'Star Trek' DVD: Prepare for a deleted-scene geek-out

15 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Good news, Trek fans. The wait is almost over. Just seven more days until J.J. Abrams' two-disc special edition of Star Trek comes to DVD. Naturally, that means the usual loving assortment of behind-the-scenes extras, including a commentary track from Abrams and his producing and writing teams. But the nuggets you'll want to check out first are the nine deleted scenes. If you can't wait, here's a breakdown of the lost goodies. Scene 1: Spock's birth. This was originally supposed to be the first shot in the movie. A touching and tender scene set on the Vulcan home planet »

Melissa George Cast on Lie to Me

9 November 2009 7:05 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

From Meredith's crazy friend on Grey's Anatomy to an semi-nuts acquaintance of Cal Lightman on Lie to Me.

Melissa George has nabbed a recurring role on the Fox drama. She'll play a character Entertainment Weekly describes as an "Anna Nicole Smith-type." That can't be a good sign for her.

The actress' will take on the role of Clara Martin, the sassy wife of an older, late billionaire.

After being found innocent in a high-profile murder case, she assumes control of her husband’s empire. Cal sees his fearless, manipulative, scheming side in her.

George will first appear in the season's 11th episode. The Australian beauty has also enjoyed extended stays on In Treatment and Alias. »

Bradley Cooper Enters the "Dark Fields"

8 November 2009 1:16 AM, PST | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

It was recently announced that Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Alias, Midnight Meat Train) will be headlining Relativity Media and Rogue Picture's thriller titled "Dark Fields". Cooper has replaced "Transformers" star Shia Labeouf according to reports. The movie is based on a book of the same name by author Alan Glynn. Neil Burger will be directing the picture from a script written by Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crown Affair). The premise is rather strange and I should be surprised that Bradley Cooper would headline a flick like this after moving to A-list status after the unexpected sucess of "The Hangover". Then again, he did star in "Midnight Meat Train" thus anything's possible. Read on to see what the movie is about.

J.J. Abrams Producing NBC Pilot Undercovers; May Direct

6 November 2009 12:43 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams is once again using his producing magic to get another TV series off the ground.  Yes, I know that “What About Brian” and “Six Degrees” were both cancelled, but he’s had some success with the last two projects he helped launch, “Lost” and “Fringe”.  Now he’s going to try to give NBC a dramatic hit they sorely need in their line-up with “Undercovers”.  Hit the jump for details.

THR reports that, schedule permitting, Abrams will make “Undercovers” the first TV pilot he has directed since 2004’s “Lost” opener.  According to THR, it was the success of that pilot which helped Abrams get the gigs for “Mission: Impossible III” and later “Star Trek”.  This means that no one took much notice of the episodes he directed of “Felicity” and “Alias”.  Good thing that “Lost” turned out to be one of the best television series of all-time. »

NBC wins bidding war for J.J. Abrams' new series

Abrams, who is also executive-producing the married spies project, hasn't directed a TV pilot since the blockbuster, two-hour opening salvo of Lost in 2004. About a year later, he segued into directing such films as Mission: Impossible III and the Star Trek reboot.

Abrams' other TV directing credits include a 2007 episode of The Office and an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2006...

J.J. Abrams takes on the Micronauts

6 November 2009 3:42 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost, Alias) is reported to be in discussions to produce a feature film based on the Micronauts toy franchise, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Micronauts toy line was created by Takara, later acquired by Tomy, and debuted in 1974 in Japan, where the line is known as Microman. Two years later the Mego Corporation introduced Micronauts to the Us, and released five series of toys through 1980.  Palisades Toys acquired the right to reproduce the toys in 2002, and the entire line was recently acquired by Hasbro.  Additionally, Marvel Comics, Devil's Due and Image Comics published Micronauts comic books, with several paperback books based on the property published by Byron Preiss Visual Publications.

At one point, they were so tightly integrated with the Marvel Universe that they crossed over with the X-Men and spun out a character that has crossed over with most of the rest of the line, »

Cooper wants 'A Team' role to punch people

6 November 2009 1:05 AM, PST | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Bradley Cooper has revealed that he only wanted to be in the upcoming A-Team film so that he could beat people up. The actor, who stars as Face in the action movie, said that he wanted to play a character who gives out beatings as opposed to receiving them, like his Alias character Will Tippin. Cooper is quoted by New York Magazine as saying: "In Alias, I wasn't the action guy. I got the s**t beat out of me, got tortured a lot, lost teeth, became a heroin addict, and left after the second season. I was never on the giving end of (more) »

Bradley Cooper Replaces Shia Labeouf in Dark Fields

5 November 2009 11:19 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The Hangover star Bradley Cooper is now set to replace Shia Labeouf in Neil Burger's (The Illusionist) upcoming thriller, Dark Fields. The film is an adaptation of the Alan Glynn book of the same name, and will feature a script by eclectic screenwriter, Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crowne Affair, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hairspray). The film is among many projects Cooper has signed on for post-Hangover (which is strange, because I still know the guy best as Sydney Bristow's best friend on Alias). Cooper will play a struggling writer who takes a top-secret pharmaceutical drug that makes him smarter. He finds success, but also comes to learn there are consequences, such as the phenomenon "trip-switching" which makes him perceive time moving similar to stop-motion. The official book description follows: Imagine a drug that makes your brain function with perfect efficiency, tapping into your most fundamental resources of intelligence and drive, releasing »

TV News: J.J. Abrams Wants to Direct NBC Pilot Undercovers, Cartoon Network Adds Live Action Shows, Comedy Central & The Onion Team Up for Pilot, HBO Developing Transgender Series

5 November 2009 9:46 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

We have a bevy of TV updates tonight: First up, it appears that J.J. Abrams is in talks to direct the pilot of his newest series on NBC, a spy drama entitled Undercovers. We previously reported the fact that he was developing the show, and that it seemed to be strikingly similar to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It's been a while since we've seen Abrams behind the directors chair for one of his own shows. He directed Lost's fantastic pilot, but hasn't yet done anything for Fringe. Alias's pilot was his first foray into directing action, and he's definitely honed that craft in his subsequent works, especially Mission: Impossible 3 and Star Trek. It's going to be interesting to see how he translates his recent big screen experience to television. Also, Cartoon Network has given the production green light to two live action series. J.J. Abrams Is Secretly Radiating Someone

5 November 2009 3:16 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

J.J. Abrams has a sci-fi project in development. No, not Star Trek 2. Or that other movie you're thinking of. Or the other. Yes, there's yet another sci-fi project with Abrams' name on it, and as usual, he's trying to keep it top secret. Pajiba got word of 500 Rads, a project that's budgeted at $25 million, being set up in Europe, and will probably be in the vein of Cloverfield and 28 Days Later. Which means it could be anything, really. Jeff Pinkner, a veteran writer from Abrams TV shows like Alias and Lost, started work on a script, but some other people are apparently jumping in to finish it up. Oh, and "rads" probably refers to "absorbed radiation dose," which Pajiba predicts might mean that there are zombie-type creatures lurking in this film somewhere. We can probably assume that Abrams isn't directing, given the zillion other projects he's got going on, »

J.J. Abrams’ Next Secret Project: 500 Rads

5 November 2009 10:34 AM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

In the summer of 2007, we started to hear whispers of a monster movie under the producer wing of “Lost” and “Alias” creator J.J. Abrams.  After months of speculation and cryptic viral marketing, Cloverfield stormed theaters and wreaked havoc on New York City.

Now there is a report from Pajiba about another secret project in development at Abrams’ Bad Robot label. It’s called 500 Rads. Well, for now. I wouldn’t put it past him to create this under a pseudonym and stage a big reveal leading up to its release.

A rad is a radiation absorption dose, which suggests a nuclear disaster movie of some sort. As we all know from watching too many movies, radiation brings mutants and sometimes… wait for it… zombies. The article likens the new Abrams concept to Cloverfield and 28 Days Later.

Abrams is making this on a relatively small budget ($25 million) and planning a European location, »

What Is J.J. Abrams’ ‘500 Rads?’

5 November 2009 9:04 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Remember when word of a mysterious project called Cloverfield first surfaced? Before we knew it, we were getting a movie about a mostly unseen giant monster causing chaos in New York. Well, it seems that J.J. Abrams might be bringing us something in the same top-secret vein with a project that is being referred to as 500 Rads.

The guys over at Pajiba (thanks to /Film for pointing us to this) have an inside source (who they’re keeping nameless, for good reason) that has given some details on 500 Rads, a project that Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, are apparently developing in secret.

So what’s it all about? Well, the little info we’ve got beyond the title tells us that it’s in the same vein as Cloverfield and 28 Days Later. Pajiba helpfully points out that a “rad” is an “absorbed radiation dose.” The guys over at »

J.J. Abrams’ Next Mystery Project: 500 Rads

5 November 2009 9:04 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Looks like the rumour mill is starting up again for another under the radar J.J. Abrams movie that is slowly being developed in secrecy -- just like Cloverfield was a couple of years ago. The folks over at Pajiba [1] recently got word from an inside source that Abrams and his Bad Robot production company are working on a new project called 500 Rads, and while they don't know exactly what it's about, they do have a few intriguing ideas. The term "rads" refers to an "absorbed radiation dose", and since the movie is being described as having similarities to both Cloverfield and 28 Days Later, they are speculating that it could be a zombie, viral plague or nuclear post-apocalyptic scenario of some sort. Lost, Alias and Fringe writer Jeff Pinkner has reportedly been the man working on the script thus far. The movie is budgeted at $25 million and will shoot somewhere in »

Bradley Cooper has always wanted to beat people up

Bradley Cooper wanted to be in 'The A-Team' so he could beat people up.

The actor said he was looking forward to playing the character Face in the action film, and getting to dish out beatings, rather than being on the receiving end, as he did as character Will Tippin in Us series 'Alias'.

He also said he "w****d himself out" to director Joe Carnahan to get his part as smooth talking Face in the film, about a team of rogue military mercenaries.

J.J. Abrams in Talks to Produce Micronauts

5 November 2009 | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that J.J. Abrams ( Star Trek , "Lost," "Alias") is in talks to produce a movie about the Japanese interchangeable toys Micronauts, which Hasbro just acquired. First released in Japan in 1974 (under the name Microman), the toys were imported to the U.S. by the Mego Corporation in 1976. The line consisted of 3.75-inch tall toys which used a universal, five millimeter inter-connective design. Mego cancelled the Micronauts line in 1980. In 2002, Palisades Toys bought the rights to reproduce Micronauts. The Micronauts comic books were published by Marvel Comics, Image Comics, and Devil's Due Publishing. Their first comic appearance was in "Micronauts #1" (Marvel, Jan. 1979) with characterizations created by Bill... »

J.J. Says No No To Directing Mission: Impossible 4

29 October 2009 2:20 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

After making a name for himself in the TV department with shows like Alias and Lost, J.J. Abrams literally exploded onto the blockbuster scene with Mission: Impossible III in 2006. Abrams is very well aware of the industry.s keenness towards building franchises, but when it comes to M:i 4, he's confident they can do it with him just as a producer. In an interview with MTV, Abrams explains, .My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie." As pointed out by MTV, Abrams taking a pass on directorial duties could be good for M:i fans. With the Star Trek franchise already on his plate, M:i 4 would likely take a backseat, and it would be quite sometime before we.d see the film. As a producer, Abrams has high hopes about getting the flick up and running in the near future: .My hope ... »

Abrams Confirms He’s Not Directing Mission Impossible 4

If you’re one of those people hoping that J.J. Abrams would step up behind the camera for “Mission Impossible 4″ after helming the last entry in the franchise, you can stop holding your breath now, because it ain’t gonna happen. Abrams says as much to MTV, pretty much confirming that with everything he has going on at the moment, directing “MI4″ is probably not a viable option. In fact, he won’t even be writing the script. That duty is going to former “Alias” guys Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. Abrams, of course, was the mastermind behind “Alias”. As to those rumors that the new “Mission Impossible” would be some kind of reboot or introduce a new, younger agent that will take over the franchise, Abrams said this: “I don’t want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it’s a story that will feel »

J.J. Abrams Directing 'M:i 4'? Improbable

28 October 2009 11:43 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

J.J. Abrams tells MTV he's probably not going to direct the next Mission: Impossible movie, currently being written by Josh Applebaum and André Nemec. We previously learned that J.J. would produce, along with Tom Cruise, but the Star Trek director and Lost, Alias, Felicity, and Fringe co-creator says he probably won't be available to perform the same duties he did for M:i 3.

"I'm producing with Tom," he said recently. "My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie." Other things almost certainly include the next Star Trek, which might make Abrams the first director-producer in recent memory to have concurrent blockbuster franchises on TV and in theaters. While M:i 4 would also likely make a sizable amount of money, Cruise can't play action hero forever. Trek gives him some flexibility there that Mission: Impossible does not.

He's nevertheless still very involved with the project: "I »

A J.J. Abrams' Superman Movie?

26 October 2009 9:15 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

After helping to resurrect the Star Trek franchise, J.J. Abrams would seem the perfect choice to reinvigorate the Man of Steel. In fact, seven years ago, the Alias creator wrote several drafts for a potential Superman movie.

So is there any chance Abrams' will be returning to it?

"No one has talked to me about it," Abrams told MTV News. "Obviously, I’m sure Warner Brothers has a plan for what they want to do."

With production on Green Lantern set to begin next year, there has been talk of a series of films featuring DC Comics properties, culminating in a Justice League movie. Along with Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash, Superman would be one of the characters given the big screen treatment.

The Man of Steel, of course, has already starred in a number of films, but the most recent, 2006’s Superman Returns, was not the hit anticipated by Warner Brothers. »
