The heat is on and so is the temptation. After much anticipation, USA Network finally brought back the reality phenomenon known as Temptation Island this evening. Hosted by the one and only Mark L. Walberg, the juicy series brings four dating couples together on an island. Once they arrive, however, the couples will be tempted by more than a few sexy singles who are ready to mingle and find love. In tonight's premiere episode, the bachelors and bachelorettes introduced themselves to the four couples for the very first time. And unlike The Bachelor where each contestant gets a dramatic limo arrival and small talk, these folks have a short amount of time to make a first impression and drop a...

Pack up your swimsuits and pre-write your apology letters: Yep, we’re heading back to Temptation Island. The infamous Fox reality show, which took couples unsure about the future of their relationships and put them on an island filled with dozens of sexy singles, is back for an all-new season on USA Network — and look, original host Mark L. Wahlberg is back, too! (Hey, if Chris Harrison can host The Bachelor for nearly two decades, why can’t he?)

Temptation Island makes its revamped debut on USA Network tonight, and it's not quite the same Temptation Island you may remember from 2001. That much is clear just from watching the opening of the premiere, which couldn't go in a more different direction from the original premiere. Where the 2019 version begins with beautiful shots of a beach and loving couples embracing each other on the beach, followed by host Mark L. Walberg describing this as a "journey" these couples are about to embark on, the 2001 Fox version hits a whole lot harder. "I feel like I sold my soul to do something fantastic, which is come to this place," says a distraught man. "And now the fun is over,...

It would make sense if you tuned into Temptation Island and went, "that guy's like the new Chris Harrison!" It would make sense, but you'd be wrong. Mark L. Walberg is not only the host of USA Network's new Temptation Island revamp, but he was also the host of the original show, which premiered on Fox a whole year and two months before The Bachelor made its debut. Walberg and Harrison both have kind-sounding voices and are a comforting presence in a sea of thirsty singles (and thirsty not-so-singles), but Walberg's career has taken a different path in the years since the first attempt at Temptation Island. Most recently, he's been at the helm of Antiques Roadshow on...

Love Island, the smash hit British reality dating competition, is “on the verge” of cracking on into the United States and a number of other major markets – fresh from its latest finale scoring record breaking ratings for ITV2.

Trouble is once again brewing on Temptation Island: The controversial reality series — which aired on Fox from 2001-2003 — is eyeing a TV comeback, with USA Network in advanced negotiations to air the revival, our sister site Deadline reports.
In the original Fox version, couples agreed to live with singles of the opposite sex in order to test their relationships. The four male contestants shacked up with a dozen female models, while their female counterparts were placed in a separate section of the island along with 12 attractive men.

Exclusive: USA Network is in advanced negotiations for Temptation Island, a revival of the 2001 Fox reality series, I have learned.
Banijay Group CEO Marco Bassetti announced the upcoming U.S. reboot this morning during a keynote at the Reelscreen West 2018 confab without revealing a network. Reps for USA and Banijay declined comment.
The original Temptation Island, based on an European format, was hosted by Mark L. Walberg and ran on Fox for three seasons. It featured four couples who get separated when they arrive at an exotic island location, with the four guys living in one section with a dozen female models, and the four women residing in another section with a dozen attractive men.
The show courted controversy from the start, with one of the original couples removed from the show when the producers learned that the pair had children together. The first season was a breakout ratings juggernaut...

Temptation Island is returning to U.S. television. The controversial series aired on Fox from 2001-2003 and entailed couples agreeing to live with several singles of the opposite sex in order to test their relationships. No networks have been specifically announced.
Banijay Group CEO Marco Bassetti announced the revival during the Reelscreen West 2018 confab keynote in Santa Monica today. Earlier in March, it was announced a new 10-episode reboot of Wife Swap was going forward on Cmt.
Hosted by Mark L. Walberg, Temptation Island from the onset stirred up controversy, which Fox hoped would drive ratings. Four guy contestants lived in one section with a dozen female models, and the four female contestants lived in another section with a dozen attractive men. Of the initial couples in 2001, Ytossie Patterson and Taheed Watson were removed from the series when the producers learned that the pair had children together.

It seems Twitter is Passionate for Fox's The Passion!Sunday night's two-hour live show was a hit for many around the country and in the Twittersphere. The show stars Jencarlos Canela as Jesus, country star Trisha Yearwood as Mary, Chris Daughtry as Judas and Prince Royce as Peter. The Passion's story was shot throughout New Orleans and host Tyler Perry led hundreds in songs and prayers in the city's downtown. Although only a few hundred people were able to witness the show in New Orleans, millions online felt the power. Watching people worship on live TV in New Orleans right now is really cool.

Stay tuned.

In HitFix's new feature "Waxing Episodic," we reflect on an episode of television we'll never forget. On May 31, 2000, I watched the premiere of "Survivor." I was edgy. At that point, the "Survivor" audience was just me and 15.5 million of my fellow early adapters. The next week, the "Survivor" audience went to 18 million and then to 23.25 million. Before "Empire" made our minds boggle at the mere idea of a show actually gaining viewers each week, there was "Survivor," which started with a 6.1 rating among adults 18-49 and was at a 12.7 rating by its penultimate installment. [I actually missed that first finale, which averaged nearly 52 million viewers, because I was in the process of moving to Los Angeles. Nobody tell me who won!] Last week's 15th anniversary marked a good time to dust off my "Survivor" (or "Survivor: Borneo" or "Survivor: Pulau Tiga") DVDs and our frequent -- when we happen to have the time -- "Waxing Episodic" feature was a perfect time to reflect on how the game has changed and how it remains the same. I contemplated...

You've probably already heard about FX's You're the Worst: the racy rom-com about two assholes who get together after a wedding and find out that they actually like each other. Is this the beginning of TV's rom-com renaissance? The show's creator Stephen Falk isn't completely sure, but with a past in recapping reality shows like Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds, he's definitely a bona-fide expert in true romance. Before tonight's season finale, Vulture spoke with Falk about the power of will-they-won't-they, one-night stands, and how one goes from recapping Temptation Island to creating one.People really seem to like your show! It’s been gratifying and odd and fun. I have almost no complaints, which is strange because I always have complaints. It's funny because you have no complaints, but your show is based on everyone else’s complaints. But maybe the characters are so unlikable that they’re actually likable?...

Washington, Apr.5: Fox Network is reportedly in talks to shoot few pilot episodes of Couples Retreat, a new reality project that would put couples to the test.
The entertainment network's new reality show will be different from their earlier controversial reality show 'Temptation Island' which was trying to break couples whose relationship was not strong enough, Deadline reported.
The new reality show will help couples whose relationships were struggling using an unusual concept i.e. each one agrees to go on a fantasy weekend with the opposite-gender partner of a similarly matched couple.

Exclusive: Is Fox heading back to Temptation Island? I hear that the network is in talks for a pilot order to Couples Retreat, a new reality project that would put couples to the test. Unlike Fox’s controversial Temptation Island, which was trying to break couples whose relationship was not strong enough, Couples Retreat aims at helping couples whose relationships are struggling using an unconventional method: “each agree to go on a fantasy weekend with the opposite-gender partner of a similarly matched couple.” The provocative concept, which likely will draw swinging-couple references, is sure to raise eyebrows. The project, which is now casting, comes from Red Arrow-backed Kinetic Content, run by Chris Coelen, who previously worked on ABC’s Wife Swap. “I share a name with Mark Wahlberg and I look like Chris Harrison, so I’m lost in the shuffle of their success,” Mark L. Walberg likes to joke. Despite these notable handicaps, Walberg remains a recognizable TV face, having hosted public television’s Antiques Roadshow for the past ten years. What PBS subscribers may not remember is that Walberg was once Fox’s go-to host for reality shows. The veteran game-and-talk-show host brought us the infamous TV experiment Temptation Island (2001–03), on which couples were separated and tempted to cheat on one another; The Moment of Truth (2008), which allowed contestants to win money by confessing embarrassing secrets; and the final episode of Joe Millionaire (2003), when the “real” Evan Marriott was supposedly revealed. The following ad might as well be a Jerry Springer joint — because Fox has decided it’s too hot for TV.
Well, sort of. Though the clip features Scarlett shimmying out of a bathrobe and seductively sipping to a “bow-chicka-wow-wooow” bassline, that’s not what reportedly raised the network’s hackles. (Compared to the antics on, say, a GoDaddy Super Bowl spot or Fox’s own Temptation Island, ScarJo’s sultriness seems downright tame.) Instead, SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum tells USA Today that Fox declined to air this version of the commercial because of Johansson’s closing line: “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.

New York -- Fox reality chief Mike Darnell said Friday that he's exiting the network after an 18-year stay, ending a reign that – depending on one's point of view – has made TV more exciting or more squalid. And great for Fox.
In a puckishly worded announcement, the 50-year-old Darnell said that the end of his current contract in June presented him with a decision: "either stay (and basically admit to myself I was going to retire at Fox ... not a terrible choice) or leave and try something new."
"I've been in `reality' since before it was even called that," added the exec who was once called "the world's scariest programmer." But now, "with hundreds of channels and limitless ways to watch television, I've decided this was the perfect time to take advantage of the rapidly changing marketplace."
Darnell, who was named the network's president of alternative entertainment in 2007, joined Fox in 1994 as director of specials.

There's a reason why they call Mike Darnell the "dark prince" of reality TV. Darnell, who on Friday announced his exit as the president of alternative entertainment at Fox, is still best known for his in-your-face fare like Joe Millionaire, Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction, The Swan, When Animals Attack and Man vs. Beast.
Some of those shows, like Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire and Temptation Island, led to juicy TV scandals. (It's why the New York Times once billed him as TV's "point man for perversity.")
