Q: I recently watched a new series from USA Network titled White Collar, and I was stunned by the gorgeousness of the lead character, Neal, played by the beautiful Matthew Bomer. I can't seem to find much info about him. Mind to fill in more? -- rcLoy, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A: Bomer is from Houston where his father was a Dallas Cowboy. He was a high school (and, later, acting school) classmate of Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace. He started on soaps, almost played Superman in the latest Superman movie, and co-starred on the TV show Tru Calling (with Eliza Dushku) and in the movie Flight Plan (with Jodie Foster), and also had a reoccurring role on Chuck.

It's only fitting that the first thing you see in Zombieland is a small American flag--just like the one in the opening of George Romero's Night Of The Living Dead, because it's a fun exploration of the entire Living Dead genre as a coming of age movie.
Zombieland plays like an alternate adventure taking place in the universe of Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead. Fast zombies are the order of the day and we learn via flashback that fat people were the first ones to go. The opening credits neatly encapsulate the end of society as the zombie virus spreads.
Nerdy, virginal "Columbus" (Jesse Eisenberg) stays alive through his anal retentive series of rules, such as "Cardio", so you can outrun sprinting zombies and "Avoid Bathrooms"--because the undead like to hide in there. His rule "Don't be a hero" is especially good--because every hero in a Romero »

“They sent it to my agent, and my agent kept asking me, ‘Will you read it?’ ” Woody Harrelson recalls. “And I kept saying, ‘Zombies, dude? Seriously, zombies?’ ”
That seems to be the general consensus among the cast of Zombieland (opening October 2 from Columbia), and really, who can blame them? The undead have become a little stale after their megaboost in popularity during the earlier half of this decade—but this latest horror/comedy offering from director Ruben Fleischer and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is just as cool a ride as anything in the amusement park where its climax takes place (see our review here). Harrelson’s co-star Jesse Eisenberg makes a case for it when he tells Fango, “It’s the most fun movie I’ve ever seen in my life.”

One of the things I love best about the internet is that people post movie-related lists and then other people get to comment on all the things the lists did wrong (or, sometimes, did right). Today, in anticipation of this week's Sorority Row, Moviefone posted a list of the ten sexiest scream queens. It's a fun list, and it's wise enough to go all the way back to Fay Wray (King Kong) and Janet Leigh (Psycho), and it includes two essentials: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Marilyn Burns (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It also includes Shannon Elizabeth, a dubious choice for films like Jack Frost, 13 Ghosts and Cursed (although I'm glad someone has thrown Cursed back into the ring; it's silly but it's also sexy, well-acted and very sharply directed by Wes Craven).
I like Adrienne Barbeau as a choice, too, even though she's really only a "scream queen" in one movie, »

After he's finished up directing Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes adventure director Guy Ritchie will set his sights on making a live-action Lobo film for the studio. WB believes that it will be in production on the main man's movie early in 2010.
A new draft of the screenplay has been written by Don Payne and the movie will be produced by Joel Silver (Whiteout), Akiva Goldsman (Hancock) and Andrew Rona (Cursed). The studio is eyeing a PG-13 superhero movie, a rating classification that matches up with the character's mature readers label in his adventures published by DC Comics.
If you don't know the difference between your superheroes, Lobo is an extraterrestrial bounty hunter and the last of his race (after hunting all of the other Czarians to extinction.) A cigar-chomping, bad attitude loving bastard, Lobo is the scourge of the interstellar space lanes and equally feared and loathed by nearly everyone else in the universe. »

Debbie Rochon, often described as a scream queen herself, wrote in an article originally published in Gc Magazine that "a true Scream Queen isn't The Perfect Woman. She's sexy, seductive, but most importantly 'attainable' to the average guy. Or so it would seem." Nastassja Kinski Films: To the Devil a Daughter (1976) [1] Cat People (1982) [2] The Day the World Ended (2001) [3] Inland Empire (2006) [4] Kinski will always be remembered for the iconic photograph shot by Richard Avedon (with a snake coiled around her body) and her role in Paul Schrader's (not so good) remake of Cat People. Needless to say, it was a hit at the box office and Kinski deservingly received a Saturn Award for Best Actress. Caroline Munro Films: The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) [5] Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972) [6] Dracula A.D. 1972 [7] Maniac (1980) [8] Faceless (1987) [9] Demons 6 (1989) [10] Caroline Munro seduced audiences in her Hammer roles in films like Dracula A.D. 1972, but for gore hounds, »

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are two of the finest young actors in Hollywood. Eisenberg has appeared in Roger Dodger, The Emperor’s Club, Cursed, The Hunting Party and his break-out movie, The Squid and the Whale, a well-reviewed independent drama with Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels. Stewart, meanwhile, first rose to international prominence starring opposite Jodie Foster in Panic Room. She has since starred in Cold Creek Manor, Zathura, Fierce People, In the Land of Women, Into the Wild and the global smash Twilight, she is also set to reprise her role as Bella Swan in this year’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
In Adventureland Stewart stars as Em Lewin, the first girl to steal the heart of the film’s main protagonist, James Brennan, played by Eisenberg. They spark on screen and in real life, encouraging each other throughout the interview…

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as »

I’m not sure who exactly was waiting with baited breath for this, but whomever it was should be happy to read this post. To what am I referring? I’m talking about the announcement today that both David Arquette and Courtney Cox are signed up for another chapter in the Scream franchise which, at the moment, carries the clever title Scream 4.
According to Marc Malkin of E! Online, the duo are onboard the new film and, especially in the case of Arquette, thrilled to be doing it. “I fell in love with my wife on Scream, so the opportunity to bring [Dewey] back to life and for my wife to play that really bitchy character again, it’s just going to be really fun,” he said in the article.
Also according to Malkin, Kevin Williamson is busy working away on a script which apparently includes all the characters, even »

Zombieland, tipped as the American Shaun of the Dead, has arrived online in trailer form. Check it out here. The splatstick horror comedy stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Bill Murray. The gory story sees a group of lone survivors after a zombie holocaust, travelling coast to coast across the United States, and holing up in an amusement park. It looks a lot broader than Shaun, with more emphasis on action (lots of guns, no cricket bats) but it still looks a lot of fun, with Harrelson in particular on charismatic gung-ho form. Tantalisingly, Murray isn't obviously featured in the preview clip, suggesting an attempt to keep his role as a surprise. This is Eisenberg's second Land of the year, after the very different Adventureland, and the second horror comedy of his career: he played a teenage werewolf in Wes Craven's 2005 Cursed. When 28 Days Later came out, writer Alex Garland »

Another day, another remake. Or maybe another reboot, I guess. This isn't the first time we've heard about Scream 4, but this is the first time we've heard that they're going all the way back to the original cast. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette have been approached to return for a new Scream movie that is being written and directed by Kevin Williamson, primarily responsible for writing Scream and Scream 2 as well as Wes Craven's Cursed. But that's not all - Williamson has "been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies." EW says that no deals have been signed for either of the Arquette's, so don't take this as confirmed casting yet. Our last update on Scream 4 from January actually mentioned that they would be using a younger cast, not an older (or »

Our second stab at the Oscars contains make-up effects and score (read part 1 here). The make-up effects, followed by the visual effects and technical awards, remain my favorite parts of the show; here you got to see your heroes: Rick Baker, Howard Berger, Chris Walas or Rob Bottin in the audience. Even the great Stan Winston could have been out there, back in the day. Though best known for his “visual effects” wins—he brought home an Oscar for best make-up in 1991 for Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Here genre fans can rejoice, Greg Cannom brought home the gold, again, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cannom, a genre elder, worked alongside (just to name a few) Fincher, Coppola, Landis, Dante, Blatty, and Cohen creating all sorts of character and creature make-ups.

It’s the most important day in the movie calendar - and that’s just not because it’s time for the Weekend Movie News Wrap Up but it’s also Oscar night!
This week:
Tyler Perry tops the box office; Wes Craven talks Scream 4; The Dark Knight is mildly successful; Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigel know Five Killers (hint - it’s not their last few movies); Sandra Bullock has a Blindside (it’s the only reason for Hope Floats) and Martin Lawrence goes Back To Africa.
Box Office
Tyler Perry continues to surprise with each movie. Madea Goes To Jail should lock up about $40 million over the weekend giving the control freak a career best despite terrible reviews.
Liam Neeson’s Taken closes in on the $100 million mark with a weekend gross of $11 million. Did anyone imagine this film making that much money?
