  • Continuity: In the beginning of the movie, Tom is getting his little boy out of the bathtub. He sticks the towel down into the water to grab the boy, but when he brings the boy out and is drying him off, the towel is mysteriously dry.

  • Factual errors: When Tom is using the lineman's handset on the telephone pole, the leads pull out of the box while he is talking. This would have ended the call.

  • Continuity: The number of Tom and Maggie's house changes during the flashbacks.

  • Continuity: When Tom is digging, his hands are dirty. When he starts arguing with his wife and waving his hands around, they are clean.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When the mother and son are walking to the cemetery, you can see the camera and lighting equipment reflected a couple of times on cars that drive past between the camera and the actors.

  • Factual errors: Digging in the basement he uses an air compressor when, the Jack-Hammer is an electric model.

  • Continuity: When Tom reaches into the fridge for a carton of juice he accidentally knocks over a bottle of mustard. In the reverse shot, the mustard is neatly tucked away behind another jar.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Lisa tells Maggie the baby she is expecting will be a Gemini, and that "Einstein was a Gemini". In fact, Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, making him a Pisces.

  • Continuity: When Tom is arguing with Maggie in the back yard, a piece of dirt on Tom's shoulder appears and disappears from scene to scene.

  • Continuity: When Tom breaks the window with a stone a Virgin Mary statue is visible behind it. The glass falls to pieces and the statue collapses to the floor. When the camera comes back to the window, Virgin Mary is still standing there, behind the broken window, as nothing has happened.

  • Plot holes: A flashback that details a key event in the film shows the house vacant and in relative disrepair. A character later claims the incident depicted occurred six months prior, which is highly unlikely given the house is renovated completely and apparently has been inhabited considerably longer than that.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Kevin Bacon's character is digging in the back yard and has to move the water hose, he turns the faucet in the on direction and then unhooks it. When he moves it to the other faucet, he turns the faucet in the off direction then tries to turn it on.
