- Kata: Together, Ana and I, are not afraid of anything. Our homies think we're locos for the things we do. We're living the life.
- Kata: Pocho's the leader of Ninth Street, he thinks he's the baddest cholo in L.A county. He always tries to act all hard. Some girls think this makes him more of a man but I know Pocho's real story.
- Pocho: I heard what you done tonight. You're getting a big reputation. You and Kata. Maybe one day you'll be as big as me.
- Kata: Maybe we already are.
- Kata: My grandfather was a shaman, a curandero with big magic. Then we moved to L.A and my family went from being near gods to just cholos.
- Kikicho: [after telling Kata he won't get her pregnant] You always told me you were running from that kind of life. You wanted something better.
- Kata: I changed my mind. I'll be different than my mother I'll be better, I promise.
- Kikicho: I'm getting out Kata. I'm going to be one of those gang-prevention guys that talk in schools. Homies don't listen to anyone but homies, so maybe they'll listen to me. Maggie's doing it with me.
- Kata: Maggie? You and her?
- [gets off his lap]
- Kata: And I came here like some fool chavala asking you to get me pregnant. How did this happen?
- Kikicho: We started talking, the day you left me at the field.
- Kata: [after a pause] Maggie's good.
- Pocho: [to the girl taking the easy way in] You made the right choice linda.
- Kata: [to Pocho] It's low what you're gonna do to her.
- Pocho: It's her choice.
- Kata: [to the girl] You think these guys will be your friends, that they'll protect you? You do this now and sex is all they'll ever want from you! Don't do it.
- Pocho: [to the girl] We'll protect you fine.
- [to Kata]
- Pocho: Don't disrespect your brother.
- Kata: You're not my brother.
- Guy on bus: [after seeing Ana and Kata get on in full dance outfit] Oye you want some of my chile?
- Maggie: We've got the heart but not the moves to beat those fourth street bitches.
- Kata: You knew Raul wasn't the guy that capped Ana.
- Pocho: I knew. But Ana, she never let me touch her and then she goes off with some other guy, from another neighbourhood! I wanted to kill him when I found out.
- Kata: Then you should have shot him yourself you shouldn't have used me.
- Pocho: I know. But if I did it, everyone would know that he had been with Ana and I was jealous. If you did, people would think he killed her. I wanted the secret to die with him.
- Kata: Every night, I see more descansos by my house. My neighbourhood's a war zone. We fight over everything, even crumbling cement streets that don't even belong to us. The mothers make a human wall between the neighbourhoods, trying to stop the killings. My mother wasn't one of them.
