Favorite villain rises again on '24'

2 November 2009 9:17 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

There's a simple rule on "24": It doesn't matter how seriously wounded somebody seems, if you don't see a corpse, they're probably not dead. And even if you see a corpse, they still may not be dead.   So fans of "24" probably won't be even slightly surprised by Fox's Monday (Nov. 2) announcement that Gregory Itzin has signed on for a multiepisode arc returning to the series as former President Charles Logan.   Itzin was nominated for an Emmy for his work as Logan, who initially seemed like a spineless puppet, but was later revealed as an orchestrator of a... »

First Trailer for the New Season of 24

28 October 2009 7:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I don’t watch “24″ anymore but I assume if you saw the previous seven seasons then you’ll want to see this new trailer because it feature Kiefer Sutherland in his Emmy-winning performance as Jack Bauer, a man who shouts at things and tortures people from time to time under the ticking-clock scenario that never happens in the real world.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but how many seasons have started off with Jack being out of the game but the world needs his help and he’s the only man who can both shout and torture and that’s a lethal combo for terrorists. But fans of the have already heard these kinds of points from detractors and watch the show anyone.  In my experience viewers of “24″ fall into one of two categories: People who genuinely find the show thrilling and action-packed; and people who find it laughably terrible. »

Watch: Fox teases Day Eight of '24'

28 October 2009 5:32 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Did you realize that we were fewer than three months from the premiere of Day Eight of Fox's "24"? Compared to the year-and-a-half between seasons six and seven, this hiatus has been a breeze, right?   Fox has released the first teaser for the new season, a clip that will play during the World Series game on Wednesday (Oct. 28) night.   At 45 seconds, the clip is brief and for people who either attended Comic-Con or got their hands on the teaser footage from the event, much of it is familiar.    Actually, for fans of "24" much of it... »

24 Director to Helm Motorcade Starring Ryan Reynolds

7 October 2009 11:25 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Dreamworks has tapped 24 co-executive producer Jon Cassar to helm Motorcade, with Ryan Reynolds in talks to star. You might recall hearing about Motorcade previously, as it is a hot action film project which has been fighting its way to the big screen over the last year since appearing on the 2008 Black List (a list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood). Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman was originally set to bring the project to the big screen, but moved on to Atlantis Rising. Most recently, Motorcade was at the top of a short list of potential projects that Tom Cruise was considering for his next film. Cruise eventually chose Wichita instead. Cassar has helmed 59 episodes of the popular Fox action television series 24. From my experience watching the show, it appears that Cassar can competently shoot action, but brings no style or flare to the storytelling. ... »

DVD Playhouse—July 2009

By

Allen Gardner

Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Spike Lee’s groundbreaking fable about race relations in an ethnically mixed Brooklyn neighborhood during a sweltering New York summer remains as potent, timely and prescient as it was in 1989. Lee is among the cast, which also includes John Turturro, Danny Aiello, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Rosie Perez (to name a few), that provide the tableaux-like framework for this stunning work. Criminally ignored by Oscar (it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, but did garner nods for Supporting Actor Danny Aiello and Lee’s screenplay), it endures as a timeless classic. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Lee, Ernest Dickerson, Wynn Thomas, Joie Lee; Documentary; Deleted and extended scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.

Sutherland Had 'No Passion' With Roberts

28 May 2009 9:01 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Kiefer Sutherland's romance with ex-fiancee Julia Roberts broke down after their sex life vanished.

Roberts, who once branded the 24 actor "young and silly" for proposing to her, called off the couple's wedding just days before they were due to exchange vows in 1991.

And Sutherland admits that although he felt a strong connection with the Pretty Woman star, their relationship collapsed when the passion burned out.

He tells Elle UK, "Well, at the time, I wanted to raise horses on a farm in Montana, and she was the number one actress on the planet. That didn't create a specific rift but there was a gulf in what we actually wanted.

"There was a huge connection between us but... it was more like friends than the passionate relationship that she or I would have wanted. She saw that; I did not." »

28 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Freddie Prinze Jr. is to make an explosive screen comeback after five years in the Hollywood wilderness - he has landed a role in hit TV series 24.

The actor, who is expecting his first baby with wife Sarah Michelle Gellar this autumn, has been absent from movies since 2004's Scooby Doo sequel.

He has scored small roles in television shows, including Boston Legal, and worked behind the scenes for World Wrestling Entertainment before quitting that job earlier this year.

Now the star is preparing for his return to the public eye, playing Counter Terrorist Unit field ops chief Davis Cole, a Marine who idolises Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer in the hit TV drama.

Prinze Jr. is the latest in a line of stars to sign up for the show's upcoming eighth season, joining Slumdog Millionaire actor Anil Kapoor, Law & Order's John Boyd, and Broadway favourite Jennifer Westfeldt. »

Shields: 'Sutherland Situation Has Blown Out Of Control'

14 May 2009 2:55 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brooke Shields has blasted the media for the intense press coverage of Kiefer Sutherland's clash with fashion designer Jack McCollough, insisting the whole incident has spiralled out of control.

Sutherland has been charged with third-degree assault after allegedly head-butting the Proenza Schouler designer at a Met Costume Institute Gala afterparty in New York on 5 May.

The 24 actor claims he was protecting longtime pal Shields' honour when the bust-up occurred, reportedly leaving McCollough with a broken nose.

A comment purportedly issued by Shields' representative surfaced immediately after the news hit the headlines, suggesting it was Sutherland who instigated the violent argument.

The statement read: "Nothing happened to her. Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did."

It later emerged the comments were bogus and did not come from Shields' camp - with the actress instead coming to Sutherland's defence.

A new statement, released on Monday, read, "(Shields) was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned... Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company."

The bizarre situation sparked a media furore, and Shields is disappointed at the "unfortunate" turn of events.

She says, "I'm never shocked anymore about anything that happens or anything in the press, it's just the access that the press has, the fact that it blows out and affects all of our lives, it's unfortunate, really unfortunate."

Sutherland, who is currently under a probation order in Los Angeles relating to a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI), faces a $1,000 (£660) fee and up to a year in jail if convicted of the third-degree assault charge.

He is due to be arraigned on 22 June at Manhattan Criminal Court. »

Sutherland Makes Red Carpet Return After Alleged Assault

13 May 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Kiefer Sutherland returned to the red carpet in Los Angeles on Tuesday to make his first major appearance since allegedly assaulting fashion designer [Jack McCollough] in New York last week.

Sutherland stands accused of third-degree assault after reportedly head-butting Proenza Schouler designer McCollough at a Met Costume Institute Gala afterparty on 5 May.

He turned himself over to New York police last Thursday and is due to be arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court on 22 June.

But the 24 star is refusing to let his legal woes interfere with his red carpet duties, stepping out at the Waldorf Theatre in L.A. on Tuesday to promote the DVD release of hit TV series' seventh season.

And Sutherland insists he is coping well with the intense media scrutiny following the Big Apple incident, after seeing how his father, actor Donald Sutherland, handled fame during his youth.

He tells Usmagazine.com., "I've seen that with my dad, and I think (with) a lot of things, I was really lucky (to avoid the media attention). I was lucky enough when I started that I knew what was coming. I really love to work, and I can't tell you how grateful for everything it has done for me. You know it's coming down the pipe and you accept it... Just focus on the work and your family and friends."

Sutherland claims he was protecting his longtime friend actress Brooke Shields' honour when he allegedly clashed with McCollough, who claims he was left with a broken nose.

The actor is currently on probation following his 2007 conviction for driving under the influence, and faces a $1,000 (£660) fine and up to a year in jail if convicted of the assault charge. »

24 Co-Star Defends Sutherland

13 May 2009 5:05 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Kiefer Sutherland's 24 co-star Carlos Bernard has leaped to his pal's defense following allegations he assaulted a fashion designer at a New York party.

Sutherland is charged with third-degree assault after allegedly headbutting Proenza Schouler co-founder Jack McCollough at a Met Costume Institute Gala afterparty earlier this month.

Bernard, who plays government agent Tony Almeida in the hit drama series, has been friends with Sutherland since they began working together in 2001.

And the 36-year-old star can't believe his friend would commit such a violent act - because the behaviour seems so out of character for Sutherland.

He says, "Kiefer is one of my best friends, and he's a great guy. I've been around the world with him in bars and social situations, and I've never seen anything close to this happening, He always bends over backwards to be courteous with people and to be generous with his time."

Sutherland, who is currently under a probation order in Los Angeles relating to a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence, faces a $1,000 (£660) fee and up to a year in jail if convicted of the third-degree assault charge.

His arraignment is scheduled for 22 June at Manhattan Criminal Court. »

Shields Leaps To Sutherland's Defence

11 May 2009 12:25 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brooke Shields is backing Kiefer Sutherland against allegations he instigated a violent argument with fashion designer Jack McCollough at a New York party.

The 24 star stands accused of third-degree assault after allegedly headbutting Proenza Schouler designer McCollough at a Met Costume Institute Gala afterparty on the night of 05 May.

McCollough accused Sutherland of leaving him with a broken nose after the altercation, in which the actor reportedly asked him to apologise for bumping into long-time friend Shields.

A spokesperson for Shields insisted last week (begs04May09) the actress was baffled by the incident: "Nothing happened to her. Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did."

But Shields is now defending Sutherland, insisting the earlier comments "are neither true nor authorised", reports TMZ.com.

A new statement issued on Shields' behalf on Monday reads: "(Shields) was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned... Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company."

Meanwhile Sutherland's attorney Michael Miller has issued a statement in the actor's defence: "We are troubled by the untruthful and self-serving information circulating regarding Kiefer Sutherland and events of last Monday evening. We are confident, however, that the investigation being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD will confirm that Kiefer Sutherland was neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident."

Sutherland, who is currently under a probation order in Los Angeles relating to a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI), faces a $1,000 (£660) fee and up to a year in jail if convicted of the third-degree assault charge.

His arraignment is scheduled for 22 June at Manhattan Criminal Court. »
