Once in a great while; a motion picture comes along that grips you to your spiritual core, while tantalizing with terror, tormenting with elements of horror, and tranquilizing you with fear. The film in question: Absolute Vow.
Viewers will be instantly immersed into a stunning world of surrealism, in glorious two-strip technicolor. A rekindling of the deep faith you once had. It is the latest from Grindhouse Guru, Jared Masters. A true Biblical tragedy. The strange, brutal story of Jephthah's daughter.
One thousand years before Christ, in an age where pagans ran rampant... Incest and child sacrifices were common place, for false gods that consumed the minds of many wicked men, until the shocking story of a virgin ... without a name, made its way into the Holy Canon, and now, fully embellished for the first time, by the Sultan of Sensationalism, Jared Masters.

From the visionary mind of the man that brought us Slink and After School Massacre, comes a new kind of cinematic experience, Absolute Vow, an adaptation from Judges 11, in the Old Testament.
Biblical scholars have called it the strangest story in the Holy cannon, the unsettling tale of Jephthah, who was faced with a very difficult decision; sacrifice his only daughter, or break the vow he made to God Almighty.
The film is Frolic Pictures’ most profound, intricate and complicated production thus far. The bizarre story has been on Masters’ heart for some time, and finally his Bible epic will be made and will give new meaning to the faith-based film, that also has elements of horror, fantasy and sensationalism.
The movie is rumored to be shot on 16mm black and white film, with a cast of thousands. Hundreds of men have constructed the massive Biblical sets needed to bring...

Filmmaker George Hickenlooper passed away on October 29, 2010, at the way too early age of 47. Casino Jack is the last film from late director George Hickenlooper, who died on October 30, 2010. Most well known for his documentary Hearts of Darkness, chronicling the nightmare of a movie shoot for Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, Hickenlooper was also responsible for films like Factory Girl and Mayor of the Sunset Strip. With Casino Jack, Hickenlooper takes a look at Jack Abramoff, the famed Us lobbyist who was charged with defrauding American Indian tribes, corrupting public officials, tax evasion, conspiracy and other things. For those unfamiliar with Jack Abramoff and his shenanigans, the film tries to make it pretty easy and clear, by clearly outlining all the characters and explicitly displaying who Abramoff was and what he did. If you're not up to speed on politics, or American politics, you may be a bit lost at times, and you may not get as much out of the film as you otherwise could,...

47-year-old American narrative and documentary filmmaker, George Hickenlooper has sadly passed away over the weekend.
The multi-award winning director first made a name for himself with 1991’s Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmakers Apocalypse, a documentary focusing on the problematic shoot of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. His other credits include The Man from Elysian Fields, Mayor of the Sunset Strip and Factory Girl.
Although his death appears to be from natural causes (later confirmed as a heart attack) an investigation is on going. George was in Denver to premiere and promote his new fictional feature (inspired by true events) Casino Jack, which stars Kevin Spacey as a hotshot Washington DC lobbyist and his protégé who brush with the law as their schemes to peddle influence lead to corruption and murder.
Denver mayor John Hickenlooper, brother of the late director had this to say about Hickenlooper’s untimely passing:

Fairly appropriate for Election Day, and sadly as we mourn the film's director, George Hickenlooper, we present you with the official poster for the political comedy 'Casino Jack.' The one-sheet features Kevin Spacey, who stars as corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, front and center amidst a red-white-and-blue-themed design. Also showcased are co-stars Kelly Preston, Barry Pepper (as Mike Scalon, coupled with another glimpse at Spacey) and Jon Lovitz, who looks quite miserable in a neck brace. Hickenlooper, who died suddenly this past Saturday, gets proper recognition for what is unfortunately his final film. His name is very prominently and largely printed in two separate spots.
With 'Casino Jack' Hickenlooper dramatizes the true story of the Abramoff scandal in a way that's surprisingly balanced and fun, according to Scott Weinberg's review from the Toronto International Film Festival, where the movie premiered in September. You'll "have a...

Director known for his documentary about the making of the film Apocalypse Now
The films of the American director George Hickenlooper, who has died unexpectedly aged 47, straddled several genres, but he will be best remembered as a documentary maker thanks to his most celebrated work, Hearts of Darkness: A Film-maker's Apocalypse (1991). This riveting account of the troubled gestation of Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam war epic Apocalypse Now (1979) combined behind-the-scenes footage shot by Coppola's wife, Eleanor, with retrospective accounts by the cast and crew.
Hickenlooper observed "a strong parallel between Francis making the movie and the war itself. He really delved into the most sordid aspects of his own character." As Apocalypse Now's budget and schedule ran out of control – and its leading man, Martin Sheen, had a heart attack – Coppola was consumed by fears and self-doubt, as captured in the documentary. "There were too many of us,...

The above photo of Casino Jack director George Hickenlooper, with actor Jon Lovitz, was taken on Thursday night at the Paramount. Hickenlooper and Lovitz were in town for the Austin Film Festival closing-night film and party -- red carpet beforehand, Q&A afterward, you know the drill.

Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry
List # 1
By Alex Simon
When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.
1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah.
