With its list of May 2024 releases, Amazon Prime Video is giving us the kindest gift of all: cougar Anne Hathaway.
May 2 sees the premiere of The Idea of You, a romantic-comedy that features Hathaway as a 40-year-old mom finding romance with a 24-year-old boy band singer (Nicholas Galitzine). Having saved the medium of film forever, Prime Video is celebrating with some big time library titles this month as well. American Fiction and BlacKkKlansman arrive on May 14 and will be followed by Creed and Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story on May 16.
For its TV offerings, Prime is leading off with Outer Range season 2 on May 16. This James Brolin sci-fi Western will continue the mysteries of the strange happenings on Thanos’ ranch. Reality TV fans will be able to enjoy the Daniel Tosh-hosted competition series The Goat on May 9.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

The jury system can by trying, but “Jury Duty” — a doc-style comedy series coming to Freevee on April 7 — examines it through the eyes of one juror. The catch: The actual juror, Ronald Gladden, doesn’t realize the case is fake and everyone else is an actor. All the crazy machinations inside the courtroom are planned, and everyone is in on it, except for Gladden. Will this lone juror be able to find his way to justice despite all of the chaos surrounding the case?

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.
That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.
In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

Hey everyone! I’ve been playing catch-up on a handful of indie horror movies over the last few weeks, and here are my thoughts on two films I recently had the opportunity to watch—Benny Loves You from Karl Holt and Ryan Kruger’s Fried Barry.
Benny Loves You: When I first read the initial premise of Benny Loves You—a man’s childhood toy becomes sentient and embarks on a killing spree—I knew I was absolutely all in for this wacky little movie, and it didn’t disappoint. Brimming with ambition, ingenuity, and heaps of slash-tastic fun, Benny Loves You feels exactly like the type of movie I would have made with my toys back as a horror youngin, but writer/director/star Karl Holt does a much better job than I ever could have dreamt up, resulting in a wickedly funny horror comedy that also has...

Castlevania is coming to an end at Netflix: The anime series will conclude with the upcoming fourth season, premiering Thursday, May 13, the streamer announced on Friday. However, our sister site Deadline reports that Netflix is eyeing a new series set in the same universe, featuring a new cast of characters.
Inspired by the classic video game, Castlevania is described as “a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself.”

Warner Bros just announced two new films starring children’s characters rooted in the mid-20th century. The studio said today that it has dated untitled Sesame Street and Tom & Jerry movies for release in two years.
The live-action Sesame Street musical is set for January 15, 2021, and starts shooting in July with MGM co-financing with WB. The hybrid T&J, directed by Tim Story, will arrive three months later on April 16.
Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel is set to direct the family musical with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy producing with Entertainment 360’s Michael Aguilar. Anne Hathaway is reportedly on board for the revival which would bring Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Elmo and other denizens of Sesame Street to the big screen for the first time in this century.

Through the past 47 years on television, Sesame Street has been one of our most enduring cultural touchstones, as generations of children have learned letters, numbers, sharing, and cooperation at the feet of Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Elmo. So a leap to the big screen is such a natural idea, it’s surprising it’s only happened twice, with 1985’s Follow That Bird, and 1999’s The Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland.
But keeping to Sesame Workshop’s roughly-every-15-years schedule, a return to the big screen is in the works. Deadline reports that Warner Bros., whose sister company HBO now airs Sesame Street before passing episodes to PBS for a second run, has hired David Guion and Michael Handelman, the screenwriting duo behind Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb, Dinner For Schmucks, and the Zach Braff vehicle The Ex.

Warner Bros. has started developing a new Sesame Street movie with Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, and they've hired David Guion and Michael Handelman to write the script. The two writers have previously worked on films such as the adventure comedy Night at The Museum: Secret of the Tomb and the Steve Carrell comedy Dinner for Schmucks.
According to Deadline, the writers will "start with a treatment as the studio finds a handle for a narrative family film based on the 47-year-old show that has been redone by WB’s sister company, HBO."
So, they aren't sure what exactly this Sesame Street movie will be yet, but I'm sure they'll figure out something good that respects what the series is. I'm curious to see what they end up coming up with. Sesame Street is one of the most beloved children shows ever, and the characters in it are iconic. This...

Comedian tipped to star alongside Kermit, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear in follow-up to 2011 Muppets film
Ricky Gervais is in talks to take the lead role in the forthcoming Muppets sequel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
While his role is being kept under wraps, it is said to be on a par with the one played by Jason Segel in last year's The Muppets. The next outing for Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear et al will be set in Europe. It will be Gervais's first leading film role since 2009's The Invention of Lying and is not his first time hanging out with The Muppets – he made a cameo appearance in the last outing that ended up on the cutting room floor.
The Muppets sequel will once again be directed by James Bobin, with Nicholas Stoller also returning as screenwriter. Segel, who co-wrote and starred in the earlier film, is...

Given that it was first launched in 1969 and is still watched by tons of children all over the world today, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to call Sesame Street one of the most iconic and enduring television series of all time. Throughout the years, characters like Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, the Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch have become staples of mornings spent raising a toddler. But over the course of the show’s lengthy history it has only made the jump from small screen to big twice. The first time was in 1985, when the whole Sesame Street crew was set to the task of tracking down a runaway and kidnapped Big Bird in Follow That Bird. The second was in 1999, when a capitalization on the explosion of the popularity of Sesame Street character Elmo was attempted with The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Neither were big hits, with...

Looks like the classic PBS kids series Sesame Street is heading to the big screen! 20th Century Fox picked up the rights to the show, and longtime show writer Joey Mazzarino has been hired to write the script.
Like many of you, I grew up watching Sesame Street. It's been on the air since 1969 and features several of our favorite characters such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Elmo, most of which were created by the great Jim Henson. It's kind of crazy to think that my kids are watching it now.
Real Steel director Shawn Levy is producing the film, but as of right now there are no story details. This won't be the first time the series was adapted for the big screen. In 1985 we had Follow That Bird and and in 1999 there was The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Those...

Following the resurgence of the Muppets franchise, you can't blame Fox for wanting to get in on the puppet game. THR reports that the studio has acquired the rights to Sesame Street and have hired show veteran Joey Mazzarino to write up a script for a full-length movie. The television series has ventured onto the big screen twice before, in 1985's Follow That Bird and 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Sunny day is sweeping the clouds away for "Sesame Street" fans.
20th Century Fox has picked up the movie rights to the beloved children's television show and has hired longtime "Street" writer, Joey Mazzarino, to pen the script according to Heat Vision.
This would not be the first big screen version of "Sesame Street." In 1985, "Follow That Bird" was released featuring John Candy, Chevy Chase, and Dave Thomas. And in 1999, "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland" was released.
Now, with the success of "The Muppets," Fox seems to think that it's the right time to bring out our favorite residents of "Sesame Street" such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
Shawn Levy ("Date Night," "Night at the Museum," "Real Steel") is attached to produce but will he direct and tell us how to get to "Sesame Street?" Stay tuned...

Shawn Levy ("Date Night," "Night at the Museum," "Real Steel") is attached to produce but will he direct and tell us how to get to "Sesame Street?" Stay tuned...

Hot off the success of the recent Muppet big screen return, Fox have announced the hiring of director Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Date Night) to adapt another kids favourite – Sesame Street.
The Sesame Street gang, which celebrated a 40th anniversary in 2009, have dabbled with movies in the past, most notably the Big Bird centric Follow that Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, but have generally taken a backseat to Kermit, Gonzo, Piggy et al. Now though they’re getting their own chance to shine and the timing could not be better.
Unless you lived in a trash can much like Oscar the Grouch, you’ll remember Sesame Street from when you were growing up, with it’s host of bizarre characters, obsession with numbers and letters and it’s fantastically catchy theme tune. "Sesame Street" celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009, so, in many ways, the fact that a movie version of the popular kids program is in the works probably shouldn't be much of a surprise. Of course, there've been individual character movies like 1985’s "Follow That Bird" and 1999’s "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland," but director Shawn Levy ("Real Steel") and his 21 Laps banner, along with fellow producers Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Film 360's Guymon Casady, want to produce an adaptation of the entire show.
Familiar to almost everyone who has ever been a child, certainly in the U.S., "Sesame Street" is a mixture of animation, short films and sketches and songs performed by a cast of puppets and guest stars, all intended to amuse and educate children while offering parents or caregivers a much-needed break from chasing their kids around the house. But just how longtime "Sesame Street...

Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch and co will make their third foray into cinemas following the success of last year's Muppets movie
Sesame Street is to follow The Muppets on to the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The long-running Us children's TV series that brought the world Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and Oscar the Grouch will make its third foray into multiplexes following 1985's Follow That Bird and 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Studio 20th Century Fox has bought the rights from the show's production company Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children's Television Workshop. The TV iteration's regular writer Joey Mazzarino will take charge of the screenplay but a director is still being sought for the project.
The long-running, partly educational series first screened in 1969 and remains hugely popular with audiences across the globe. It utilises Muppet characters created by Jim Henson, though he did not instigate the show.

Hot on the heels of the big screen return of The Muppets, some more of Jim Henson's creations are heading to the big screen again. Heat Vision has word that Shawn Levy, who is quickly becoming as busy as Steven Spielberg, is producing a new Sesame Street feature film for 20th Century Fox. Levy likely won't direct the feature, but Joey Mazzarino, a longtime writer for the show that started way back in 1969, is slated to script the film. Considering Sesame Street has always been more educational than comical, I wouldn't expect something as universally pleasing as The Muppets, but it won't pander to children learning to read. This isn't the first time Sesame Street has hit the big screen as the 1985 film Follow That Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland in 1999 saw a theatrical release, but they definitely don't have the same film legacy as ...

From the department of Recently Resuscitated Muppets and Forthcoming Fraggles: Sesame Street is getting a new movie, with 20th Century Fox presenting a big screen adaptation of the 43-year-old series. (Depending on your age, you may or may not remember 1985’s Follow That Bird and 1999’s The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland). Joey Mazzarino, a veteran writer on the show, will handle the screenplay. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the show's Sesame Workshop company should be involved in a production capacity as well. Start digging to figure out how much Big Bird gets offered to do this thing.

You’d figure that, with The Muppets being a massive hit, a Sesame Street movie would get the go-ahead before, say, Fraggle Rock, but it only the collective power of 20th Century Fox and Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps could resurrect Big Bird. Now, however, THR has learned that the two will join forces to translate this beloved childhood staple into a bright, cheery cinematic experience, one which the series’ own Sesame Workshop is expected to also produce.
Nothing’s been revealed when it comes to plot or structure — we can all presume this won’t be dark and gritty… I’d hope — though it’s natural to expect something that veers away from their typical format and, rather, is in line with the previous Sesame Street films, Follow that Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. (The former of those, with appearances by Chevy Chase and John Candy, put...

We suppose we should have seen this coming after the successful return of Kermit and company to the big screen in The Muppets. But today's news is that Big Bird and the various other Muppets of the Sesame Street universe are now in the progress of making the move to movies, courtesy of Real Steel’s Shawn Levy and 20th Century Fox.Levy, wearing his producer’s hat and working via his Fox-based company 21 Laps, is putting the gears in motion to build a new film based on Sesame Street and its various characters. While the long-running educational series (it first aired across the pond in 1969!) doesn’t seem like a natural jumping off point for a film, it has actually led to two outings already through 1985’s Follow That Bird and 1999’s The Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland.Veteran Street writer Joe Mazzarino has the job of figuring out...

Weezer, Hayley Williams and The Fray are among a number of artists who have contributed to a compilation album in tribute to Jim Henson's The Muppet Show. The Green Album will be released this August and features cover versions of the show's most popular original songs. The album includes a cover of 'Rainbow Connection' by Weezer and Hayley Williams, Amy Lee from Evanescence giving her take on 'Halfway Down the Stairs', as well as Ok Go's cover of 'The Muppet Show Theme'. The album's release comes a few months ahead of Walt Disney comedy The Muppets, the first theatrical film to feature the popular characters since The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland back in 1999. The complete tracklisting for The Green Album reads as follows: 1. Ok Go - 'Muppet Show Theme'

This August marks the 25th anniversary of Follow That Bird, the first movie based on the Sesame Street TV series. I like to think of it -- though I sometimes forget to -- as a part of the Muppet movie franchise. Yet despite some overlap of characters between Sesame Street and the Muppets, few others ever consider this movie when discussing the true Muppet installments, such as its immediate predecessor, 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan. The disparity in appreciation for the brands is even evident in the fact that Manhattan (which features much of the Sesame Street cast in cameos) was a relative success, grossing $25 million, while Bird (likewise featuring Kermit the Frog in a cameo) was considered a box office flop with final earnings of only $14 million.
Despite that financial disappointment, as well as the even bigger bomb that was 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, I'd like...
