The graphic novel Gunplay is in development at Fox21, the TV arm of Fox Broadcasting, as a possible television series. Based on the comic published by Platinum Studios, Gunplay is about a buffalo soldier of the 19th century U.S. army who is cursed to carry a pistol that he must use to kill a person once every day or else his body feels tremendous pain.
Developing the project is Glen Morgan, the writing partner of X-Files/Millennium/Space: Above & Beyond writer/producer James Wong. After Wong and Morgan carved out their names writing Fox sci-fi and supernatural dramas in the 1990s, they made the transition to feature films with the first Final Destination movie in 2000. They've also made The One, the third Final Destination, the remake of Willard and Black Christmas. Morgan was also an executive producer on NBC's recent failed reboot of Bionic Woman.

Dragonball Evolution Directed by: James Wong Written by: Ben Ramsey Starring: Justin Chatwin, Chow Yun-Fat, Emmy Rossum, Jamie Chung, James Marsters, Randall Duk Kim, Joon Park, Ernie Hudson Asian culture has had a massive influence on North America over the past decade and a half, to the point where nearly every popular children's animated series is now either being imported from Japan or created in the same art style, virtually every horror movie is required to have creepy children in it, and the majority of action movies made since The Matrix has tried to emulate the same slick martial arts choreography. Now the latest trend in Hollywood has producers trying to repackage some of the biggest Japanese animated series as live action films, and it seems only appropriate that Dragonball is one of the first to find its way to the big screen. Based on the manga by Akira Toriyama, »

Seen on: April 11, 2009
The players: Director: James Wong, Writer: Ben Ramsey, Cast: Justin Chatwin, Joon Park, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum
Facts of interest: Wong also directed "The One" and "Final Destination."
The plot: Goku must find the seven magical dragonballs before the ruthless villain Piccolo calls forth a badass demon who will destroy the world.
Our quick thoughts: James Wong’s “Dragonball Evolution” is certainly not the worst film I’ve seen so far this year, but it’s still a bad one. A very bad one, actually. I don’t really know much about the “Dragonball” franchise and I’ve never read the series or played any of the video games, but I like to think it doesn’t take an expert to realize this movie is pretty much a crappy big-screen adaptation. »

Milk (Universal) Sean Penn deservedly captured his second Best Actor Oscar (and Dustin Lance Black a statuette for his original screenplay) in director Gus Van Sant’s portrait of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to hold public office in the U.S. Alternately heartbreaking, infuriating and very funny, a film that both captures a bygone era and is still very timely. Fine support from Josh Brolin, Victor Garber, James Franco and Emile Hirsch. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Three featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.
Slumdog Millionaire (20th Century Fox) The Best Picture of 2008 is a kinetic, clever audience-pleaser about a determined lad (Dev Patel) from the slums of Mumbai, who has his chance at literal and financial redemption as a contestant on India’s version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Short version: Dragonball: Evolution is a badly written film with horrible dialogue, lackluster action and a sense of fun that’s nowhere to be found.
Screen Rant’s Ross Miller reviews Dragonball: Evolution
When you head to the theater to see a movie called Dragonball: Evolution, you obviously aren’t expecting Shakespeare. From the advertising, the whole thing gives off a feeling of light, campy, action-packed fun that you would hope would allow you to just sit back, relax and turn off your brain for 90 minutes or so.
Yeah, well, that’s why we have words like “hope” as a counterpoint to “guarantee.”
Dragonball: Evolution may very well be one of the worst films of the past 12 months or so - I am actually struggling to think of the last movie I thought was quite as bad as this one was. And it’s not one of those cases where »

A film I'm annoyed to announce that I've seen three times, 'The One', once positioned as a star vehicle for Jet Li riding on his initial success of 'Romeo Must Die' is a science-fiction action film devoid of both effective sci-fi ideas and effective action. With half-baked ideas (conjured up by co-screenwriters James Wong and Glen Morgan with Wong directing) The One is obviously trying to ride on the coattails of 'The Matrix' with a little 'Highlander' thrown in. Trying to establish a sci-fi universe so complex that no one will notice it doesn't make a damn bit of sense, clunky opening exposition lets us know that there are many parallel universes, each housing separate but parallel human »

I’ve been hearing about the sci-fi movie “Gemini” for a few years now, and given the premise, every now and then you’ll hear the name of an aging action star connected to the leading role, everyone from Harrison Ford to Sylvester Stallone to Bruce Willis. It looks like the film is now finally moving forward, with Touchstone Pictures in negotiations with “L.A. Confidential” director Curtis Hanson to take over the reigns of the picture. THR reports: David Benioff (”The Kite Runner”) wrote the script, about a brilliant, aging assassin trying to leave the game whose employers dispatch a clone of his younger self to take him out. The concept allows for some techno-wizardry whereby an older actor with a long career would be cast, and his younger likeness would be digitally grafted onto a stuntman’s body. A similar trick was employed with Jet Li in “The One, »

"La Confidential" director Curtis Hanson is in negotiations to helm the long-gestating action thriller "Gemini Man" for Touchstone Pictures. David Benioff (The Kite Runner) wrote the script, about a brilliant, aging assassin trying to leave the game whose employers dispatch a clone of his younger self to take him out. The concept allows for some techno-wizardry whereby an older actor with a long career would be cast, and his younger likeness would be digitally grafted onto a stuntman's body. A similar trick was employed with Jet Li in "The One," though not with the generational twist. Several writers worked on the script over the years, including Jonathan Hensleigh, who collaborated with Bruckheimer on "Con Air," "Armageddon" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds." »

Curtis Hanson, who won an Oscar for his L.A. Confidential screenplay, is in negotiations to direct Gemini Man, an action thriller that’s been stuck in the development pipeline for nearly a decade. Blockbuster king Jerry Bruheimer is producing for Touchstone Pictures. The flick follows a brilliant, aging assassin who trying to leave the game. He must fight his way out once his employers dispatch a clone of his younger self to take him out. David Benioff, who scripted the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine, wrote the screenplay. According to the trades, the concept allows for some techno-wizardry whereby an older actor with a long career would be cast, and his younger likeness would be digitally grafted onto a stuntman's body. One movie we haven't really heard from in a while is Dragonball Evolution, probably for good reason. But then again, the more I see of this, the more I wonder if I'm wrong in thinking that it looks so bad, and curious whether it indeed might just be a fun movie. Maybe it'll turn out better for people who aren't big fans of the original anime? Either way, today we've got a new French trailer for Dragonball Evolution courtesy of ComingSoon that shows a few new scenes and overall is just flashier than anything before. This trailer alone doesn't exactly push me in one way or another, but it is just cool to watch. Enjoy!
