As they have grown up best friends Yong-ju (Lee Jae-joon), Gi-taek (Choi Jun-ha) and Gi-woong (Kwak Si-yang) have also drifted apart. Yong-ju and Gi-taek still hang out, but the former’s budding homosexuality and the latter’s class struggles have driven a wedge between them. Gi-woong, meanwhile, has been employed as muscle by the classroom ringleader, and is no longer on speaking terms with either of his old friends. This hasn’t stopped Yong-ju from developing feelings for Gi-woong, but when he reaches out in earnest it causes all three of them to reconsider their allegiances.
Of all the relationships portrayed in Night Flight (Ya-gan-bi-haeng), LeeSong Hee-il’s fourth feature film, the budding romance between Yong-ju and Gi-wong is perhaps the least interesting. Both are complex, compelling characters in their own right, but given just how much is going on in this Korean drama their early arguments over a stolen bike are almost incidental.

LeeSong Hee-il returns to Berlin a year after White Night (2012) with his fourth feature Night Flight. While his last film was a subdued but powerful work about lingering memories of homophobia in modern Seoul, his new film is his most ambitious yet. Retaining queer themes, Night Flight goes beyond the scope of his past works by weaving a wider tapestry of social motifs that touch on many of the issues facing youths and minorities in contemporary Korea. As the years pass between middle and high school, a trio of friends becomes separated over time. Yong-ju and Gi-taek remain close yet Yong-ju is a closeted homosexual and Gi-taek has fallen to the bottom of the food chain within the school's hierarchy. Meanwhile, Gi-woong, by virtue...

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer – Jordana Beatty, Heather Graham, Parris Mosteller
Super 8 - Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Kyle Chandler
Movie of the Week
Super 8
The Stars: Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Kyle Chandler
The Plot: After witnessing a mysterious train crash, a group of friends in the summer of 1979 begin noticing strange happenings going around in their small town, and begin to investigate into the creepy phenomenon.
The Buzz: The trailer for Super 8 sent shivers down my spine — good shivers. This film looks to be a beautifully crafted Spielbergian throwback. I’m pleased with the lack of A-list actors too. There’s been an air of mystery around this whole production, as J.J.Abrams and company did their best at keeping everything about this film on the hush-hush. I’ll be checking it out as soon as humanly possible...

Whether you are landed gentry, a common farmer, or a young lady with no parents or prospects, Miss Emma Woodhouse of Highbury will be sure to put you in your place-matrimonially or otherwise. Jane Austen's Emma plays on Book-It Repertory Theatre's stage at the Center House Theatre October 20- November 22.
Jane Austen's fourth novel is a sparkling comedy of 19th-century manners centering on the well-intentioned Emma and her sometimes indiscreet, often misapplied, and always entertaining efforts as matchmaker. Clever, intelligent, and spoiled, Emma takes it upon herself to arrange a suitable marriage for her poor friend Harriet. But despite her advantages, she is oblivious to the true nature of almost everyone around her-including herself-until at last she happily loses her own heart. Austen's deliciously droll descriptions, ironic observations, and generous happy endings are Book-It fan favorites.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens hit the grass carpet at the Teen Choice Awards yesterday afternoon, and they were in comfy clothes later in the evening to catch a flight to Vancouver. While Zac took home a surfboard at the star-studded show, Vanessa had to endure a rather awkward moment when Dane Cook made reference to her latest nude photo scandal on stage. She didn't seem to be sweating it as she accompanied Zac on the trip to Canada, where he'll get back to filming The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. Another of his movies, Me and Orson Welles, has a new trailer - check it out below. View 15 Photos › To see more of Zac and Vanessa plus Zac's trailer just read more. View 15 Photos ›...

The Big Gay Event of the day is the late afternoon panel on gays in comics:
"4:00-5:00 Tipping Point for Lgbt Portrayals in Comics— Lgbt issues have taken a central place in the cultural zeitgeist. How has this issue been illustrated in comics? This year, two lesbian characters—Batwoman and The Question—became co-leads of DC Comics' namesake title, Detective Comics. What is the long-term significance of this? Does it reflect greater acceptance of Lgbt characters in comics, or is this an isolated event? Have we reached a tipping point?
