Dolly Parton honored Tom Petty with a gorgeous cover of his 1985 song, “Southern Accents,” which will appear on the upcoming tribute compilation Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
“Southern Accents” is a tender ballad about Southern roots and a down-on-his luck Florida orange-picker. Parton stays faithful to the original, adding her own country twang, and juicing the poignancy further with a music video filled with old archival footage of Petty.
“I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” Parton said in a statement.

Dolly Parton has revealed her reimagined rendition of Tom Petty’s song “Southern Accents” for the forthcoming compilation, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
The song features a prologue delivered by the late Tom Petty himself describing how the moment of inspiration that led to “Southern Accents.” Dolly Parton then provides an emotional, stirring rendition of the song, kept at the same balladeer tempo as Petty’s original. She retains much of the song, though she adds a crucial change to the song’s latter third when belting “Yes I’m proud to be what I am/ A southern girl from a southern town/ I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed.”

Doja Cat and Sza won big at the Grammys on April 3, taking home the award for best pop duo/group performance for their song "Kiss Me More." During their acceptance speech, Doja Cat got emotional about her first-ever Grammy win.
After the award was announced, Sza made her way to the stage on crutches (with some help from Lady Gaga), but Doja still made it to the mic after her. It turns out, Doja had decided to go to the bathroom right before the award was announced and had to hurry back to accept it. "I have never taken such a fast piss in my whole life," she said as she fixed her dress, a little out of breath.
"I really appreciate it," she continued. "Thank you to everybody, my family, my team, I wouldn't be here without you and I wouldn't be here without my fans.

"Girl, don't make my cry," Saweetie, nominated in the Best New Artist category, said while fighting back tears. "I didn't know it would happen this quick." Not to mention, the 28-year-old is the only female rapper up for the award. Plus, she was up for Best Rap Song thanks to her "Best Friend" collaboration with Doja Cat. (The award ultimately went to Kanye West and Jay-Z for Jail.) "She's amazing, she looks good, she raps bomb and I just love her,"...

For many music fans and insiders, critiquing the Grammy nominations is an annual pastime. And each year, the Academy seems to find new and interesting ways to wind up observers. When the 2021 nominations dropped last year, the main knock was a complete shutout for the Weeknd. This time around, the issues are a little more complex. There are some noteworthy omissions among the 2022 field — no women in any of the rock categories; no Spanish-language or West African artists in any of the majors — but more concerning than who was left out is who was included.

“Need to Know” boasts a crisp beat of booming bass hits, sharp drums, and atmospheric synths over which Doja Cat spits a pair of verses that lean into delightfully lurid punchlines (“Sorry if I gave a random erection/Prolly thinking I’m a telekinetic”). The track also arrives with a futuristic music video that finds Doja Cat donning full alien gear and enjoying a night on the town in a space-age club.

Several new films at this year’s Florence Korea Film Fest set their stories in the past. This is also the case for Lee Hwang-Kyungs dramedy “Best Friend”. He deals with the tense and oppressive political climate of the 1980s and president Park’s regime.
“Best Friend” is screening at the Florence Korea Film Fest
Ui-Sik comes back to Korea from his exile in the USA to announce his candidature to the presidential election. The political party in power wants to prevent him. Ui-sik is set under house arrest for being a communist and therefore a threat to security of the country. In order to be up to date on his intentions and actions, a troupe has to observe him. Head of the observation team is Dae-Kwon, a fervent anti-communist and so the perfect fit for the job. His co-workers are a bit less disciplined, however. And so the plan to work undetected fails.

Saweetie has released a new video for “Risky,” featuring Drakeo the Ruler. The track appears on the rapper’s new release, Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1.
“Risky” finds Saweetie riding a bouncy, bass-driven beat with playful ease — “I’m Mrs. Untouchable, I’m like a Lunchable/Play like it’s all fun and games ’til I’m done with you” — while Drakeo lets his delightfully off-kilter flow wobble in and out of the song’s deep pocket. Doja Cat donned an alien cyborg outfit for her performance of a remixed “Say So” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
Doja Cat and her dancers themed themselves after aliens coming down from another planet, surrounded by blue laser lights. (Doja’s dancers also, appropriately, wore cat ears on top of their Covid-safe helmets and face shields.)

The Grammy Award for Best New Artist is a push from the industry for their favorite up-and-coming musicians making waves. While some past winners have admittedly faded away, a lot went on to become decade-defining or even generation-defining artists, like The Beatles (1965), Mariah Carey (1991) and Adele (2009). Let’s see who’s in line this year to join this list of influential winners.
Seea tale of two Taylors: Two generations of singer-songwriters could win Grammys for Best Pop Album
One of the front-runners here is definitely rapper and internet sensation Megan Thee Stallion. Megan notched two number-one hits in 2020, including the three-time Grammy-nominated song “Savage” with Beyoncé. Not only that, but her debut studio album “Good News” debuted at number-two on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming her third top-10 effort after her mixtape “Fever” (2019) and EP “Suga” (2020). Megan has also received acclaim for her confident lyrics and music, with “Wap” and...

Saweetie and Doja Cat call out misogyny and celebrate camaraderie in the new video for “Best Friend.” The song drops ahead of Saweetie’s Pretty Bitch Music, which is slated to arrive this spring.
The club-ready track opens on the pair lounging poolside as a guy proceeds to hit on them. They subliminally communicate with one another about misogyny and virtue signaling. Later, they celebrate friendship, taking a ride in a bejeweled luxury car, hitting the strip club, have a slumber party and more in the colorful Dave Meyers-directed clip.

Cinemas in Korea are trying to adapt to new straitened circumstances as the autumn box office recovery peters out. The Korean market, in normal years the world’s fourth largest theatrical territory, saw aggregate revenues of just $1.44 million over the weekend, according to data from the Korean Film Council’s Kobis service.
The top of the chart was a rerun of the previous weekend, with Korean “Best Friend” taking top place, ahead of local adventure drama “Collectors” and U.S. mystery thriller “Run.” But numbers were down in each case. “Best Friend” grossed $526,000, down from $1.03 million in its opening, for a $2.60 million cumulative. “Collectors” earned just $221,000 for a cumulative of $12.0 million. “Run” has $1.99 million earned since Nov. 20.
Weekend numbers dropped for the fourth frame in succession as audiences react to Korea’s coronavirus undulations and film releases dry up. Previous weekends had been worth $2.29 million, $3.77 million and $4.98 million.
Nationwide grosses in November fell to $29.7 million,...

Even their name is cute. Porgs — teensy, tiny, and be-feathered — are the latest creature to enter the sprawling sci-fi “Star Wars” universe, though we can only hope they prove to be as charming as Bb-8, and less like Jar Jar Binks. Inspired by the real-life inhabitants of a crucial location from this year’s upcoming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the new animals instantly captured hearts after being introduced with not much in the way of fanfare.
Lovingly created by “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson himself, the months since they were first introduced to the Star Wars faithful have only increased demand to know still more about the screaming sea birds and their place in the mythos.
