Max is bringing one of 2024’s most talked-about docuseries to its platform as a trailer teasing the Spacey Unmasked docuseries debuts. The preview drops almost one year since Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey was found not guilty of sex crimes. The U.S. presentation arrives courtesy of Channel 4 and Max, with Oscar-nominee Mike Lerner producing alongside ex-Channel 4 News boss Dorothy Byrne. The two-part docuseries begins airing on Monday, May 6 and concludes on May 7.
According to Channel 4, Spacey Unmasked “investigates Spacey’s conduct and talks to multiple men unconnected to [last year’s] case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before.”
Spacey Unmasked examines the famed actor from films like Se7en, The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, and more through never-before-seen interviews and archive footage. The doc travels back to Spacey’s youth and early days on Broadway. It also reflects on the actor taking...

Last year, the talk of Tinsel Town was the infamous defamation between between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the most viral trial in recent memory. It’s arguably the most viral court course of all time, given how quickly clips of testimony from the proceedings hit social media online. The 2023 upfront presentations are officially in the books — let the negotiations between ad sales and media-buying teams begin! Oh, and let the negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP pick back up. And soon; please?
The writers strike isn’t just (temporarily) damming the development pipeline, it deflated the once-a-year upfronts, practically eliminating all star power from the live events and making Netflix’s big debut, well, not live at all. Of course, all of that was the entire point of the daily picket lines.
“One of the reasons having a lot of people out on the sidewalk, if you will, is so powerful is because you have to look people in the eye,” Lowell Peterson, executive director of the Writers Guild of America — East, told IndieWire. “You have to realize these are actually human beings. This is not some proxy shareholder fight…this is a human reality.”

It’s official: Sony Pictures has won the race to finance and distribute Quentin Tarantino‘s next movie.
Known under the rather apt working title ‘#9’, the 1960s period drama will be Tarantino’s ninth feature film, continuing a legacy that began when Reservoir Dogs launched him onto Hollywood’s radar back in ’92. It’ll also be the first to launch since the ongoing Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal, hence the change in personnel.
Indeed, Deadline’s report makes mention of a bidding war for #9, after every studio – Disney notwithstanding – in Tinsel Town expressed an interest in Quentin Tarantino’s latest venture. But the die has been cast: Sony Pictures has acquired worldwide rights for an unknown price tag, and it’s understood Tarantino is lining up a suitably stellar cast for what will be another R-rated feature.

In Lady Dynamite, she stars as a semi-fictional version of herself as the show chops and changes between three time periods in her life: her time in La before she had a mental breakdown, her time spent in her home town of Duluth getting help in a psychiatric ward, and the present day. Sorry, “This Is Us”: Tuesday night was all about baseball — especially in Tinsel Town. Fortunately for Angelenos, the Dodgers stayed alive with a World Series Game 6 victory. Primetime champ Fox must be pretty pleased with the results too. Other networks felt the blow from the potential elimination game. For example, the hit NBC drama dove 26 percent from last week in they key 18-49 demographic’s Nielsen ratings. It didn’t help either that “Us” followed a “Voice” recap show this time around. Don’t worry, fans of the Pearson family — last night’s episode will just grow even more than usual in delayed.

Justin Bieber may have someone new in his life.
The singer, 23, was seen leaving the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood after having a night out with Ballers actress Paola Paulin, 26, on Wednesday, a source tells People.
“He was with her at Chateau and told people the next day she was ‘hot as s—,’ ” the source says.
While some in Hollywood treated the famed hotel like a church, the duo went to actual church prior to heading to Tinsel Town’s go-to hot spot.
The two were spotted leaving Bieber’s church on Wednesday night at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.

Once a platoon, always a platoon... It's been over 31 years since Oliver Stone's classic 1986 film Platoon hit theaters. Three of the movie's stars, Johnny Depp, Kevin Dillon and Charlie Sheen, who were budding young actors at the time, may not be fresh faces in Tinsel Town any more, but they're definitely famous ones and it looks like they're still hanging tough—together. Earlier today, Dillon, who went on to star in HBO's Entourage, posted a photo of the trio's reunion last night on Instagram. In the fun photo, the trio appear to be partying down at Depp's home in the Hollywood Hills. Depp is pictured smoking while wearing a Johnny Cash shirt, Dillon is smiling wide...

Antonio Banderas is one of the more recognisable faces (and certainly one of the most recognisable voices) in Hollywood. His presence in front of the camera is tangible, and the variety of roles he enjoys now is testament to a versatility few could have expected of the man who came to Tinsel Town barely speaking a word of English.
He has been a masked legend (twice, one furry – the other not so), played with another kind of mask (horrifcally so – see the final note), appeared opposite the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Spongebob Squarepants. He’s done it all, and now a new film of his arrives on DVD this week.

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for Wonder Woman.
Could Steve Trevor return to the Wonder Woman franchise in a sequel? Believe it or not, that seems to be a question that’s circulating in Tinsel Town. Without a doubt. Chris Pine’s portrayal of the World War I spy was a huge part of the film’s success, and it’s understandable why the studio and filmmakers would bat this question around.
Speaking with Fandango, director Patty Jenkins discussed the prospect of seeing Steve Trevor in a future flick.
"All I can say is it was a dilemma. It's something I hope we don't talk about in the public [because] I want people to see, but it's very hard to know which characters will be in the next movie because of the time period, so it's a big question."

Ghost in the Shell may have been a failure of epic proportions, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all anime adaptations are doomed from the get-go. Admittedly, many studios may wait on pins and needles to see how Netflix’s Death Note film fares, but there are still countless anime adaptations that would be a good fit for Tinsel Town. One film that’s been in development hell for as long as we can remember is Akira.
For those unfamiliar, Akira was first a sci-fi manga from Katsuhiro Otomo, and later a 1988 animated film from the creator. The film has since gone on to become a staple of the medium — although, if you ask me, the manga’s executed much better in terms of story. However, if there’s one quality aspect that cannot be denied, it’s the animation. The film itself is gorgeous, and a testament of...

For years, fans have been looking forward to seeing a faithful take on the Spider-Man villain/anti-hero, Venom. Our first taste came in the unfortunate form of Spider-Man 3, wherein Topher Grace played a silly emo version of Eddie Brock. Not only did the film turn out to be a huge disappointment, but the inclusion of Venom felt like an annoying afterthought.
However, with Spider-Man now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumors started to swirl around Tinsel Town that Sony would be creating its own pocket universe, and that it would all be kicked off with Venom. A couple months back, we got an October 2018 release date, and rumors that Alex Kurtzman would be helming the project.

It’s been roughly 87 years since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was confirmed to play Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe, and a lot has changed since then. The universe itself has gotten off to quite the rocky start, and tons of films have been planned and announced to help turn things around. Clearly, whatever Plan A was a few years ago is no longer at play here, and apart from a string of movie titles, we have little idea of how Warner Bros. plans on bringing it all together.
Despite the fact that it has Dwayne Johnson attached to the character, and despite the fact that we will be getting a standalone Black Adam film in addition to Shazam, his involvement in this universe seems like a distant prospect. As of right now, the core Justice League group seems to be having enough problems to get through before introducing another set of characters.

That's just what Kate Hudson had the opportunity to do when she and her famous mama Goldie Hawn had a sit down for Interview magazine's May issue. In the candid interview, the mother-daughter duo talked about everything from The First Wives Club star's wild past as a go-go dancer to the comedy icon's advice for younger actors and why she took a 15-year break from Tinsel Town. On the subject of what personal freedom means to her, Hawn told her daughter, "My sense of liberation and the freedom to speak the way I want to and to feel solid in my shoes was getting stronger and stronger." Hawn continued,...

Bella Thorne finds herself in an interesting position. The former Shake It Up 19-year-old starlet is ready to abandon her Disney Channel roots to move into more mature, less kid-friendly entertainment, yet she’s not willing to pull a Miley Cyrus and jump completely into the deep end. Rather, she’s progressing gradually onto the other side, working her way into everything from the newest Madea movie to the long-delayed Amityville: The Awakening to even the latest Xavier Dolan joint. Her career options are varied and versatile, one must admit, but she’s also keeping herself close to home. Thorne reconnects with both the Mouse House and the small screen at the center of the newest Freeform original series, an adaptation of Rebecca Serle’s Ya novel Famous in Love.

Some people might suggest that National Pet Day is just another fake phenomenon cooked up to sell greeting cards and blood diamonds. But here in Hollywood, where no such cynicism exists, the famous and fabulous rushed to social media Tuesday to pay tribute to their beloved animal companions. Read on to see how Tinsel Town honored its loyal furry pals. “Avengers” star Mark Ruffalo posted a super tribute to his furry friends, declaring that, in his household, every day is National Pet Day. For several years now, Death Note has been one of those anime and manga adaptations that seems to have been in constant development in Hollywood. While it’s definitely one of the newer manga series out there to get tossed around Tinsel Town, it joined the likes of Akira and Ghost in the Shell as one of the series that would inevitably head on over to the west.
Unlike a good number of anime or manga series coming out of Japan, it was one with a premise that could easily be catered to a Western audience with few changes. Just rearrange the setting, change shinigami to grim reaper, or some variation, and you got yourself a pretty solid thriller. More than even Akira and Ghost in the Shell, I felt Death Note had the potential to really take off in a big way in North America.

Even though we live in an era where practically every film franchise under the sun is likely to get a remake, reboot, or sequel at any given moment. With the new release of Mildred Pierce, the Criterion Collection appears to be solidifying a trend over the past couple years of providing a showcase for some of the greatest female actors from Hollywood’s Golden Age. Since late 2014, stars like Claudette Colbert (It Happened One Night, The Palm Beach Story), Rita Hayworth (Gilda, Only Angels Have Wings) and Rosalind Russell (His Girl Friday) have made their first appearances in the Collection, in what can be considered career-defining roles. These additions seem to be addressing a notable blind spot for Criterion. As impressive as their reach has been in bringing many of the most iconic women from the past hundred years of world cinema to the forefront, the continuing absence of silver screen legends like Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor, just to name a few, seems like a lingering oversight, a problem yet to be...

I think Warner Bros may soon be legally obligated to foot the bill for all our medical expenses, because we’re getting whiplash from all the news coming out of the DC camp. The whole situation surrounding Ben Affleck, The Batman, and his overall involvement has been one giant question mark for the past several months.
First Affleck was kind of directing, but no one was saying anything, then they confirmed it, but Affleck is then waffling on the whole thing. Late last year, Affleck expressed his frustration very publicly about everyone constantly asking him about The Batman. While up until that point, he had shown some reticence to comment on the film, it started to feel more and more real that he may step down as director.

“Don’T Mess With Huac”
By Raymond Benson
Perhaps the first film we saw that convinced us that Woody Allen could actually act—i.e., not be his nebbish, nervous comic persona from his early directorial efforts—was Martin Ritt’s 1976 comedy/drama, The Front, which appeared a year before Allen’s Annie Hall.
The Front was perhaps the first Hollywood film to tackle the subject of “the blacklist” that occurred in the movie industry in the late 1940s and throughout most of the 50s. This abominable practice was due to the investigation of “Communist infiltration” in Tinsel Town by Huac—the House Un-American Activities Committee. It was truly a dark time in U.S. history, one in which friends were pressured to “name names” or face the prospect of unemployment or worse, such as jail time. Note that the Hollywood studio heads were responsible for the actual blacklisting. The...

James Franco and Seth Rogen, the creative duo behind such cult comedy hits as The Interview and This is the End, are Hollywood bound in the first trailer for Zeroville, a biting satirical period romp hailing from Franco himself.
It’s pitched as his most ambitious directorial effort to date, and after clocking eyes on the extensive first trailer, we’re inclined to believe those claims. Featuring a host of regular faces in Jacki Weaver, Megan Fox, Craig Robinson, Will Ferrell and Danny McBride, Zeroville is set against the Tinsel Town of ’69 where Ike “Vikar” Jerome stars out on a journey that offers up tragedy and discovery in equal measure.
Placing a laser focus on celebrity culture and all things Hollywood, Seth Rogen is on board as a character known as Viking Man – “gatekeeper to all the right parties, a cigar-chomping surf hippie; Vikar’s eccentric Hollywood guide” – while the...

The world of reality television obviously makes for some strange combinations, but admitting to being a horrible cook, and being a celebrity, makes for one of the more interesting ones to watch.
Anne Burrell and Rachael Ray are taking a shot at teaching some celebrities to avoid poisoning people, and it’s all for charity.
The Worst Cooks format is strange enough, as the franchise has thus far managed some bizarre concoctions, and with questionable overall results, but when you throw in a group of celebrities, it’s actually a lot more interesting than the standard version of the show. You not only have to agree to be on the show to admit that you are truly awful as a cook, but you also have to be a celebrity willing to show up.
Having some money for charity up for grabs gives the celebrities some motivation, and Burrell and Ray...

If you haven't yet read Vulture's interview with Noah Galvin do that immediately.
The Real O'Neals star is candid, cocky, and catty. Though the big 3 networks have a tough time making headway in Emmy categories these days, that show would be a wonderful addition to the comedy lineups in several categories, especially Leading Actor. Noah 1000% deserves a nod for his clever, heartfelt, nuanced but hilarious work as out gay teen Kenny O'Neal dealing with his Irish Catholic family and new confidence.
Still, I'm guessing Noah Galvin's scorched earth interview style, talking Hollywood's closeted gays for filth (yas queen!) and trashing Bryan Singer, Colton Haynes, Modern Family etcetera ... is not going to win him much favor in Tinsel Town though we're totally for it here at Tfe. Hollywood needs to get woke on so many levels but especially in regards to ethnic and sexual diversity, both of which they're hopelessly behind with.

“Anger Management Issues”
By Raymond Benson
A character makes an excuse for the bad behavior of Dixon Steele, a Hollywood screenwriter played by Humphrey Bogart, by saying, “He’s a writer—people like him can afford to be temperamental.”
Released in the same year as Billy Wilder’s acerbic film noir attack on Tinsel Town, Sunset Boulevard, and Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s similar assault on show business, All About Eve, Nicholas Ray’s In a Lonely Place was nowhere near as popular—but it was just as scathing. It may not have been a box office success, but the picture’s reputation has grown considerably over the decades, mainly because Bogart’s performance as a bitter, angry movie scribe ranks among his best onscreen personas. But it’s not pretty. The guy has anger management issues, the likes of which probably had not been seen in a mainstream film prior to the picture’s release.

On the eve of its opening at the Cannes International Film Festival, the snappy first trailer for Woody Allen’s Café Society has hit the interwebs, sending Jesse Eisenberg to the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Born and raised in the Bronx, it is Bobby Dorfman (Eisenberg) that anchors Allen’s period flick, uprooting from a comfortable life in New York City in a bid to break into the booming film industry. Arriving in Tinsel Town wide-eyed and hungry, Café Society seeds a love story between Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart’s character, before our protagonist flits back to the Big Apple, where he is “swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life.”

Fresh off portraying a shunned screenwriter in last year’s awards contender Trumbo, Bryan Cranston will be remaining in the realm of real-life biopics for HBO’s upcoming political drama, All the Way.

Anglophilia is alive. Of course, that shouldn't come as any surprise. People have been going crazy for English accents basically since the creation of England. (That was in, like, 1900 right?). And in the reverse, American people have been cursing our vowels for just as long. Nowhere is this more relevant than in Hollywood. Everyone loves an actor with an accent—it's pretty much the one trait that contributed to Benedict Cumberbatch's meteoric rise. (Just kidding, we love everything about you B!). In the last few years there has been a very noticeable uptick in actors coming from across the pond (make that several ponds) to invade Tinsel Town. We're all about this trend,...

Kristen Stewart, James Franco and Helena Bonham Carter are all in negotiations to board Justin Kelly’s transgender biopic, Jt LeRoy.

There, Fortitude are aiming to launch the feature to foreign investors, though the addition of Stewart, Franco and Carter has been the first major sign of progress from the drama. Set to be written and directed by Kelly, it’s understood the filmmaker will take inspiration from Savannah Knoop’s memoir Girl Boy Girl: How I Became Jt Leroy, and it’s safe to assume that either Stewart or Bonham Carter are circling either the role of Knoop or author Laura Albert.
