Trivia:
The Blue Creek apartment building in Silent Hill is a reference to the film Blue Velvet (1986). "Blue", for the movie's title; and "Creek" as a synonym for "River", for the Deep River apartments seen in the film. The apartments in the game are very similar to the look and overall layout of the Deep River apartments in the David Lynch film.

i thought that the first silent hill game was really good, even though its story was really complicated! That game was totally scary! i decided to buy SH2 at christmas. having played through the game, all i can sayis that it is much much better than the first game! the story is miles better (more like a catastrophic love story than a horror)the graphics are hellish (PS2 though, the graphics on SH1 were great for the PSOne)but the one thing that it lacked was that feeling of fear that was present throughout the first one. well, the feeling was there but it wasn't as scary as in the other game. the hell world was no-where near as scary, where, instead of having rusty blood splattered walls like the first one, the walls were covered in white sheets(!?). Mind you, in the hell hotel at the end, there was a horrible feeling that was given off, more creepy than anything in the first game, but this only lasted a short time.
overall, its one of my fave games and if you liked the first game, you won't be dissapointed!!!
