  • Continuity: After Will unspools the tape Walter gave him, he grabs Walter by the lapels and slams him against the wall. The position of Will's hands changes repeatedly between shots.

  • Continuity: When the character is dying on the beach, the blood smear on his cheek changes noticeably between shots.

  • Continuity: At the end of the movie Ellie lays down the gun on the pier, in the next shot from the same angle, the gun is gone.

  • Revealing mistakes: Obvious stunt double (in close-up) when Will falls in the water.

  • Revealing mistakes: Obvious stunt double with a wig as Dormer is chasing Finch immediately prior to the log-chase sequence.

  • Factual errors: In the initial shots of the Beech 18 seaplane, when supposedly cruising to destination, the aircraft is clearly flying too low and has one notch of flaps down. This is not a normal cruise flight configuration.

  • Continuity: Photo of Walter that Will picks up from Walters house remains dry despite the fact that Will fell into the water when chasing across the logs. There are no signs of the fact that it got wet when it is next shown.

  • Crew or equipment visible: During the foggy chase, an orange extension cord is visible on the ground at Dormer's feet as he is running.

  • Continuity: After Will and Walter's conversation on the ferry, the officer who got shot in the leg earlier by Walter is shown walking normally at the police station. Later he's shown limping and using crutches.

  • Continuity: When Dormer is coming out of the water after falling in with the logs he climbs up on a dock area. The dock area is already wet and has a path of wetness leading to the ramp.

  • Anachronisms: During the flashback, where it's shown how the two boys stalked their victim, the scenes are shown in the dark. Throughout the movie, we're told that it never gets dark at that time of the year in Alaska. The murder happened sufficiently recently that it would not be pitch black in these scenes.

  • Continuity: When Ellie Burr asks Dormer to sign the report and Dormer tells her to be sure of all of her facts, he walks out of shot having taken his glasses off. In the next brief shot of him passing by so we can see Ellie's reaction, his glasses are back on his face.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Ellie is giving her report to Dormer, after the shot changes to show Dormer, Ellie's face can be see on the left but her lips aren't moving when she is saying the word "paperwork".

  • Factual errors: When the police officers are waiting for the murderer to return to the cabin for the girl's backpack (Scene 8 on the DVD), they are talking about firearms. One of the Alaska cops says "Yeah that's nice, mine's all plastic save the barrel and firing pin - never rusts. What do you carry down in LA?" In the real world, the only part on his Glock that is plastic is the frame. The barrel, firing pin, trigger components, and SLIDE are all metal. Seeing how the Glock's frame (that's the big part on top) is 100% blued metal, it rusts just as easily as anything else.

  • Revealing mistakes: The closeup of the so-called blood stains clearly reveals by its transparency that it is red sugar water, and not real blood, which is a different color and is not translucent like fake blood.

  • Plot holes: After the first call by Finch to Dormer in his lodge room, Dormer should have at least dialed *69, last call return, to get the phone number from where Finch was calling. What is more, had Dormer had a message machine on recording the call by Finch, they would have had a recording of the killer's voice, which would have been admissible as evidence.

  • Plot holes: In spite of the fact that Finch saw Dormer kill his partner, during the 2nd call by Finch to Dormer, Dormer should have at least traced the call, especially since the call was made to a police station.

  • Plot holes: The tape recording by Finch of him and Dormer would not have been admissible as evidence in a court of law, thus Finch's 'wild card' would have been moot.

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Walter falls into the water though the bottom of the boat house at the end of the movie he falls about 1 foot before he hits the water. In the next scene when Detective Ellie is leaving the boat house the water is 5 or 6 feet below the bottom of the boat house.
