Our good friends over Twitch Film have just launched an ongoing blog series that will follow filmmaker Vincenzo Natali (Cube) through his Sundance 2010 experience where his sci-fi thriller Splice will premiere. Click the think above for a cool production sketch and the first entry.
Starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, Clive and Elsa are young, brilliant and ambitious. The new animal species they engineered have made them rebel superstars of the scientific world. In secret, they introduce human DNA into the experiment. The result is something that is greater than the sum of its parts: a female animal-human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. They think they may have created the perfect organism, until she makes a final shocking metamorphosis that could destroy them ... and the rest of humanity.

In anticipation of his film's big Sundance premiere, Cube helmer Vincenzo Natali has established a blog at Twitch Film which is all Splice all the time.
Awesome.
Here's a sampling:
For those who do not know, Splice is a meditation on the relationship between creature and creators. The story revolves around two brilliant geneticists (played by Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody) who create hybrid organisms spliced from the genes of various animals. Their research has medical applications, and being young and adventurous, they target the top of the food chain: human DNA. Needless-to-say, mayhem ensues. But what makes Splice unique is that the true nature of the horror is emotional. And the ties that bind the scientists to their manufactured offspring is familial.

Utah isn't just for lovers--It's also for the Sundance Film Festival. Every year the fest rolls around I am jealous of those who get to attend the premiere of some of the most talked about independent films. This is the largest indie film festival in the U.S. and this year's lineup for the Park City at Midnight category looks like good stuff. The festival runs January 21 - 31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Many popular horror films got their start at the festival, including Saw. I wonder if Weinberg was there... After the jump you can get up close and personal with the lineup for Sundance's Midnight movie series. Keep your eyes here for more info on the films as we get it. I also gave you my picks. Tell me yours?
So far I'm pretty psyched for Splice, directed by the

Sundance '10 Announces Non-Competing Film Premieres

Sundance is a celebration of independent filmmaking, but half the fun is seeing the premieres of larger films that might not come out for months, or years in some cases. In fact, the non-industry people who attend Sundance every year might not be able to tell you what documentary won the Grand Jury prize last year (it was Ondi Timoner's We Live In Public), but they're always able to tell you when they saw "that new George Clooney movie."
With that in mind, Sundance has announced the premieres that are screening out of competition. You can see a full list, complete with synopsis and cast listing for each film, just beyond the break. There's a few standouts so far, and I'd have to say my most eagerly anticipated is The Company Men, where Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper and others have to survive corporate downsizing.

While we received a nice tease this past October in the form of this first clip, below you'll find a few new creature pics from Vincenzo Natali's (Cube) latest horror project, Splice, the sci-fi creature feature starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. We've been asking around like crazy and we've still yet to get any info on a potential Us distributor.

We’ve got a new clip, a new hi-res image and some additional (read: old) images from Splice, the upcoming sci-fi/horror from director Vincenzo Natali (Cube). The film stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead) as two scientists who start playing with DNA splicing and have it all turn out well…or not.
The film has been making the festival rounds but still no word on when it might get a U.S. release. Hopefully the clip and these images provided by Bloody-Disgusting will help pique Your interests so that we can get a proper look at this film over here in the states.
Here’s the official synopsis for Splice:
Clive and Elsa are young, brilliant and ambitious. The new animal species they engineered have made them rebel superstars of the scientific world. In secret, they introduce human DNA into the experiment. The result

Ok, so the events of two nights before are finally coming into focus (see previous entry here). I’m referring to the infamous Karoke party initiated by the Film Festival Mafia and spearheaded by Austin Fantastic Fest’s Tim League and NY Asian fest programmer Mark Walkow, neither of whom had any reservations about getting on stage and belting out a few tunes, even sober. For me, it takes a few of those fishbowl-size drinks before I muster the courage to give the B-52’s “Love Shack” a try. I was going to keep these drunken revelries to myself, but once an incriminating photo of me turned up in the daily Sitges festival newspaper a day later, and various celebrants had secretly videotaped the sordid affair, I had no choice but to come clean. Now I know how David Letterman felt last week.
I do learn a few things that night,

First Snazzy Clip From Vincenzo Natali’s Splice

Produced by “Pan’s Labyrinth” mastermind Guillermo del Toro and directed by cult Canadian filmmaker Vincenzo Natali (”Cube,” “Cypher,” “Nothing,”), the upcoming sci-fi horror outing “Splice” is shaping up to be something special. The film stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley star as a pair of scientists who fiddle with animal and human DNA to create a “beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera” called Dren. Chaos, of course, promptly ensues. Visually, the film looks absolutely fantastic, and promises to be one of Natali’s biggest features to-date. Which is kind of cool, as I’ve always felt Natali has been unfairly grossly overlooked by just about anyone. And if you haven’t had a chance to watch “Nothing” yet, add it to your Netflix queue as soon as humanly possible.
In the meantime, enjoy this clip from “Splice.” If that isn’t enough to satisfy your curiosity, Bloody Disgusting has a

The sci-fi horror movie Splice currently lacks a U.S. distributor, but one cannot help rooting for that to change, especially after checking out this new clip, courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes (check it out using the player below).
The recently-deceased Senator had been scheduled to release the film, which stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. However, with the company’s demise, the fate of Splice is now up in the air. The film, directed by Vincenzo Natali, revolves around a pair of hotshot scientists who cross moral and legal boundaries, creating a new organism out of spliced human and animal DNA.
As you can see from the clip, the creature kind of looks like a bunny crossed with a raw chicken. That’s not necessarily a compliment, and according to Dread Central, this strange life form called Dren develops into a beautiful yet dangerous winged human-chimera who forges a bond with both its creators.

Adrien Brody [1] and Sarah Polley star in the upcoming thriller Splice, set for release some time in September. Director Vincenzo Natali is best known for his movies Cube and Nothing.
Elsa (Sarah Polley) and Clive (Adrien Brody) are two young rebellious scientists who defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.

Cube director Vincenzo Natali returns with the sci-fi thriller Splice.
Presented by your friendly neighborhood Guillermo Del Toro, Splice stars Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Brothers Bloom) and Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead) as Clive and Elsa, a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another (awwwww), they start conducting unauthorized experiments (uh oh) with new animal species (ooooh no) that show great promise. They introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far-from-paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. Then, when this seemingly perfect organism makes a final,

Cube director Vincenzo Natali's long awaited horror film Splice, which was shot in 2007, has finally released a clip online.
Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody star in a film where ethical boundaries cannot restrain them from experimenting with genetic mutation. They play a husband and wife team of scientists who design creatures by combining animal DNA in order to extract valuable proteins and enzymes. When Polley's character decides to add human DNA to the equation, the result is more than freakish.
The clip shows a weird little creature running loose in the lab, one whose body might well be described as a featherless turkey. The stills from the film indicate that when the couple adds human batter to the mix, things become a bit more terrifying. One experiment produces a creature they name Dren, who rapidly develops from a deformed infant into a beautiful winged chimera who forges close bonds with her creators,

I first saw photos from Splice in February of this year and was immediately ready to see it. Cube director Vincenzo Natali has brought Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody into a world of genetic creature development that seems to have a lot of potential. The initial stills (some of which come from the clip below) showed a weird little creature that becomes something much larger and more dangerous. See the clip and read a bit of buzz from the Sitges Fest '09 after the break.
The basic plot rundown is below, and you can read that or skip if you wish to remain less potentially spoiled. (There's nothing truly spoilery in either my words here or that synopsis, but if you just want to get a taste, skip right to the clip, which doesn't give too much away.)
It's easy to see how this could combine elements of Alien, Species and Mimic,

Director Vincenzo Natali made a splash a while back with his low-budget thriller Cube, and it started to look like his latest project Splice was trapped somewhere in that killer hi-tech maze.
While the movie apparently has no Us distribution at the moment, we have our first live-action look at the film thanks to Rotten Tomatoes. Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley star as scientists who create a new species during their experiments. Unsurprisingly, things don't turn out well when they blend in

I want “Splice” to be good. It’s a sci-fi/horror/monster movie, it’s produced by Guillermo del Toro, it’s directed by Vincenzo Natali (”Cube”), and it stars two awesome actors in the lead roles (Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody). I don’t see how this movie can fail. Anyway, the first clip has been released and it’s after the jump - along with an introduction by del Toro and Natali.

For me, horror movies will always be fondly, profoundly linked to the sweet, wonderful and wide eyed rapture of my late-night trash TV-drenched childhood. Those bygone, misspent hours when I’d subject myself to every manner of sublime cinema, splitting open fantastic and macabre realities that potentially could and in some cases did, exist. One of the too-many-to-count strange shockers that left a major, destiny altering impact on me was veteran small screen director Sutton Roley’s obscure Sci-Fi tinged skin crawler Chosen Survivors, a movie whose chilly, nihilistic, future-shock premise hooked my Twilight Zone weaned sensibilities while also managing to exploit my acute fear of bedroom invading bats.
Before we proceed, let me explain a bit about that fear…
See, there was this one time when I was no more than 8, I was reading a particularly upsetting issue of Marvel comics’ groundbreaking Tomb Of Dracula series, alone, in my

It never really found its audience up in Canada during its theatrical run; a case of no marketing or opening against Watchmen, or simply baffling audiences? And things look tough in the Us, as it is only opening on a single lonesome screen against the audience friendly, ad-blitzed and marquee Drag Me To Hell. Yet we love Bruce McDonald‘s semiotic zombie (er, conversationalist!) headscratcher Pontypool a lot, and wish to see it finds its audience at the Box Office, or in the case of IFCs day-and-date release, with VOD.
I have seen this film almost half a dozen times now, yes folks, it is that good. It takes the overstuffed zombie sub-genre and turns it on its ear (literally). Yes, ladies and gents, this is the first ‘talk radio’ zombie picture, a film in which so little is actually shown on screen, the viewer is left questioning (for much
