with dudes.
Are gay men the target audience? No question, although “Red, White & Royal Blue” (adapted from the book by Casey McQuiston) reminded me more of that surprising subsection of manga known as “yaoi” — or “boys’ love” comics — marketed primarily to young female readers. The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Amanda Bynes has been placed on a 5150 hold for the second time this year.
The former child star, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, reportedly called the police on herself on Saturday morning and was then placed on a 5150 hold after medical staff regarded her as a “danger to herself and others.”
A 5150 hold is when a person is taken to a psychiatric facility for 72 hours for mental evaluation and treatment.

A source close to the situation confirmed the reports to NBC News. “She hasn’t been in contact with her family for quite some time,” they said of the 36-year-old former actress, whose films include 2003’s “What a Girl Wants” and 2006’s “She’s the Man.”
On March 22, 2022, a Ventura County judge ended Bynes’ nearly nine-year conservatorship, which was managed by her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes. Unlike Britney Spears’ bitter battle with her father to control her own affairs, Bynes’ parents approved of the legal decision.

It’s hard to believe that Christina Aguilera has been in the business since she was a child. The Mickey Mouse Club alum’s style and sound have become iconic, but the version of Aguilera fans see today is not who she was introduced as. Fans first met the “Dirrty” singer when she had a squeaky clean girl next door image, which she says she practically hated. But Aguilera says because she was so new to the music industry, she had to play it safe.

Twenty years ago, tween-girl cinema thrived. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Bynes kicked off the junior rom-com eras -- bringing their Disney and Nickelodeon fans along for the ride. Big-screen coming-of-age stories, family sagas, and whimsical made-for-television movies defined youth culture in 2003. Pop music became more accessible to children. Bright colors and Y2K fashion arrived in full force. Kids were paying attention to the media and products advertised to them.
As a person who turned nine in '03, I vividly remember this era of family films. They were hopeful, playful, and rife with young characters seeking adventures. I'll never forget when my sister and I saw our first movies on DVD instead of VHS: "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "What a Girl Wants." For millennial fans, Hilary Duff's Italian excursion has been on repeat as a literal soundtrack of our lives. Amanda Bynes' British battle of the debutantes sharpened our rebellious side.

The Sanderson Sisters are back! After 29 years, Hocus Pocus 2 is now on Disney+. At the time of the original film’s release, a sequel probably seemed like a total long shot. Critics panned Hocus Pocus, and box office numbers weren’t exactly spectacular either; it’s believed that the film may have lost about 16.5 million in its original theatrical run. Still, Disney continued to air the film annually on the Disney Channel and Freeform (formerly ABC Family), and a generation of kids was practically raised on the spooky season staple.
In October 2018, the 25th anniversary of the film, the first week of Hocus Pocus viewings on Freeform averaged 8.2 million viewers. The film likely became a cult hit due to its tone, which is a bit more adult than the typical live-action Disney fare, and the campy performances of the film’s villains, the Sanderson Sisters, portrayed by Bette Midler,...

You ever notice how HBO’s releases tend to do the heavy lifting in HBO Max’s content library? That makes plenty of sense given that HBO has a track record of producing hits well before the streaming era even began. Well, a similar concept is now playing out over on Hulu. Like many monthly releases before it, Hulu’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by a whole bunch of FX TV shows.
The initiative once known as “FX on Hulu” is no more but that’s not stopping the cable network-turned quality TV brand from churning out some intriguing titles for the streaming world this month. It all starts early on with season 2 of the delightful comedy Reservation Dogs on Aug. 3. That is followed up by the docuseries Children of the Underground on Aug. 13, Little Demon on Aug. 26, and The Patient of Aug. 30. The most interesting of the bunch,...

A judge is expected to terminate Amanda Bynes’ conservatorship of nearly nine years after tentatively ruling on Monday that the former child star, now 35, no longer needs someone else to manage her personal and business affairs.
“The court determines that the conservatorship is no longer required and that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship of the person no longer exist,” Judge Roger L. Lund of Ventura County Superior Court wrote Monday in the tentative ruling, obtained by TheWrap.
Bynes filed last month to end the conservatorship, which was put in place after exhibiting erratic behavior in 2013 such as setting a driveway on fire. Her mother Lynn has been her conservator since October 2014 and is fully in support of ending the arrangement, according to Tamar Arminak, an attorney for her parents.
Bynes’ representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap.

What this girl wants is for people to understand why she lights her Instas the way she does. Amanda Bynes has stared in some of Hollywood's hottest films, including Easy A, Hairspray and What A Girl Wants, but on March 13, the 35-year-old actress took to Instagram to reveal one particularly harsh note she once got from a director. "The reason I don't usually look great in paparazzi pictures is because I'm squinting in the sun," she explained in the caption of a selfie video. "The videos and pictures I post are in a flattering light, or in the shade outside, without the sun blasting on my face." She continued, "I once did a movie where the director told me...

Amanda Bynes is aiming to end her conservatorship after nearly nine years. Bynes’s mother, Lynn Organ, was granted temporary conservatorship in 2013 after the actor allegedly set a driveway on fire and was hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold. Organ then gained full conservatorship in 2014.
Variety confirms that Bynes filed a petition on Feb. 23 to end her conservatorship. The actor also filed a capacity declaration on Feb. 22, as California requires all conservatees to provide updated information on their mental state from their physician or other medical practitioner. A hearing is set for March 22 in Oxnard, Calif.
Organ’s lawyer, Tamar Arminak, told Variety that Organ supports the termination, and she expects the conservatorship will come to an end on or around the upcoming court date.

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. Film and TV producer Alison Greenspan died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 27 at the age of 48 after a long battle with cancer. Greenspan was surrounded by family, her husband, Jason Michaels, said.
For the past several years, Greenspan was a partner at Doug Robinson’s Sony Pictures Television-based Doug Robinson Productions, where she developed and served as an executive producer on the praised drama series, For Life, which aired on ABC for two seasons. She continued to work up until her death.

Rapper Lil Yachty is developing an action heist comedy based on Uno — yes, the card game — with Mattel Films.
Marcy Kelly wrote the screenplay for the movie, set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Though the cast has not been announced, Lil Yachty is being eyed for the lead role.
“I’m so excited to be part of this film with Mattel,” said Lil Yachty, a musician best known for the songs “Broccoli” and “iSpy.” “I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”
Uno was created in a Cincinnati barbershop in the ’70s as a way for families to spend time together. Five decades later, the game is available in more than 80 countries. Mattel has owned the game since 1992.

Exclusive: Young actress Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Ben and Kate) has been cast as one of the leads of CBS’ new Chuck Lorre-Marco Pennette multi-camera comedy series B Positive, headlined by Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford.
Jones has joined the series in a recasting; a different teen actress played the role in the James Burrows-directed B Positive pilot, the only 2020 broadcast pilot that was completed before the coronavirus-related production shutdown started in mid-March.
Created by Pennette, B Positive is about a therapist and newly divorced dad (Middleditch) who is faced with finding a kidney donor when he runs into a rough-around-the-edges woman from his past (Ashford) who volunteers her own. Together they form an unlikely bond and begin a journey that will change both of their lives.
Jones plays Maddie. Wise beyond her years, Maddie acts as a parent to her parents Drew (Middleditch) and Julia (Sara Rue), who are divorced.

August will be a quiet month on Prime Video UK leading up to the arrival of The Boys season 2 in the first week of September, but there are still a few things to look forward to before Billy Butcher and co. get back to ridding the world of megalomaniacal superheroes and their enablers.
Towards the end of August on Prime, Stargirl will be streaming for UK viewers. The DC Universe show has received strong reviews and will be back for a second season eventually. If you’re already a fan of DC’s Doom Patrol, it will make for a sweeter and more teen-friendly companion show.
Elsewhere, Keira Knightley’s Official Secrets is worth a watch, and there are some classic bangers being added to the Prime library too, including Gravity, The Wedding Singer, Valerian, Magic Mike Xxl and The Notebook – but it wouldn’t be Den of Geek if...
