Fantastic Trailer for William Kaufman’s Saints and Sinners

13 November 2009 10:02 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I’ve never heard of William Kaufman, but the boys over at Quiet Earth have, and they’ve been following his latest movie, the action/crime thriller “Saints and Sinners”. The film stars relative unknown Johnny Strong, who has had small roles in some big Hollywood action movies like “Black Hawk Down”, “Get Carter”, and “The Fast and the Furious”, but “Saints and Sinners” will mark his biggest role to date. Besides Strong in the lead, Kaufman has surrounded him with some notable genre names, including Tom Berenger, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Kim Coates. And oh yeah, the Mandylor brothers are apparently both in the film. But never you mind all that, check out this trailer for the movie. Now that is a trailer. In lawless storm ravaged New Orleans, beleaguered detective, Sean Riley, is trying to cope with the death of his young son and the abandonment of his wife. »

Rumor Patrol: Vin Diesel Still Doing ‘xXx 3′

19 October 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

There was a rumor floated recently by CineFools that Vin Diesel had dropped out of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.  If you heard that rumor and freaked out, you can now turn red ’cause Diesel’s publicist emailed MTV and said it was untrue.  This is exactly what was said in that email:

“I made a few calls on this and I can tell you that it is completely not true.“

The action-packed xXx franchise began with Diesel in 2002, when he played the extreme sports athlete-turned government operative, Xander Cage.  xXx: State of the Union (2005) ripped Cage away from us and replaced him with Ice Cube’s Darius Stone. The third installment in the franchise is to be directed by Ericson Core, who brought us Invincible and was the cinematographer on Daredevil.

It was suspected the Deisel had dropped out of The Return of Xander Cage because director Rob Cohen, »

Justin Lin to Direct Highlander Reboot

22 September 2009 3:26 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Last year it was announced that a Highlander remake was on the way, with Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway hired to give a fresh new take on Russell Mulcahy's original 1986 film that would lay the groundwork for a franchise reboot. Considering that the Highlander series had slowly descended into the depths of direct-to-dvd hell over the past 20 years, I don't think anyone was too surprised by this move. The question remains though... can Highlander actually be repackaged and sold to a new generation? This week Summit Entertainment has apparently found a couple of people who they feel can pull it off: director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz, who previously worked together on the last two installments of The Fast and the Furious series. Lin's directing credits also include the crime thriller Better Luck Tomorrow, boxing drama Annapolis, and mockumentary Finishing the Game. Well, I guess »

Gondry starts filming Green Hornet with Seth Rogen & Cameron Diaz

3 September 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Nothing can spot Green Hornet now! Ok, there’s actually probably tons of things that could continue to interfere with this production going smoothly. At least it looks like Seth Rogen is keeping the weight off! One thing that is interesting is Nic Cage (who Variety reported was signed up …) is still in negotiating to be the villain.

Here’s the news release …

A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up) as the vigilante crime-fighter. Production is underway on the Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) helmed film, which is produced by Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, The Fast and the Furious) and executive produced by Michael Grillo (The Accidental Tourist), Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express), Ori Marmur (Evan Almighty) and George W. Green Hornet Production Start & Casting Additions

3 September 2009 4:25 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Over the weekend, news broke that the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet was being pushed back to allow for more post-production time. The five-month delay, which moves the film from its original Summer release to a holiday opening a week before Christmas, sure isn’t slowing down production of the film.

In recent weeks, we’ve heard about several casting decisions for the Seth Rogen-starrer including that of Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) and Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou taking over the role as Green Hornet’s side-kick, Kato. More recently, there’s been two more additions to the growing cast of talented and recognizable stars: Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour.

The official press release is as follows:

XXX 3 Lands a Director

1 September 2009 4:20 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The third installment in the XXX opus is on its way, and Columbia Pictures has hired Ericson Core to direct it. Titled XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, relative newcomer Core (Invincible) will need to be approved by Vin Diesel, though Core and Diesel have worked together previously on The Fast And the Furious where Core acted as cinematographer.

XXX director Rob Cohen was originally supposed to reunite with Diesel. When Cohen backed out to direct Medieval, he called the decision to leave "tough" and hoped the production would wait for him. Apparently, it hasn't.

The script for The Return of Xander Cage was written by Terminator Salvation writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and will follow Cage's return to the National Security Agency after an absence of eight years.

xXx 3 Gets a New Director

News has surfaced, by way of The Hollywood Reporter, stating that a new director has been found for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, the third installment in Columbia Pictures’ action series. Last year both star Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen (director of the first installment) agreed to join forces for a third film, but in June this year Cohen bailed to direct Medieval. The new director is Ericson Core (Invincible), who’s worked with Diesel before as the Cinematographer on The Fast and the Furious.

Diesel starred in the original xXx back in 2002, but both he and director Cohen skipped the second film, xXx: State of the Union, starring Ice Cube and directed by Lee Tamahori.

Diesel was somewhat of a hot name at the time of xXx, but for some reason he thought it best to skip both the sequel and two of the Fast and the Furious »

The Fast And The Furious Trilogy DVD Reviews -- Hunter writes more on these films than you thought possible

7 April 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Written by Hunter M. Daniels The Films:short Version: Part 1: Good premise, solid structure. Paul Walker gives what is possibly the worst lead performance of anyone in any major Hollywood film, ever*. Lots of clunky dialogue is offset by an ultra-cool, star-making turn from Vin Desel. Also, very gay. Part 2: A cartoony romp. Occasionally effect as spectacle, but deeply, aggressively stupid. Tyrese gives Walker a run for his money in the awful performance category. This one is very, very gay. Part 3: Shockingly, hilariously dumb, but significantly more effervescent and fun than the previous 2 entries. No painful performances and solid, clean action direction that marks the series high point. Less gay. Also, Sonny Chiba. ‘Fast & Furious’ With Vin Diesel, Paul Walker is Loud, Boring, Useless Drivel

3 April 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Rating: 1.0/5.0 Chicago – It took eight years to reunite the cast of the original “The Fast and the Furious” - Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez. What’s changed in that time? The franchise lost two articles and gained an ampersand. Maybe the next film will simply be called “F F”. I can think of one word that start with ‘F’ that certainly apply to the latest film - failure.

With dialogue that wouldn’t pass an eighth-grade English class, two lethargic lead performances by a pair of actors who might as well be wearing signs that say “for the paycheck,” and only two real racing sequences, “Fast & Furious” is likely to let down even the most forgiving and hardcore fans of one of the more successful franchises of the ’00s.
