'Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?' teaser: Is this a slasher movie?

Lionsgate has released the teaser for Tyler Perry's sequel to his 2007 hit, Why Did I Get Married? and it weirdly looks like a horror movie. The original group of squabbling couples are back, including Jill Scott and Janet Jackson, but it appears the drama has been amped up by the exotic locale and fairly intense tagline: "One. Of. These. Couples. Will Not. Make It." Is there a killer on the loose? Or just someone being really cranky? Hard to tell. It all kinda reminded me of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in which Jennifer Love Hewitt

The worst movies ever to grace the screen

A few weeks ago, I called Sandra Bullock's rom-com, All About Steve, part of her comeback tour. Boy, did I get that wrong.
What I didn't know at the time was that All About Steve has been collecting shelf dust for two years, because the movie's financial backers didn't know what to do with it. After Bullock's stellar box office showing in The Proposal and Bradley Cooper's surprise success in The Hangover, the good folks who brought us Miss Congeniality 2 decided to go ahead and release Steve.
It came out Friday to the worst Rotten Tomatoes ratings I have ever seen in my life.
It was late afternoon on Friday before it moved past a zero percent approval rating.
Still, Steve brought in over 13 million dollars on opening weekend (though there is no record of how many people demanded their ten bucks back after the movie was over). So,

Kind of a dull week for movie releases, but hey, at least there's a ton of cool TV stuff on DVD today! The biggest films hitting stores include The Haunting in Connecticut, the HBO fictional adaptation of Grey Gardens, and the Criterion re-release of Apollo moon mission documentary For All Mankind. Also Spanish horror film [Rec] is finally out in the U.S., and The Towering Inferno is out on Blu-ray. But who needs any of that stuff when you can have the classic '80s version of American Gladiators on DVD, not to mention The State: The Complete Series, Mad Men: Season 2, and a shiny new re-release of G.I. Joe Season 1.1?! Are you picking up anything this week?

DVD Playhouse—July 2009
By
Allen Gardner
Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Spike Lee’s groundbreaking fable about race relations in an ethnically mixed Brooklyn neighborhood during a sweltering New York summer remains as potent, timely and prescient as it was in 1989. Lee is among the cast, which also includes John Turturro, Danny Aiello, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Rosie Perez (to name a few), that provide the tableaux-like framework for this stunning work. Criminally ignored by Oscar (it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, but did garner nods for Supporting Actor Danny Aiello and Lee’s screenplay), it endures as a timeless classic. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Lee, Ernest Dickerson, Wynn Thomas, Joie Lee; Documentary; Deleted and extended scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.
Coraline (Universal) A young girl moves into an old Victorian house with her parents

It's a mixed bag this week with a few you may want to check out and others you will probably want to avoid. However, the most notable item in this release is in the new release date section at the bottom as Paramount has announced the Centennial Edition of Chinatown, which will include an audio commentary with Robert Towne and special guest David Fincher. Yeah, you are interested in that one aren't yah? Look for it on October 6!
Now for the releases...

This one is at the top of my Netflix queue and already is listed with a "Short Wait" note as many folks are wanting to get a chance to see it for the first time. I have heard nothing but good things about this film and I will finally be able to check it out for

You can bring home a recent horror sequel in 1080p this summer. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer will be released on Blu-ray on July 14. We have no cover art as of yet, but this new Bd will be priced at $28.95 Srp. The film stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy, Freddy Prinze Jr. and Mekhi Phifer.
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Mekhi Phifer star in the screamer sequel to the blood-chilling box office hit, "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Remember Ben Willis? He's the fisherman who killed the boy who was driving the car when it went off the road in the fatal accidentthat killed his daughter Sara... he's the man in the slicker with a hook in his hand ready to exactbloody justice... well, he's back. It's hard to forget a man who refuses to die.

John Carpenter’S Vampires (DVD Review)

While the 1990’s offered few great Vampire films, there were a good fistful of entertaining, and enjoyable contributions. One of which, was helmed by Master of Macabre John Carpenter. Carpenter, who has made a reputation by creating outlandish, and often over-the-top genre pieces rounded up a fitting cast to once again, pull no punches.
Vampires focuses on a group of joyriding vampire hunters led by the erratic Jack (James Woods) Crow. Along with Crow the posse consists of suave tough guy Anthony (Daniel Baldwin) Montoya, Father (Gregory Sierra) Giovanni, and Catlin (longtime genre veteran Mark Boone Junior, who you may recognize from such films as 30 Days Of Night, Wristcutters, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) amongst others. For this band of mercenaries, the goal is to eliminate the first, and oldest living vampire Jan Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith), before he can locate the Berziers Cross, which holds

If you haven't yet seen the Pandorum trailer, please, I urge you, watch it Here. This film looks truly terrifying. And not in an I Still Know What You Did Last Summer kind of way, but in a Session 9, Event Horizon, and Sunshine kind of way. Produced by Paul W.S. Anderson and directed by Christian Alvart, Pandorum tells the tale of two crew members (Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster) on a spaceship who wake up with no memory and soon discover that there is an evil lurking among them. If you won't
