Trivia:

The first sequel to The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) which had Matt Damon as Ripley. However, while that film took place in the 1950's, this film seems to take place in contemporary times (i.e. the 21st century), as one sees a microwave of modern design in the Trevanny home. Ripley should thus stand at the age of about seventy or eighty, but John Malkovich, who takes over the role from Matt Damon, stands at only 17 years older than Matt Damon.

Goofs:

Continuity: When Trevanny and Reeves first meet in the hotel, Trevanny's cigar changes orientation, between shots.

Good adaptation about famous character with extraordinary playing by Malkovich

The picture focuses on Tom Ripley(John Malkovich),a cold and cult assassin.At the beginning ,Ripley and his associate(Ray Winstone)are planning a swindle which goes wrong.After that he convinces a man(Dougray Scott)happily married(Lena Headley)to execute a crime to a mobster for a great amount of money ;but the happenings go out of control and the gangsters look for vengeance.

The film is an exciting thriller and superbly interpreted.In the picture there are drama,action,tension,intrigue and a little bit of violence when the murders happen.From the beginning till the end the suspense is continuous and for that reason is entertaining. Acting by John Malkovich is top notch, he's excellent as Ripley, a cruel and brutal murderer with exquisite manners.Dougray Scott as the ill fated and victim of his play makes a first rate interpretation.Ray Winstone plays correctly an avaricious and savage nasty. Fascinating music by the great Ennio Morricone. Glimmer and watchable cinematography by Alfio Contini who reflects stunningly the Italian palaces,theaters and interior scenarios. The film is based on Patricia Highsmith novel,whose Ripley personage has been well adapted in anteriors versions as ¨Blazing sun¨(Rene Clair with Alain Delon) and ¨The talented Mr.Ripley¨(Anthony Minghella with Matt Damon).The motion picture is rightly directed by Liliana Cavani. The flick will appeal to John Malkovich fans. Rating: interesting and well worth seeing.
