Factual errors: When the POW camp is liberated by US forces, the US infantry are paratroopers. This can be seen by the distinct uniform and camouflaged helmets. Although the 11th Airborne division did fight in the Pacific theater, they fought in the Philippines. As the movies takes place in Thailand, it is impossible that the camp was liberated by an Airborne division.
Factual errors: Lt. Jim Reardon or "Yanker" as he is referred to in the film, would not have been in a wheelchair in the camp. The truth is, his back was too severely broken for him to be transported anywhere. He spent the rest of the time in camp bed-ridden. He appeared in a wheelchair in the film simply for camera flow.
Factual errors: The American 'paratroopers' who liberate the POW camp all have large protective goggles on their helmets. However, such goggles were usually worn only by special troops such as bazooka teams and tank crews.
Anachronisms: When Yank tries to persuade Ernie they should escape the camp, he tells him he is not kamikaze (suicidal). That moment in the movie is set in the beginning of 1942, but the first kamikaze (suicidal pilots) actually appear in 1944.
