Entertainment Weekly has today unveiled our first official look at season 2 of Luke Cage and with it, Misty Knight’s bionic arm.
In what may be considered a slight spoiler for The Defenders, below you’ll see Simone Missick’s daughter of the dragon standing alongside Harlem’s Hero For Hire (Mike Colter) replete with her prosthetic arm, which was given to her following that stomach-churning clash between Misty and Ramón Rodríguez’s big bad, Bakuto. He’s one of the high-profile members of the Hand, a Hydra-like organization that has extended its tentacles of corruption into every major corporation in New York City, beginning with Midland Circle.
As those who’ve already caught all eight episodes of The Defenders will know, Misty Knight’s arc in the Marvel/Netflix ensemble series ends with her in hospital. Flanked by Danny Rand (Finn Jones) and his kick-ass ally Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick...

Spring already? Well, okay, but I look out the window and see ten inches of snow. (And you may now imagine me sniffing and grumbling.) But, alas, just because I may not happen to like it, this spring bushwa, doesn’t mean anything surprising is about to happen. I can’t help noticing that the universe seldom alters its plan to accommodate my preferences. Rotten, but there you are,
So I guess we make the best of it, which is what we grumbling homo saps have always done, more or less, when we’ve gotten our grumbling out of the way. (First things first.) Okay, anything interesting on the immediate agenda? Ummmm – nope. But before I offer a tepid correction to that last sentence (if sentence is what it was) let me call your attention to an entertainment that lurks in the shadows of Thursday night. The unbreakable Luke Cage has a weakness in episode 8 of the Marvel Netflix series. Here are our viewing notes...
Luke Cage is back! In his own show! And so are our Marvel-Netflix episode notes where we’ll do a bit of commentary and reference-spotting for each episode of the series. Feel free to read along as you watch too, but please don’t spoil future episodes for anyone in the comments!
This episode reveals that the guy shooting at Luke is Willis Stryker, a man Luke recognises as his childhood friend. He’s also Diamondback, the crook who funded Stokes and who Shades has been reporting to. Depending on your perspective it’s him, not Stokes, who is the series’ main villain.
None of that is much use to Cage, of course, who spends most of this episode limping around with a couple of bullet wounds that...

It doubtless comes as little surprise to anyone that Quentin Tarantino is big on Luke Cage. Marvel’s answer to John Shaft—introduced in his own Hero For Hire series in 1972—would seem to land dead center of the Venn diagram of the filmmaker’s interests. What is somewhat shocking, though, is the news that Tarantino considered adapting the comic book character for the screen in the early ’90s. And as cool as that certainly would have been, it would likely have meant the non-existence of a kind of important film.
“I’m a huge fan,” Tarantino told Yahoo last year during a press junket for The Hateful Eight. “I had even considered, after Reservoir Dogs, doing a Luke Cage movie. But I ended up doing Pulp Fiction instead. So I think I might have made the right choice.”

This Friday, Netflix debuts the new show from Marvel, Luke Cage. With that, I wanted to check out the origin of the character. He’d always been someone who fascinated me but his origins were always clouded in a bit of a mystery. He wasn’t exactly a character on the level of Spider-Man that would constantly get the origin story retold.
We can thank the creation of Luke Cage on a little phenomenon called Blaxploitation films. Take a movie like Shaft. It showed Hollywood that one, there was a market for films directed at African American audiences and two, it was one of the first times we had African Americans of any sort starring in films where they were the strong, dominant leads.

Our Us chums took a close look at Marvel's Luke Cage trailer looking for bits of Marvel Comics history and clues about the show's future!
After that cool Sdcc teaser, Marvel's Luke Cage Netflix series finally unveiled a full length trailer to give everyone a better idea of what's in store when it arrives in September.
Here it is in case you haven't seen it yet:
Video of Luke Cage - Main Trailer - Only on Netflix September 30 [HD]
Please note, that I'm not going in order or frame by frame to describe stuff that you're seeing. This is mostly in any order that makes sense to me.
Also, the song that plays over roughly the first half of this trailer is "Walk on By" from Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul album. There is honestly not a better album you could spend the rest of your day listening to.

This weekend came word that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has opted out of starring in and directing New Line's live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed "Sandman" comic series.
Gordon-Levitt released a statement online just hours after word broke of the project hiring scribe Eric Heisserer to tackle a new draft of the script. Now, Gaiman himself has responded to Levitt's decision and answered a some fan questions online:
"Reminder for the curious: I don't own 'Sandman', DC Comics does. I don't choose who writes scripts, the director, producer or cast. The deal was done when I was 26, long ago, & I figured it was worth it.
He's an original character, created by me, Mike Dringenberg & Sam Kieth, but done as Work For Hire for DC Comics. For me, what's important is the 2,500 pages of 'Sandman', not a movie that may or may not ever happen.
For the record, my respect for Gordon-Levitt,...

Still doing it his way: Sayles today.

The interview was set for 10:30 Am. Usually they run a few minutes late as the celebrity works his way through a call list. When the moment arrives an assistant handles the intros. Not this time. At precisely 10:30:00, the phone rang and iconic Indie filmmaker John Sayles introduced himself. And why not? A no-nonsense, get- it -done type of auteur, Sayles handles his own publicity calls and was keen to discuss his remarkable and varied career in advance of a weekend retrospective at La’s Cinefamily February 18 - 20.
Sayles broke into the business, like so many before him, by working with genre legend Roger Corman who figuratively and literally wrote the book on low budget filmmaking. “I got very lucky, didn’t realize it at the time, “Sayles recalls. “I wrote three screenplays (Piranha, The Lady in Red...

Fans have been dying know which actor will be suiting up as Danny Rand in Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist series, and it seems we're only an official announcement away from finding out. Because we never got word of any shortlist, or even a solid casting rumor, it was assumed that the studio was still searching for someone to step into the role - but not according to Luke Cage himself, Mike Colter. During an interview with Collider, the Jessica Jones actor eas asked if he was exited about future scenes between his character and fellow Hero For Hire Iron Fist, and here's what he said. "The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere. When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is. I am [excited]. I’ll get a nice little break, after doing Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

Our Jessica Jones episode-by-episode viewing notes reach the finale, Aka Smile, which delivers a mixed bag for fans of the comics...
Marvel's Jessica Jones is available to view now on Netflix, and as with Daredevil we'll be providing (mostly) daily episode-by-episode coverage for those who want to follow it with us. Each instalment of these viewing notes will look at how the show's plot, characters and story relate to the comic source material, providing background information and pointers for those who want to know more.
Please note that while we might occasionally reveal the way plots developed in the comics, we are trying to be sensitive to any surprises the TV show may have in store. These notes are written immediately after the episode is watched, so any speculation about the way the story may go is purely that!
All we ask is that if you've seen future episodes that confirm,...

Of course Mike Colter has been snapped on the set of Jessica Jones in the past so this isn’t our first glimpse of him as Luke Cage, but it is our first idea of how he’ll appear as the character in his own show.
The images above were taken on the set of Marvel and Netfix’s third TV project, and though not terribly exciting, they do feature Power Man sharing a quieter moment with an older gentleman outside a barbershop – and the last pic reveals what Mr. Cage will be doing for money when we catch up with him next year.
Sweeping up outside a barbershop is not exactly fitting work for a superhero, but if the show’s official synopsis is anything to go by, Cage is going to be on the wrong side of the law before becoming the “Hero For Hire...

At some point Luke Cage will most likely become a "Hero For Hire", but jobs for ex-cons ain't that easy to come by so in the meantime he'll have to take what he can get. This new batch of set images show Mike Colter as the titular Power Man, sitting outside a barbershop with who we assume is the owner. The final pic also sees Cage sweeping up outside the place, so this is presumably before he gets mixed up in whatever villainous deeds the likes of Cornell Cottonmouth and his associates are planning. After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city--forcing him to confront a past...

For the conclusion of Diamond Comic Distributors Retailer Summit and for the opening of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum’s new exhibit 75 Spirited Years: Will Eisner and The Spirit on Friday, September 25, 2015 – four top creators were asked to provide their interpretations of a concept sketch that had been created by Eisner but never before finished.
One of those creators was Mark Wheatley, the Inkpot, Mucker, Gem, Speakeasy, and Eisner award-winning writer-artist perhaps best known for his successful and often cutting-edge collaborations with fellow writer-artist Marc Hempel. Wheatley will see his piece based on Eisner’s sketch featured on the cover of a limited edition of Overstreet’s Comic Book Marketplace Yearbook 2015-2016. This version will be given to retailers who attend the closing party for the Retailer Summit, which is also the official kick-off of the Eisner exhibit.
“I’m thrilled to have been asked to posthumously collaborate with Will Eisner on this project.

The cast is slowly coming together for Marvel's Luke Cage series. It includes Simone Missick, who could well be playing Misty Knight...
Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage series seems a long way off, not least because Jessica Jones - the next team-up between the studio and the streaming service - hasn't even reached our screens yet. However, that hasn't stopped the powers-that-be from releasing some casting information for Luke Cage's show.
The most interesting of these announcements is the addition of Simone Missick - previously seen in Black Card, Everything I Did Wrong In My 20s and A Taste Of Romance - to the cast. According to Marvel, she'll play Missy, "a woman with a strong sense of justice."
Deadline have been quick to report that she's actually playing Misty Knight. This has been echoed on Missick's IMDb page.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 won’t be released for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 on the same date as the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version, Activision has announced.
As is becoming the norm, it seems, last-gen versions of cross-generation titles are receiving less and less precedence over current ones. It does make sense, after all. The Xbox One and PS4 are now the primary console platforms, and while Activision haven’t stated whether the development of the last-gen version of Tony Hawk will be outsourced to another studio – it wouldn’t come as any surprise if it has.
The current-gen version is still on course for an October 2 release, with the 360 and PS3 versions following a month later in November.
In addition to the above news, Activision have also released the entire track list that’ll you be listening to while skating and grinding your way around town. Check it...

‘Boyhood’, ‘Grand Budapest’, ‘Lego Movie’ Score Big At 65th Ace Eddie Awards — Complete Winners List
Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel took the respective top prizes for drama and comedy tonight at the 65th American Cinema Editors Awards. Oscar snubee The Lego Movie continued to rack up awards-season wins, scoring the trophy for Best Edited Animated Feature Film, while Citizenfour added the Ace Eddie to its winning streak for documentary feature.
The ceremony, hosted by 24 actress Mary Lynn Rajskub at the Beverly Hilton, saw Grand Budapest check in with the upset win over Birdman, which was edited to look like it was shot in a single take and came into the Ace Eddies with strong momentum, having won top honors at both the PGAs and the SAG Awards last weekend. Mike Colter of The Good Wife has been cast as Luke Cage in the upcoming comic book adaptation of Jessica Jones from Marvel and Netflix. Colter’s character, who first appeared in the June 1972 edition of Hero For Hire, will show up in the series and change the life of Jones (to be played by Krysten Ritter) in dramatic ways. As comic fans know best, Cage possesses superhuman strength, heals fast and excels in hand-to-hand combat. “Fans have longed to see Luke Cage … and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television. “Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Daredevil, Preacher, Supergirl... Lost track of the zillions of comic book shows to grace our televisions from 2015? Here's our cheat sheet.
It’s a wonderful time to be a TV-binging comic book fan. In fact, if you were a little tactical about your viewing habits (and not too fussy in your Marvel/DC preference), we’re approaching a state where you could probably fill an ‘all the soap operas’ shaped hole in your schedule every day with the stuff of capes, cowls and crime-fighting.
Of course, we already have Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, The Walking Dead and – for now – Constantine gracing our schedules. Of those, Arrow, The Flash and The Walking Dead have already been picked up for further seasons, as well. With the exception of Constantine, we wouldn’t be too surprised to hear the rest renewed too.
The fun doesn’t stop there.

Some years are just great for certain genres, and this year was a great one for action. All across the board were films within different subgenres stepping up and delivering great action set pieces and characters. Consider the shot on the revolving tank gun revealing the totality of carnage in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, or the tight line between insanity and sharp focus with the home invasion scene in The Guest, the shot of Chris Evans plowing through several baddies with an axe in slow motion during Snowpiercer, watching Keanu Reeves dispatching thugs with slick gun-fu in John Wick, or literally any scene from the action opera The Raid 2. Take all that together in the same year (!!!!) and it’s clear to see we’ve been spoiled.
But all that aside, only one person can take the title of 2014’s Action Hero. Action Heroes are like Highlanders,...

The 'Wedding Ringer' stars talk about working together back stage at 'DWTS'.
On Monday night's episode of Dancing With The Stars, comedian Kevin Hart was serving as a guest judge, sitting in for regular judge Len Goodman.
However, the bombastic funnyman wasn't content with just judging dancers, he needed to get some dancing done of his own. And to help, he brought in Broadway star – and voice of Frozen's Olaf – Josh Gad to do a tuxedo-clad hand jive.

However, before the show, Hart and Gad, who co-star in the upcoming romantic comedy The Wedding Ringer, stopped to talk to Et's Kevin Frazier about the amount of rehearsal time their routine took to master, and soon the conversation drifted towards Hart demonstrating his musical talents.
Specifically, he sang a few lines from a play he supposedly starred in called "Pistol Pete". The...

During a recent Ama Reddit, Idris Elba set straight a couple of casting rumours. It turns out that despite being considered a definite part of the project, he will not be appearing in Guy Ritchie’s next film, Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur.
Set to have been joining the re-imagining of the classic tale as a new-fangled Merlin, he dismissed the rumours. While it’s a bit of a letdown, here’s what he had to say:
“Unfortunately I’m not in the ‘King Arthur’ movies. That was a rumor, that wasn’t true unfortunately. But I wish the guys a lot of success.”
By the guys, he’s referring to director Ritchie and his two leading stars. Sons Of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam has signed on to play the titular King, with French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey joining him at his side as Guinevere.

Aimee Richardson, who played Princess Myrcella on the first two seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, wants people to know she’s now a “Princess For Hire.”
Aimee Richardson Is Princess For Hire
Richardson, 16, had assumed that she’d be back in the role of Myrcella for Game of Throne’s fifth season. As the second oldest Baratheon child – that was actually born of the incest between her mother Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Cersei's twin brother Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) – Myrcella stood to be crowned queen following Joffrey’s (Jack Gleeson) death at The Purple Wedding.
Following The Purple Wedding episode, Richardson took to Vine, placing a crown upon her head and saying, “I’m ready.”
Unfortunately for Richardson, Game of Thrones producers announced at Comic-Con that Nell Tiger Free would be replacing her in the role of Myrcella for the upcoming season. Once again taking to Vine, Richardson...

The 'new era' of Call of Duty will be officially revealed this Sunday...
The next instalment of Call of Duty is coming soon, and on May 4 we'll find out exactly what it's going to be. Ahead of this announcement, Activision has issued a teaser, 'Superpower For Hire', that focuses on the rise of PMCs in the real world, and the worry of where this military for hire approach will go.
It's a good bet, then, that the new Call of Duty will involve PMCs in some capacity, but whether we'll be playing as these hired guns, or fighting against them remains to be seen. We suspect at some point these PMCs will be a foe, hinted at strongly by the teaser's closing question “What happens if they stop taking orders, and start taking over?”
The announcement also came with a game render, and...

Exclusive: James Mangold is negotiating to direct The Deep Blue Good-By, the 1964 John D. MacDonald novel that kicked off series of mystery novels with character Travis McGee. This has long been eyed by Fox as the launch of a star-driven franchise based on the beach bum McGee, a forerunner of muscular solitary heroes like Jack Reacher and Spenser For Hire, helping (and romancing) damsels in distress as he kicks ass against the powerful. The film was originally set as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. That’s not going to happen now, as DiCaprio has plenty of work in front of him and this film, with a most recent script draft by Mystic River novelist Dennis Lehane, is certainly ready to go. DiCaprio and his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson-Killoran are producing with Amy Robinson and Chernin Entertainment. Previous script drafts were done by Dana Stevens and Kario Salem. Mangold,...

The cast of "Scandal" may be one of the most social media-savvy set of TV actors around. After the ABC series grew to a bona fide hit during its second season, thanks in part to the fervent Gladiators on Twitter spreading word about their beloved show (also because the show is, you know, Awesome), Kerry Washington and Co. began live-tweeting every episode while fans are watching.
Joining Washington for each East Coast and West Coast airing are her fellow Gladiators Scott Foley, Guillermo Diaz, Katie Lowes, Bellamy Young, Joshua Malina, Darby Stanchfield, Jeff Perry, Tony Goldwyn and Columbus Short. On Thursday (Dec. 12), recurring guest stars Dan Bucatinsky and Joe Morton joined in on the fun as well. If you're not following all of them on Twitter and following along week to week, well, you're doing it wrong.

The 2013 Emmy Award nominations will be announced bright and early tomorrow morning, which means we’ll soon have the pleasure of knowing who to root for come September and what to immediately start complaining about on Twitter. Assuming some of the performances we’ve been most fond of won’t be recognized by the Academy, here are a few of our favorite moments from the past year on the tube worthy of both industry hardware and your undying love.
Best Kiss: Nick and Jess (New Girl)
This series could very well get recognized for its strong second season–is Max Greenfield (a.k.a Schmidt) truly “crushing it” in real life, too?–but the slow build of sexual tension between roommates and sometimes-adversaries, Jess and Nick, is deserving of an award all its own. Watching this one still gives me goosebumps.

…well, actually, there are a bunch of winners.
Looking at out server logs, we see that thousands of people have looked at the hundreds of nominated comics– we’ve counted over eighty thousand outgoing clicks over the last month, which we hope have turned into hundreds of new readers for each strip. We’ve gotten reports of lots of people discovering new webcomics, and creators have been telling us of traffic spikes as people do archive runs.
Then there’s the big winner of the contest, the Hero Initiative. Thanks to you, you’ve raised almost $4000 dollars for the organization. To give you an idea of the voting, here are the not quite complete funds raised for each webcomic:

Here we go again… it’s Round 4 of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament!
Now… it starts to get brutal.
We’ve gone from over 300 webcomics down to the Sweet 16. We’ve raised over $750 for the Hero Initiative in this round alone, so far you’ve bought over $1500 in votes. Voting for this round lasts until 9Pm Edt on Wednesday, March 20, so get your votes in.
We’re now getting to the point where money is beginning to be a big influence in contests, with an additional 40% of votes purchased. It made the difference in a number of contests, making winners out of Grrl Power, Commander Kitty, Unsounded, Weregeek, and Bittersweet Candy Bowl.
But that was the last round– what are they going to do this time around? It’s all in your hands now!
Again, we’re letting you support your favorite strips by paying for additional votes, with your money going to charity.

We’ve heard your concerns about using Opinion Stage to tally our votes; specifically about needing a Facebook ID to vote. Although you can still purchase as many votes as you like, we understand that some of you don’t have Facebook IDs or don’t want them. We’re working on adding other ways to log in, like Twitter IDs, while still keeping the spammers and script kiddies at bay, and if we come up with more useful solutions we’ll add them in subsequent rounds. Here are the updated brackets for the Bradbury, Kubert, Sendak, and Washington divisions. Go and vote!

In a parallel universe, Quentin Tarantino directed a Luke Cage comic book movie, with Laurence Fishburne as the titular Hero For Hire and the film coming out at around the same Pulp Fiction did in our version of reality.Alas - or, rather, fortunately - in reality he made his narrative-bending masterpiece instead, but there was a time where Qt was definitely considering it, as he revealed to MTV.com in this video (which, annoyingly, only Us residents will be able to see).If you're from somewhere else in the world, here's a transcript of what the Django Unchained director had to say about the might-have-been Marvel adaptation:"After Reservoir Dogs, I had considered doing a Luke Cage, Hero For Hire movie. When it was first announced that Joss Whedon would be making a Marvel TV series, the Internet was a flutter with the possibilities. With ideas ranging everywhere from "Heroes For Hire" to "The Runaways," it was eventually announced that the series would be based around the shadowy organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D., which was a bit of a let down for those hoping for a "Heroes For Hire" series.
In "Heroes For Hire," Luke Cage and Iron Fist (whom we've already discussed in Assembling Avengers) dish out their own unique brand of street justice as a means of making a profit. Currently, Luke Cage is actually a highly respected figure within the Marvel universe, gaining leadership of the New Avengers after the death of Captain America.
So what are the chances that Cage will be making an appearance in the "Avengers" sequel? Click past the jump to find out!

Tonight I got into a conversation with some friends about old TV shows from the past that we really liked, and I brought up A Man Called Hawk. You remember him don't you? A brother so cool that he could literally drive a car at night with tinted windows with shades on. Now, That's one bad mutha'. For those you youngsters out there, you who don't know what I'm talking about, Hawk was a spin-off series from the ABC Network popular detective TV show Spencer For Hire.
