Continuity: When Carl is putting ketchup on his burger, his plate spins round 180 degrees between him shaking the bottle and putting ketchup on the burger.
Continuity: An elderly couple on a street corner behind Randy, disappear and reappear between cuts.
Continuity: When Jewel brings the car home to show Randy, it is all covered in dirt and soot. Then as Detective Dehling pulls up in his car, you see the back of Jewel's car is shiny and clean. This is before the infamous "wash" scene, which happens as Detective Dehling is leaving.
Continuity: When Randy calls the police on what we have previously seen to be a push-button telephone, his fingers move in a arc and the sound of a rotary dial is heard.
Continuity: When Detective Dehling is riding the police motorcycle to Randy's house, the extra lights besides the bike's headlight are clear like a civilian motorcycle; when he arrives at the house, the lights are back to being a police bike's red and blue.
Continuity: During the gunfight finale, Elmo shows up with a stainless steel shotgun. Later on in the fight, it turns into a blued shotgun.
Continuity: When Det. Dehling walks into the house to talk to Jewel about her bruises, a beauty mask appears on her face for one shot and then disappears again.
Continuity: When the lawyer tries to rape Jewel, he rips off her black panties. However, in the next shot they're back again.
Continuity: Carl introduces Jewel to Greg as a legal advisor because of her black eye. This is the same black eye she acquired from Greg just before killing him.
Continuity: When Randy asks Jewel what her favorite thing in the world is, he lifts his right hand to drink from the cup. In the next shot, the cup is in his left hand.
Continuity: When Randy discovers the DVD player in Greg's bedroom he opens the tray and we get a close up of a white, blank DVD, but a red, titled DVD (see Trivia) is in the tray that is shown opening and closing repeatedly after the accident.
Continuity: After Elmo shows up with a shotgun, he racks (to chamber a round) it twice without it expelling a round after the second rack.
Continuity: When Randy and Jewel arrive at Randy's house for first time, gate is closed. In next shot its open and following shot its closed again.
Errors in geography: John Goodman's character in the movie states that he is working with the St. Louis, Missouri police department and other references in the movie suggest that location also, however when Matt Dillion steals an SUV in the last scenes, the car has three surfboards attached to the rack on top of the vehicle. (At best, the closest place to surf is 300 miles away on Lake Michigan - unlikely, or slightly more likely 650 miles away on the Gulf of Mexico, or most likely more than 900 miles away at Virginia Beach, Va).
