The character M.K. Ultra, comic book writer Rodney Terence Stanko's (Gordon Currie) pen-name, is taken from the code name for the famous 1950s CIA experiment MK-ULTRA where the CIA gave LSD to unsuspecting soldiers and civilians.
New Line Cinema and Dimension Films were both interested in acquiring the rights to the film.
