Rock band Wilco recently released their tenth studio album titled “Schmilco” which includes the breezy tune “Someone to Lose.” The group shared the music video for the single, which happens to be a stunning claymation piece.
The clip was created by Joseph Baughman and features a griffin in a “Lorax”-looking field, a bride and groom dancing in and around a wedding cake and a scene that reminds us of King Kong’s Empire State Building moment.
The folksy song features an acoustic guitar and minimal drums with an electric guitar to jazz up the chorus. “Schmilco” is the band’s latest album since 2015’s surprise LP “Star Wars.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Jeff Tweedy described the album as “joyously negative.” Adding, “It’s sad in a lot of ways but not in any that reach a conclusion of doom or hopelessness. I just had a lot...

Liz Garbus' "What Happened, Miss Simone?" begins with footage of Nina Simone taking the stage at the 1976 Montreaux Jazz Festival. It was a performance that simultaneously represented a comeback from self-imposed exile for the iconic chanteuse, but also has been used as an example of the mercurial, erratic and occasionally bizarre work that characterized the middle of Simone's career. Simone stands in front of her piano and takes a prolonged bow. She stares into the audience and seemingly off into space. There's almost no way to read her. Is she embracing the applause? Is she alienated in the spotlight? Is this her dream? Is it her nightmare? It's a perfect prelude to the film's title, which comes from a 1970 Redbook piece by Maya Angelou. That enigmatic opening and the interrogative title lead, somewhat disappointingly, into a rather conventional cradle-to-the-grave documentary. But even if there's a sense that a woman...

Shallow Grave
Directed by Danny Boyle
Written by John Hodge
1994, UK
From its opening sequence set in the point of view of a driver’s seat headed down the streets of Edinburgh, with the techno sounds playing in the background, audiences back in 1994 must have known they were in for something dark, hip and very different. Boyle’s talent was apparent right from the start with those overhead rotating shots closed in on Christopher Eccleston’s head. In his big-screen directing debut, British film maker Danny Boyle demonstrates wit, patience and shows what he can do with little resources and a limited budget. We knew we had a star in the making. Invoking the memory of Alfred Hitchcock, Shallow Grave is a deadpan, nihilistic thriller, best compared to The Last Seduction and Red Rock West – with an overcast similar to the Coen Brothers’ Blood Simple and Sam Raimi’s A Simple Plan.

Volkswagen has unveiled its most important product launch of the year with a campaign for the small car, Volkswagen Up!.
Created by Ddb Sydney, a TV campaign will be supported by street furniture, print executions, a microsite and web banners which will run nationally.
Nick Pringle, creative director at Ddb Sydney commented: “Working on the launch of the up! was a huge opportunity but also a challenge, because small cars have such a negative perception in Australia. The phrase ʻtin can on wheelsʼ springs to mind. Who better to tell our story than a lovable old-timer who believes that heʼs being driven in a big car, such is the quality of the new up!.”
Jutta Friese, Gm Marketing of Volkswagen, said: “The launch of the Volkswagen up! is our most important product launch for the year as it marks our entry into the sub-light category. The up! sets a new...

R&B superstar Mary J. Blige will be taking on the role of legendary soul and jazz singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Simone, who was known as the High Priestess of Soul, but also sang in a myriad of other genres, flourished in the 1960s and 1970s with a series of civil rights anthems. Some of her most acclaimed songs included “My Baby Just Cares for Me,” “To Be Young, Gifted and Black,” and her rendition of Porgy and Bess’ “I Loves You, Porgy.” Cynthia Mort — who previously created HBO’s short-lived Tell Me You Love Me...

Fresh off her role in Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All by Myself," Mary J. Blige has signed on to play legendary crooner Nina Simone in a biopic of her life.
According to Variety, the film — currently titled "Nina" — focuses on Simone's relationship later in life with her assistant Clifton Henderson, who will be played by David Oyelowo ("The Last King of Scotland").
Although this will be the first major leading role for the Grammy winner, Blige has been flexing her acting muscles since 1998, when she played Ola Mae on "The Jamie Foxx Show." Since that appearance, Blige has guest-starred in episodes of "The Ghost Whisperer" and "Strong Medicine," and her other film credits include "Prison" and "Angel: One More Road to Cross."
