Disney’s A Christmas Carol Movie Review

7 November 2009 9:40 AM, PST | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

One of the things you really have to ask yourself at the outset is, "Why do people keep remaking Charles Dickens' story?" The easy answer is that we need a decent helping of holiday fare at the theaters, but there are other things we could do, and even redo. It may still be a ways off, but we're quickly gaining on the 200th Anniversary of this story... surely there are other tales we could explore. While spitting out a movie just to cash in is never a motive that should be overlooked, the people behind the thirty-odd versions of this particular story don't seem as a general rule to be those sorts of people. On the other hand, Robert Zemeckis is one of the first names that might pop into my mind when working out a list of those capable of churning out nonsense based largely on the idea »

Roger Rabbit 2: Two-Dimensional Toons & CGI Humans?

5 November 2009 12:57 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Don’t act like you’re surprised. You knew this announcement was coming from the moment we first heard that director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) was making a sequel to his 1988 smash hit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It was just a matter of time, really. With three Mocap (that’s the new slang for “motion-capture”, Fyi) films already under his belt – Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol – it was a natural leap of thought to assume Zemeckis would use his favorite new toy in a Roger Rabbit sequel.

However, it appears that the Toon characters (Roger, Jessica, Benny the Cab) will not be the ones making the leap into the 21st century. According to his interview with MTV, Zemeckis doesn’t plan on using Mocap for those characters, just the human ones (as if that makes it any better). Read what he had to say below:

The Top Grossing Supernatural Films of All Time Are...

19 October 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

An interesting assessment courtesy of the Box Office Mojo team. While looking into the top grossing horror films (it's the Halloween season, time to step back and look at the genre's success), Bom posted on their homepage a list of the top grossing supernatural films of all time and thought it was worthy enough to share. Many that ranked in the top ten were released in the last decade (thanks to a rise in ticket price). Quality-wise, only three here would land in my "best supernatural flick" top ten whereas the others... Damn, The Haunting remake shouldn't have made as much as it did. 1.) What Lies Beneath (2000) $155,464,351 2.) The Blair Witch Project (1999) $140,539,099 3.) The Ring (2002) $129,128,133 4.) The Grudge (2004) $110,359,362 5.) The »

When’s the last time Harrison Ford has had a hit. I say Indiana Jones doesn’t count because that’s more of a branding or event than actually getting to see Ford act. Here’s the answer … It’s been almost a decade. What Lies Beneath with Michelle Pfeiffer. Here comes a play on words sure to annoy all … Maybe it’s an extraordinary measure to expect Ford to hit it big at the box office withouth the whip. We’ll find out in January.

Here’s the official news release …

CBS Films announced Monday that due to an overwhelmingly positive response from test audiences, they are moving up the release date for ‘Extraordinary Measures’ from spring to January 22, 2010, making the film the studio’s first release. The movie, starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, was the studio’s first feature to go into production. »

Making of Breaking Benjamin's 'I Will Not Bow' Music Video

18 September 2009 11:34 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

The music video for Breaking Benjamin's new single "I Will Not Bow" had been made public in August, and now the band streamed a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video. Nearly four minutes long, the on-set video is posted on the band's MySpace and exposes the shooting of the band rocking out in World Trade Center building 7.

The video also features the band sitting down and addressing issues from "I Will Not Bow" being chosen as a theme song for "Surrogates" to working on their fourth studio album, "Dear Agony", with producer David Bendeth. When talking about "Surrogates", frontman Benjamin Burnley admits that he could make good use of a surrogate.

"I Will Not Bow" is not only picked up as a soundtrack for "Surrogates", but also chosen as the lead single off the band's upcoming fourth studio effort. The album is set to arrive in the U. »

Is Zemeckis’ Christmas Carol A Horror Film?

26 July 2009 8:19 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Here’s an interesting piece of news for you to ponder. While the rest of Hollywood TV and movie studios are out promoting their upcoming projects at Comic Con, Robert Zemeckis is there to clarify some things about his latest upcoming project, A Christmas Carol.  Apparently Zemeckis wants us to know that his version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is a “classic ghost story”.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Thursday, and verified at the Disney 3D comic Con panel by our own writer Rob Keyes, Zemickis said he thought people might get the wrong idea about A Christmas Carol because it is being released by Disney.

“…,this is a movie for real movie fans, and real ghost-story fans and fans of graphic novels.”

I personally find this information puzzling. It doesn’t make that much sense to me that he is going all ghost-story with Dickens’ classic tale of family, »

No Bolly Ben Button?

10 April 2009 3:12 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Was the world dangerously close to getting a withered Benjamin Button suddenly bursting into a full-blown Bollywood dance number? Although Bollywood has developed a notorious habit of liberally borrowing/plagiarizing movie concepts from Hollywood and elsewhere (Reservoir Dogs, Oldboy, Hitch, What Lies Beneath, 21, Analyze This, The Sixth Sense, Memento, The 40 Year Old Virgin, My Sassy Girl, etc.), Warner Bros. has fired a warning shot to prevent a potential Indian musical rip of The Curious »

Top Ten: After Kate Winslet, Who?

4 March 2009 10:48 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Kate Winslet finally won her Oscar, delighting the bulk of fans who have been rooting for her since she dreamt of Hollywood in '94 -- 'they're desperately keen to sign me up!' -- or nearly drowned in '97. She never let go. So, who is next?

Or rather... who is most overdue?

Contrary to popular belief, it ain't easy to win an Oscar. It certainly wasn't easy for Kate the Great. You need more than an accent, a disability, a good or popular movie, old age makeup or mimicry skills. You also need star charisma, a role that compliments or complicates that charisma and media support. Above all else you need luck combined with surgically precise good timing. History is full of performers who never won the movie's top prize despite plentiful contributions to the art of acting.

For the following list I'm ignoring outstanding performers who have never »

Diablo Cody’s Acting Career To Kick Off With 90210

14 January 2009 2:19 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The United States of Tara is Diablo Cody’s new TV show, launching this Sunday on Showtime - but if you’re imapatient, the premiere epsiode is already streaming from the series’ official site, though if you’re anything like me (in all respects but geographical location) you’ll also tune in on Sunday so that you can watch with live Twitter accompaniment from Ms. Cody herself.  The show was apparently conceived by Steven Spielberg - which is what was said about What Lies Beneath, too if you remember. According to that film’s co-scriptwriter Clark Gregg in the Creative Screenwriting podcast, however, Spielberg’s contribution there amounted to “it’s about, you know, a couple they have a house and maybe it’s an old house and maybe there’s a ghost in the house and at first they think it’s the ghost of somebody from a long »

When is Chéri Coming Out?

8 January 2009 2:30 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

If you're a Pfanatic like me you're probably anxious for any news of Michelle Pfeiffer's first truly exciting lead role in a decade (the last drama she herself carried was the hit thriller What Lies Beneath in 2000). Making Chéri even more special is that it's a romantic costume drama and she hasn't done one of those since Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence (1993).

Chéri, which briefly flirted with the idea of coming out in December 2008 along with 97 other movies, is now set for a UK release in March...much less crowded there. First release date announcements rarely hold so it probably doesn't mean much aside from the obvious, that the film is moving out of post-production and into the marketing/release/planning stage.

Us bred Oscar watchers may blanch at the the notion of a spring release from the reunited Dangerous Liaisons team. Spring is no good for Oscar goes the groupthink. »
