Finally, connoisseurs of comedy can get their hands on the 1996 Latino Laugh Festival! This “best of” hosted by Cheech Marin tackles all the highlights from the Latino Laugh Festival filmed in San Antonio. Despite the overall 90s presentation, this is a surprisingly funny DVD.
Marin’s selections from these performances are awarded his imaginary golden monkey Chi-Chi statue. They range from political satire to run-of-the-mill dating jokes, but all of them are concerned with Latino life. Even someone as white as I am can enjoy much of the humor here, even if it doesn’t resonate quite as much. And there’s even a ginger-haired comedian drawing from his life growing up in a Latin community that is a real crowd pleaser.
