12 Action Movies Set During Christmas Season

24 December 2009 11:08 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, peace and good will towards men. But in Hollywood, its also a time for death, destruction and nearly every form of mayhem.  Throughout the 80's 90's and (soon to be history) 00's more and more action films seem to take place during “the most wonderful time of the year”. Whether it be a heist, monster invasion or assault by pirates, so much onscreen action occurs on this jolly day that it's a miracle ole Saint Nick isn't killed in the crossfire. Here are just a few action films where Christmas is actually the last thing on the minds of characters fighting for their lives.Batman Returns (1992) Set during the Christmas season where a tree lighting ceremony in Gotham City serves as a battleground for the struggle between Batman (Michael Keaton), The Penguin (Danny DeVito) and Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). 1999: A Year In Review (Part One)

7 October 2009 9:07 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Many films come out every year with critics and fans alike, compiling lists of their bests and worsts. There are also many films that fall between the cracks, only to be discovered years later. Many critics believe that one of the best years in cinema was 1939, when Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were released alongside many other classic gems.

Personally, I’ve always felt that 1999 was an epic year for movies, providing us with so many interesting films. In fact, 1999 was such a good year for movies that even some of the bad ones are still worth watching!

So, please sit back and put your memory caps on as Screen Rant takes on a retrospective of 1999 in the world of film.

In 1999, the world was a very different place. We were on the cusp of a new millennium and 9/11 was something that nobody - not even »

"Forget it, Jake. It's Cougartown."

5 October 2009 8:44 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

The movies' male/female age divide is nothing new -- from Marlon Brando buttering up a less-than-half-his-age Maria Schneider in "Last Tango in Paris" to Catherine Zeta-Jones pursuing a grandfatherly Sean Connery in "Entrapment," on-screen relationships between older men and younger women rarely even merit a comment.

This week on the IFC News podcast, we thought we'd look at the flip side of the phenomenon and examine how films treat pairings of older women with younger men, picking out some of the recurring themes, and wondering why the deflowering of a teenage boy by an older female is allowed to be played off as funny, when the reverse is, well, Roman Polanski.

'Psych' does the laser scene from 'Entrapment': Always funny?

8 August 2009 10:58 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

On Friday's season premiere of USA's Psych, which found Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (the underrated Dulé Hill) tailing an elusive art thief (guest star Cary Elwes) in British Columbia, Gus was forced (by Shawn) to work his way through a laser maze in a gallery à la Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment. It is my position that, 10 years after that film's release, such scenes are still funny -- and, in fact, will always be funny. Watch below, then weigh in with our poll after the jump. »

Creation Trailer Starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly

30 June 2009 8:08 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

While a biopic about Charles Darwin is probably not destined to be the most riveting thing ever committed to celluloid, it seems inevitable that it will spark at least a little bit of controversy. The man's research forms the basis of modern evolutionary theory, and is still contested by many religious groups (although not so much by scientists). That said, it's a bit strange how bland and unassuming the trailer for Creation actually is. Starring Paul Bettany as Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as Darwin's wife Emma, the movie supposedly explores the Darwin's struggle over his own theories and the fact that they conflict with his wife's religious views. It almost seems like the movie will try to explain how both points of view can co-exist (further supported by the accompanying logo for Mel Gibson's distribution company Icon Films). Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I think there »

Paul Bettany Kills God in First ‘Creation’ Trailer

12 June 2009 11:38 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Creation, from director Jon Amiel (Entrapment), tells the story of the life of Charles Darwin, the father of the theory of evolution. And in this first trailer, which debuted over at Telegraph.co.uk, we see Paul Bettany as the famed naturalist and Jennifer Connelly as his wife Emma. Toby Jones also stars as Thomas Huxley, Darwin's close friend. Have a look at the trailer below. Looks a little BBC movie of the week to me, but you just never know. I've always been a fan of Bettany and the rest of this fills in quite well. Of course, this entire movie is blasphemy as you all know, so I won't be seeing it. But the trailer looks great. Creation hits theaters on September 25, 2009. What do you think of the first trailer for Creation? »

Douglas Ended Flings For Zeta-Jones

2 May 2009 6:55 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Michael Douglas put an end to his womanising ways when he started dating Catherine Zeta-Jones - because the actress told him she would not tolerate infidelity.

The 64-year-old actor married Zeta-Jones, 39, in 2000 and they now have two children together.

And Douglas, who was previously wed to Diandra Luker, admits when he first began dating the Entrapment star she made him promise to become a one-woman man.

He tells America's Parade magazine, "The night I really fell for Catherine she told me, 'I know you're a single guy and you're entitled to do what you want. But if we're going to continue this, then I just want to start with a clean deck. It's got to be just me.'"

And Douglas was so impressed with his girlfriend's honesty he immediately ended all of his other romances.

He adds, "I had to go upstairs and make a few phone calls to clear the decks and start fresh. But I'm not 'fessing up to how many calls I made." »
