Remember Jim Carrey in Liar, Liar, where he forces himself to tell the truth for 24 hours? Well, here Jim Carrey forces himself to answer yes to any request, for a year. Which is upping the ante somewhat, but doesn't make it a better film. This is a return to the manic, gurning, not-very-funny Carrey, as if The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine etc hadn't happened. Just say no.

‘IFC Midnight’ Features Some of the Best Films on Demand

Chicago – The great IFC Direct On Demand has an excellent slate of films airing this month called “IFC Midnight” and we got a chance to see them all to give you a heads up on what’s worth a look. Much to our surpise, while none are perfect, they all are interesting enough to warrant an On Demand purchase.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The best of the bunch is South Korea’s “The Chaser,” a film that won seven Korean film awards including Best Picture, Director, Actor and Screenplay last year and was a massive box office hit in its own country. The film also premiered at Cannes in the Official Selection category and we snapped up for a remake by the producers of “The Departed” and Warner Brothers. There have even been rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio taking one of the roles in the remake.

Chicago – The third week of the 12th Annual EU Film Festival at the Siskel Film Center is nearly upon us and we’re back to give you an idea of what to expect in the second half of arguably the best fest in the Windy City. We feature great new films from Ireland, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
The first half of EU 2009 (which you can read about here and here) produced some excellent films including Ireland’s “Kisses,” Denmark’s “Worlds Apart,” and France’s “Shall We Kiss?” There’s nothing that we’ve seen that’s quite as notable as “Kisses” or “Worlds Apart,” the two best of the fest through week three, but there is a quartet of films well worth seeing this weekend. Get your calendar out and take notes.
