The distinctive "boing" sound made by the dining room door is exactly the same as the sound of the dining room door in Mr Hulot's Holiday (_Vacances de M. Hulot, Les (1953)_)
The scene in which Ritchie yanks Eddie's head back with a hook up his nose was shot with the action in reverse, then played backwards in the final cut. To achieve this, Adrian Edmondson learned to phonetically pronounce the phrase "Excuse me one moment" backwards.
This was Simon Pegg's first feature film appearance.
In the original promotional campaign for Guest House Paradiso's cinema release Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson explicitly stated that it was "not Bottom" (hence the name differences and other inconsistencies with series in the movie) but they also said that they have pretty much always played the same characters for years ("The Young Ones" (1982), "Filthy Rich & Catflap" (1987), and "Bottom" (1991)) and this was just a new set. Perhaps the films not-so-stratospheric box office success caused the studio to add "The Bottom Movie" on its video release.
Those paying close attention would have noticed that the neighboring power station is a subtle rude joke. The smoking tower and the two domes below are amusingly shaped to resemble a penis and testicles.
The timed light switch never lasts the same amount of time. The shortest time is 10 seconds whereas the longest time is 27 seconds.
