Christopher Walken has made so many movies playing psychos and weirdos, he can't remember half of them. But in his latest film, A Late Quartet, he's been cast against type as a cellist with Parkinson's. He says why he'd be happier playing it straight
Christopher Walken will tell you what irritates him. "Quite often, I'll be sent a script for a movie," he says. "And I find that I like it, so I say I'll do it. But then they rewrite it for me. They make it quirky. Odd. I find that rather annoying. I call it Walkenising."
He chuckles, then stops dead. There is silence. We are on the phone, so that when he speaks it is hard not to wonder what else he might be doing. "I'm in Connecticut," he says when I ask, at the rural home he shares with his wife.
The irony is that the film he's promoting,...

1.) A photo from the set of Shame helmer Steve McQueen's latest film, Twelve Years a Slave, reveals Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis has joined the already-loaded cast. The film tells the true story of a New York citizen (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the mid-1800s. It also features the talents of Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano and some guy named Brad Pitt, who is also producing through his Plan B banner. [Lester Zeigler, via Shadow and Act] 2.) The legal drama surrounding Raging Bull 2 seems to be resolved. MGM had previously filed a lawsuit against the makers of the low-budget sequel, which would be based on boxer Jake Lamotta's life both before and after the events in Martin Scorsese's 1980 classic. The studio has now dropped the case with the stipulation that the low-budget follow-up changes its name from Raging Bull 2 to The Bronx Bull...

It came, it saw, it massively underwhelmed. Nevertheless, despite lukewarm critical reviews, Prometheus shot to the top of the UK Box Office this week, comfortably ahead of Snow White and the Huntsman in second. I imagine Prometheus will have plenty of legs and should be at the top for another week or so yet as people flock to see what all the fuss is about.
The major release this week is Lucasfilm production Red Tails which tells the story of the first African-American airmen to serve in the American army during World War 2. It’s a project George Lucas has had gestating for some time now but he has wisely handed over directorial duties to Anthony Hemingway, an experienced TV director making his first foray into feature films. I can’t see Red Tails challenging the big hitters at the top of the Box Office pile, but it should do...

For the fourth consecutive year Hollywood has selected its Black List, a compilation of the top unproduced screenplays for 2009. Over 300 film professionals were asked to submit the titles of up to ten of their favorite screenplays. The only condition for the picks were that the projects would not be released in theaters this year. That means some of the Black List honorees may be in the process of being turned into movies but by far the majority remain thoughts on digital ink, a blueprint for grand dramatic ideas, high-reaching adventure and controversial ideas waiting to be burned to light.
For a screenplay to have made it onto the Black List it must have received at least five votes for it. Some scripts have five votes while the top-rated screenplay received 47 votes. That doesn't mean that the script with the most votes is the best screenplay of the year; it means...
