Zhao Li Rong won Tokyo best actress by her real performance

IT's a typical Chinese 90's family story. Zhao Li Rong gave her warm and real-life style performance in this movie, BTW which is the top comedian in china through all 90s' until 2000(that's the year of her death).

it's a story of family's dilemma between different family member especially between 2 generations which erupted on "chu xi"(the day before the first day in Chinese lunar year).

though it's called "GUO NIAN" (spring festival), don't watch on that day. it does not feel very happy or new year. but overall this film worth watching.

Like a typical Chinese New Year, fights take place in millions of Chinese families.

Warning: Spoilers
A typical northeastern family: an intellectual afraid of his wife, a tough and spirited northeastern woman; a lustful and despicable villain, a submissive woman; a graduate intellectual, a rich official woman; a young man dependent on the elderly, a young woman with nothing to do; a woman who is out of place in southern life, a self-reliant migrant worker; an old man, an old woman, a small fat boy; a spring festival, a farce, a broken family. My family is amiable, but I saw millions of Chinese families from this movie, for money in the same room, leaving that false affection behind, and finally lifting the table, smashing the festive lights, separating the long broken family.
