William Friedkin’s The Exorcist was one of the few horror movies that managed to keep its viewers up late at night, tucked in the safety of their blankets. If they needed a glass of water and that clock was past midnight, they would just have to wait till the sun was up to quench their thirst. A true horror film in all its glory! And now, director Mike Flanagan will be taking on the responsibility of taking the franchise a step forward.
William Friedkin’s The Exorcist (1973) | Warner Bros.
The Exorcist has had quite a few sequels to date, 5 to be exact. Unfortunately, none of them had an impact on their audience like the O.G. The franchise also produced a television series, The Exorcist, which did well. Coming back to the movies, one failed sequel after the other slowly extinguished the fans’ hopes, and they gave up on the franchise altogether.

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has preemptively purchased Hit the Gas, a spec script from Chris McCoy for Neal Moritz to produce.
Described as a propulsive thriller, the film’s logline is under wraps. Tania Landau will oversee for Moritz’s Original Film, with Vanessa Joyce overseeing for Paramount. We’re told the script when out last week to studio-based producers, with no attachments. Moritz immediately sparked to the material and got the studio to preempt the script in 24 hours.
A celebrated author named to the Black List of the year’s best unproduced screenplays three times, with Get Back, Good Looking and Good Kids, McCoy wound up directing the latter dramedy starring Nicholas Braun and Zoey Deutch. He’s written for Paramount, Marvel, Disney, Amazon, DreamWorks and Fox and seen his work as an author appear in both The Believer and McSweeney’s. Most recently, McCoy wrote Beast Leave for Anonymous Content and Paramount Television,...

Put down that notebook, grab your tap-dancing shoes, and saddle up because we're about to break down why one of Hollywood's most prominent leading men is more than Kenough.
In his thirty years as an actor, Ryan Gosling has amassed a total of 107 award nominations and 40 wins. No small feat, considering he's been known to take multiple years-long breaks in his line of work.
Having cemented a career with roles ranging from comedy to thriller to action, Gosling is not one to limit himself. As Roger Ebert said, Ryan "proves he's one of the finest actors in contemporary movies."
Starting at a young age, Gosling managed to sidestep the drama that has plagued many notable child stars in Hollywood's history.
The actor likely saw the downfall of fellow industry peers and prioritized his mental health to avoid such pitfalls.
Whatever the case, Ryan has also made a name for himself...

Beyoncé recently turned a lot of heads by releasing Cowboy Carter, a tribute to cowboy culture. Before then, Madonna had a cowboy era of her own. Interestingly, both of these career evolutions have different meanings.
Madonna and Beyoncé are part of a tradition of pop stars going the cowboy route
Cowboy Carter is a tribute to Black cowboys and their sadly ignored role in the Old West and their presence in Western culture today. By releasing the album, Beyoncé is making a turn toward country music, as well as placing herself within a long tradition of pop artists who drew from Americana imagery. For example, before Cowboy Carter, Lil Nas X combined country and trap music with his cowboy-themed megahit “Old Town Road.” He later released a remix of the song featuring 1990s country star Billy Ray Cyrus.
In 2000, Madonna released her last big album: Music. The cover of the...

Ryan Gosling has been one of the most popular actors in Hollywood for decades. He began acting as a young kid and rose to prominence by 13. He has appeared in some of the best independent films and major studio features in his career, spanning nearly three decades.
Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049
For someone as charismatic and talented as Gosling, one would assume he has had it easy since the start. However, that is not the case in reality. The actor has had his fair share of struggles when he was growing up. That, however, did not interfere with his journey of becoming one of the best actors or earning 3 Oscar nominations.

His portrayal of the beach-protecting, Barbie-loving Ken and his power anthem "I'm Just Ken" has now become a pop culture phenomenon, but Ryan Gosling initially turned down the role. For director Greta Gerwig, however, there was no alternative. She even wrote it into the script, where the main Ken is identified throughout as "Ken Ryan Gosling." Gerwig told SiriusXM that she and Margot Robbie sent Gosling numerous texts and promised daily presents on set to try and convince him.
"He absolutely passed," Robbie told Variety, but she and Gerwig persevered. "Every time he's like, 'I'm not doing this,' we were like, 'We are doing it, and it's going to be fun.'" As Gosling himself explained, one of main barriers was the classic Hollywood problem of scheduling conflicts: "There were actual reasons why I couldn't do the film. Schedule things. Life things."

The 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it Here) is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with a 4K release and a theatrical re-release… and fifty years after it first reached the screen, there are still new things to discover about it. Davis promised he would be releasing a commentary video including10 minutes of unseen outtakes and the full 2 minute makeup test video on Halloween – but when Halloween arrived, he delivered more than promised, revealing 35 minutes of rare outtake footage! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Ryan Gosling has been in show business since his days in the Mickey Mouse Club. Although he’s still going strong, Gosling once predicted that he would’ve quit Hollywood by now.

Gosling had been a bit of a veteran actor since before he turned 40. Most audiences first caught glimpses of him in his childhood years on The Mickey Mouse Club. Afterwards, he fled to Los Angeles when he was 17, and didn’t get his first real acting job until he turned 19. He credited the film The Believer, where he played a Nazi, as his breakthrough film role.
“After I did The Believer, things changed for me,”’ Gosling once told The New York Times. ”I felt I had a place I could put the things I had inside of me into.

VFX legend Phil Tippett, whose totally bonkers “Mad God” stop-motion horror film finally got released last year, is a special effects Emmy hopeful this season for an episode of Rian Johnson’s “Poker Face” on Peacock, written and directed by star Natasha Lyonne. He not only contributed old-school monster puppets but also inspired its story about a crusty old stop-motion filmmaker (Nick Nolte). The busy Tippett also supplied hellish cave set designs for Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” (on Disney+).
Both projects came as a result of Tippett’s “Star Wars” fame, which began when he led the Ilm animation department for “The Empire Strikes Back.” On the “Star Wars” sequel, he co-developed the “go motion” animation technique (stop-motion with motion blur) and was responsible for the At-at Imperial Walkers and the hybrid alien Tauntauns. On “Return of the Jedi,” he won his first Oscar for his creature work; with “Jurassic Park,...

Ryan Gosling is a very serious actor. His breakthrough performance came in Henry Bean's riveting "The Believer," where he played a Jewish-born neo-nazi. Five years later, he earned his Academy Award nomination for Best Actor as a cocaine-addicted middle school teacher in Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's "Half Nelson." He earned his second Best Actor nod as a wounded romantic of a jazz pianist in Damien Chazelle's bittersweet "La La Land." In between, he became an art-house tough guy in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive" and "Only God Forgives." But he's not above having fun or looking like a total doofus, as he displayed to endearing effect in Shane Black's "The Nice Guys," but there he's playing hard against the dreamboat type that could've made him one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood.
In other words, given that he's steadfastly refused to give his "The Notebook" fans one more swooning,...

With Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s giant action tentpole “The Fall Guy” on the way, Ryan Gosling remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men. But that wasn’t always the case. The Oscar nominee recently told GQ magazine that his rise to leading man got its start because he landed his first few roles on the belief that he wasn’t leading man material to begin with.
Gosling’s acting breakthrough came in 2001 with his leading role in Henry Bean’s “The Believer,” in which he played a Jewish kid from New York who becomes a Neo-Nazi. Gosling is none of these, but he said “the fact that I wasn’t really right for it was exactly why [Henry] thought I was right for it.” The actor got similar feedback when he went to audition for “The Notebook,” Nick Cassavetes’ 2004 Nicholas Sparks adaptation that turned Gosling and...

Ryan Gosling is, to most people, a famous actor. He’s well-known for his roles in movies like The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, and Blue Valentine. Versatile and low-key, Gosling has given equal attention to blockbusters and independent films. Interestingly enough, Gosling has had a lesser-known career in music. While he’s remained self-deprecating about his own musical talents, some know of the artist known as “Baby Goose.”

In "The Grey Man," the Russo brothers' latest expansive (and expensive) collaboration with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Billy Bob Thornton gets the "and" credit. That's fitting in terms of screentime, but it doesn't capture what Thornton brings to the film. His presence is the skeleton key to unlocking Marcus, McFeely, and the Russos' intentions. Thornton was one of the 1990s most prominent talents, a force in front of and behind the camera — sometimes in the same picture. "The Grey Man" deliberately rips its espionage and quip-to-dialogue ratio from the decade that made Thornton famous. Thornton gets this. He calibrated his whole performance as Donald Fitzroy — from its winking elements to sincerest stretches — knowing what "The Gray Man" is after. It's smooth. It's electric. That's peak Billy Bob Thornton.
Thornton has rarely stopped working or ceased being smooth or electric since his heyday more than two decades ago. He's...

When Giancarlo Esposito announced in an interview that season three of The Mandalorian would release this summer, we definitely had our doubts, especially considering the season had just finished filming. Sadly, we turned out to be right. We now have confirmation that the latest adventures of Pedro Pascal’s helmeted bounty hunter Din Djarin will be coming in early 2023. As part of the Lucasfilm panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, series creator Jon Favreau confirmed that the new season hits on Disney+ in February 2023.
Even better, the announcement came with a teaser trailer that hints at the next season’s arc. Although Lucasfilm is not yet making the trailer available online, Den of Geek was in attendance during the panel. Here’s a description of what we saw in the trailer:

Stars: Tony Todd, Billy Zane, Bruce Dern, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Morrone, Crash Buist, Danielle Gross, Meg Foster, Courtney Gains, John Kassir, Mike Ferguson | Written and Directed by Justin Lee
Set in the 1980s, somewhere around Christmas, Hellblazers is yet another original offering from Tubi, at least in some territories. Writer/director Justin Lee isn’t exactly somebody I expect a good film from, but even he can’t go wrong with a cast that includes Tony Todd, Billy Zane, Bruce Dern, Adrienne Barbeau and a few other genre vets, can he?
Wheelchair-bound Nam vet Bill Unger (Dern) is out visiting his wife’s grave when he hears something in the woods. He rolls over to the edge of the trees just in time to see Joshua (Zane) and his followers toss someone in a flaming pit, and a demon climbs out. As he aptly puts it, “We’ve got a big problem”.

IndieWire reached out to this year’s nominees for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour), and Limited Series or Movie, and asked them which cameras and lenses they used — but even more important: Why were these the right tools to create the look of their series? If you haven’t yet caught up on “The Mandalorian” Season 2, we suggest staying away from the 2021 Emmy ballots. They are chock-full of spoilers, including the fact that Mark Hamill has been submitted in the guest star category for playing a de-aged Luke Skywalker in the finale. Plus, fired cast member Gina Carano contends for the last time for her supporting role as mercenary Cara Dune. In all, 22 “The Mandalorian” cast members have been submitted for Emmys, including lead actor Pedro Pascal as the titular masked bounty hunter who seeks to protect his cute, green sidekick, Baby Yoda (aka Grogu).
SEEGiancarlo Esposito is trying to pull off what only his own co-star has done at the Emmys
Last year, this “Star Wars” offshoot turned out to be a surprise Emmy magnet, winning seven below-the-line trophies. It also received high-profile bids for drama series, guest actor for Giancarlo Esposito and voice-over performance for Taika Waititi.

Arriving on Digital platforms today courtesy of Freestyle Digital Media is The Believer from writer/director Shan Serafin. Starring Aidan Bristow, Sophie Kargman, and Billy Zane, the psychological thriller introduces us to an out-of-work scientist (Bristow) suffering from mental degeneration, who struggles with whether or not the strange occurrences happening in his life are real or are all in his head, culminating in a shockingly visceral finale that pushes all the characters into some very dark places.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Bristow about his involvement in The Believer and he discussed his longtime working relationship with Serafin, how he juggled his responsibilities on the film both onscreen and off, his experiences collaborating with his co-stars, and more.

One day, after rushing from her sugar daddy to her neurotic parents’ family shiva, she is given the third degree by various estranged relatives about her appearance and lack of post-grad plans. "If my child were evil, would you kill it?" Freestyle Digital Media has released an official trailer for an indie film titled The Believer, from filmmaker Shan Serafin. This horror-thriller hasn't shown up at any festivals or elsewhere and is getting a VOD release next month. Not to be confused with the 2001 skinheads film also titled The Believer, this indie isn't getting much of a big opening. Serafin's The Believer is a psychological thriller involving demonology within the context of marital strife. A scientist attempts to consult a therapist for help with his wife's increasingly bizarre and erratic behavior. But they eventually discover she might be possessed, or something like that. Gaslighting: The Movie, anyone? The cast includes Sophie Kargman as Violet, with Aidan Bristow, Susan Wilder, Lindsey Ginter, and Billy Zane. So many strange things going on in this trailer, but there's not enough Billy Zane in here to...

The cinematography for “Mank,” “Nomadland,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “News of the World” and “Cherry” has been nominated as the best film work of 2020 by the American Society of Cinematographers, the Asc announced on Wednesday.
The first four of those films were expected to be recognized by the Asc and are thought to be strong contenders for the Oscar for Best Cinematography, but “Cherry” came as a surprise. The Russo brothers film came out in February to withering reviews and had not been considered an awards contender until the Asc included its cinematographer, Newton Thomas Sigel, in its list of nominees.
“Cherry” landed that nomination over a group of films that included “Tenet,” “Minari,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” — and “Da 5 Bloods,” a more high-profile film that was also shot by Sigel.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Mandalorian” Season 2, Episode 8, “Chapter 16 – The Believer.”]
“Chapter 16 – The Rescue” is essentially the big-budget CGI equivalent of watching a small child smash their collection of action figures into one another. It’s messy, incoherent, and utterly mindless. But hey, at least the kid is having fun.
“The Mandalorian” Season 2 finale marks the long-awaited showdown between Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) following the latter’s abduction of Grogu earlier in the season. Though the episode delivers on that front, features a team-up between many of the show’s standout characters, and resolves the quest Mando set off on at the beginning of the season, it does so with so many noisy and plodding action scenes — and aggravating unanswered questions — that the end result isn’t particularly cathartic.
The episode kicks off with Mando, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) intercepting Gideon’s sniveling underling Dr.

Several months back, unconfirmed reports were making the rounds that Pedro Pascal had grown disillusioned with his role as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian after spending so much time under the helmet, to the extent where he’d simply refused to play ball and stormed off the set. Although these stories were completely unverified, the events of last week’s episode raised an eyebrow or two in certain circles.
Pascal spent more time with his face on show in “The Believer” than he had in the previous fourteen installments combined, leading to the conspiracy theorists positing that he’d got his own way in the end. Obviously, the actor would have been told right off the bat that Mando’s helmet almost always stays on because of how important it is to him as a character, but we digress.

The Mandalorian arrived like a ton of bricks on the heads of Star Wars fans who hoped that the show would fulfill all of their Boba Fett fantasies. What they received was more than even they could have expected. The first season wasted no time in revealing that this homage to spaghetti westerns and samurai films would not just be about a faceless bounty hunter but also a child with a very familiar visage.
From the very first episode, Baby Yoda completely changed the dynamic of the show. Marketed as a story about a gunslinger making his way through the lawless corners of the galaxy and looking for his next pay day, The Mandalorian turned out to be a space-themed homage to Lone Wolf and Cub — a “father” protecting his child from money-hungry bounty hunters and ruthless Imperial agents. Mando might have once seemed like a rogue, but we learn...

A few months ago, there were rumors making the rounds that Pedro Pascal was threatening to quit The Mandalorian because he wanted to spend more time without the character’s signature helmet, even though he’d have surely been made aware that it was one of the requirements of the job when he first entered negotiations to star.
Further reports claimed that he was being difficult to work with and had even threatened to take the issue to Lucasfilm directly, before it was quietly debunked and never spoken of again. Until now, that is. Time to throw on those tinfoil hats and take a deep dive into conspiracy theory territory, because insider Grace Randolph has hinted that Din Djarin might not be the series lead when The Mandalorian returns for season 3.

“The Believer” takes Mando deep into enemy territory. With the help of dubious mercenary Migs Mayfeld (Bill Burr), Mando infiltrates an Imperial rhydonium refinery on the planet Morak in order to find the coordinates to Moff Gideon‘s cruiser. The plan seems simple enough: go undercover as Imperial troopers, get into the refinery, download the coordinates from a terminal, and get the hell out of there. But things never go quite as planned in The Mandalorian.
After fighting off a pirate attack force on the way to the refinery with a load of extremely volatile rhydonium (starship fuel in the Star Wars universe), Mando and Mayfeld both make it to the facility in one piece by dressing up as grey-green armored tank pilots. The penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 2 paid homage to one of the greatest pilots that the galaxy far, far away has ever seen, but it’s still unclear what the production crew meant by it.
Poe Dameron is an icon of Star Wars at this point. Lucasfilm first introduced the character in The Force Awakens as a pilot and commander of the Resistance. But during the events of the last two movies, he essentially took over the remnants of Leia Organa’s insurgent army, acting as commanding general in the Battle of Exegol. While it’s still unclear what the House of Mouse wishes to do with these Sequel Trilogy characters now that their story has come to a close, this is Star Wars that we’re talking about here, so it’s safe to say that they’ll be back, one way or another.

And Migs Mayfeld returns from the first season.
Migs is a solid and welcome character, though I clearly had not remembered who he was from his reference at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6.
I know, I know ... but I often suffer from Movie and TV Amnesia, remember? Good, 'cuz I don't.
As soon as I saw his mug, I remembered the crassly likable semi-villain.
He sure thrives on giving shit to Marshal Cara Dune and Mando, er ... Din.
By the way -- speaking of what to call the dude -- everyone still seems to be calling him Mando. But we have known his name for a while now.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Mandalorian” Season 2, Episode 7, “Chapter 15 – The Believer.”]
Ah, what a difference a face makes.
After briefly glimpsing Pedro Pascal sans helmet in the Season 1 finale, the stage was set for more — more unshielded Pascal, more questions about a man permanently encased in armor styling his mustache just so, but most importantly, more emotions. For all the effects wizardry and intense action offered by Disney’s semi-live-action Friday morning cartoon, “The Mandalorian’s” strongest emotional connection is controlled by a nonverbal puppet. Season 2 has gone to great lengths establishing a paternal bond between Mando and Baby Yoda, The Child, Grogu, or whatever you want to call him, and it’s done so without the aid of Pascal’s pretty visage.
Until now. While Mando’s “Taken”-esque closing speech would’ve been more effective if we could see the fire in his eyes, his vengeful decree to “Give me back my son!

Naturally, there are spoilers here. The penultimate episode of The Mandalorian’s second season, written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, brings us to the very brink of a confrontation with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). In order to get a bead on where Gideon’s cruiser might be, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) employs the help of Cara Dune […]

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
Din Djarin and his new crew infiltrate an Imperial processing facility in “The Believer.” The mission is simple: get the coordinates to Moff Gideon’s ship so that the team can break in and rescue Grogu from the Empire.
Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Cara Dune, and ex-Imperial turned mercenary Mayfeld (Bill Burr) help The Mandalorian execute the plan, which, as one might expect, goes rather wrong before the end. The result is lots of blasting and a few explosions inside an Imperial holdout on a new planet.

“The Believer,” written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, doesn’t have quite as many references as many of the other episodes this season, but we still managed to find a few. Rogue One fans will be pleased.

A review of “The Believer,” this week’s The Mandalorian, coming up just as soon as I fill out those Tps reports…
Jango Fett appeared without his helmet multiple times in Attack of the Clones. On Clone Wars, Mandalorians repeatedly showed their faces to others. The Mandalorian creative team didn’t inherit from George Lucas the idea that their leading man had to be masked at all times; it’s a choice they consciously made. Why, you might wonder, would they choose to limit themselves and their main character that way?...

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 7
Toward the end of many of Bungie’s video games, there’s a tank level. It’s a rollicking ride toward a finale, a big power fantasy all about momentum. With some exceptions for underdeveloped but effectively moving character work, “The Believer,” written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, is mostly that: a slide toward a finale that remains mostly mysterious. While it builds nicely on what came before, the connections between the characters still don’t quite feel complete, except when Din Djarin is there to glue them together.
Cara Dune, now firmly in her role as New Republic space police, checks the former Imperial-turned-mercenary Mayfeld (Bill Burr) out of a prison labor camp. Mayfeld is too bland to be truly irritating and too obnoxious and unprofessional to be endearing. Even after the episode gave him a little arc of his own,...
