At one stage Still Game was attracting over half of the available TV audience in Scotland.
Whenever any of the main characters are listening to radio or television, Ford Kiernan's voice can usually be heard as the voice over.
The ageing makeup and wigs the lead cast members sported, were so convincing that whenever they filmed on location amongst the general public, no one could tell their real ages. On more than one occasion, Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan were approached by women in their sixties and asked out for a date while dressed as Jack and Victor, while Paul Riley was offered help crossing a road whilst feigning Winston's limp.
Greg Hemphill had to wear brown contact lenses for the character of Victor McDade to make his eyes look darker as his own eye color - a rather vibrant pale blue - stood out far too much against the aging makeup.
On 13th July 2018 the BBC confirmed that they had commissioned a ninth series of the show for 2018 but that it would be the final series of the Scottish comedy. The show's creators Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill said that they felt the time was right to retire the show from TV.
