The crew of Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans has been called back to active duty. The film — which has been in production over the past few months– is a remake of the 1981 Desmond Davis film of the same name, a loose retelling of the Greek myth of Perseus. Starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and a slew of digital Gods and monsters, the big-budget flick is adding some new footage to be shot in January prior to the film’s March release.
Why is Leterrier doing reshoots? What’s this you heard about 3D being added to the mix? Everything you want to know about what’s going on with Titans is after the jump:
As any film geek worth his salt knows, reshoots are often a sign of a troubled production (or a crappy first cut of a film). So, should we be concerned about the

The forgotten films of British director James Whale, remembered today for his groundbreaking Hollywood horror films, including “Frankenstein,” “The Invisible Man,” and “Bride of Frankenstein,” as well as Ian McKellen’s portrayal of him in “Gods and Monsters,” will be on display at New York City’s Film Forum during a one-week, 15-film retrospective starting today. In a New York Times piece titled “Voluptuary Stuck in a Box,” Terrence Rafferty describes the paradox …

10 closest Oscar races in the past 20 years

One of the shrewdest Oscarologists on the planet is Tariq Khan of Fox News, who often generously shares his views of current and past derbies with Gold Derby readers. Here he takes a nostalgic look at the past two decades, offering his take on the most competitive derbies. Words below are Tariq's. Thanks, m'friend!
We’ve often discussed those Oscar races that seem just too close to call . . . where it’s clear (or at least seems clear) that the eventual winner will nab the Oscar with only a few more votes than his or her nearest competitor.
While we can never really know for sure (unless we get one of those top jobs at the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers,) we do have some idea of what may have been the closest races in Oscar history. Allow me to present what I believe were the 10 closest acting races over the course of the past 20 years.

Halloween is coming, and fright flicks are everywhere at repertory houses and special showings. Joining the screening events we previously listed here and here are more big-screen revivals of classic fear films, plus a couple of East Coast Zombie Walks!
• Canadian undead fans can take part in the 7th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which takes place Saturday, October 24 beginning at 3 p.m. This one starts at Trinity Bellwoods Park (meeting place is the pit between Dundas Street and, appropriately enough, Gore Vale Avenue) and ends at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor Street West), where the festivities continue with a Cinema of the Dead double feature of Thom Eberhardt’s Night Of The Comet and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. Admission to the movies is $16 for ghouls and $20 for regular humans; more info on the Walk can be seen here, and on the screenings here.
• This year’s official New York City Zombie Crawl takes place Sunday,

A Peek at Brendan Fraser's Extraordinary Dramatic 'Measures'

Rejoice! It's time for another one of those rare moments where we get to talk about Brendan Fraser acting in a drama -- one that should get him a little more recognition than the smaller dramatic bits and thrillers he's taken on recently. See, he's co-starring with Harrison Ford in a pic called Extraordinary Measures, and the still above is the first from the film (via Cinema Blend).
Based on a true story (optioned by Ford), the film follows a couple whose two youngest children were diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder called Pompe disease. Rather than take things as they were, John Crowley quit his job and created a startup research company to help make advances that could help his children. (The C.B. link has a whole featurette sort of deal on the family.) Fraser plays Mr. Crowley, Keri Russell has the role of his wife, and Ford plays

Marlon Wayans Rumored for Richard Pryor Biopic

Entertaiment Weekly is reporting that Marlon Wayans is already in negotiations to star as comedy legend Richard Pryor in the upcoming biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
Part of the well-established Wayans Brothers clan, which helped pioneer In Living Color and several hit comedies in the early to mid '90s, Marlon Wayans showed his range by dropping a highly memorable performance as a Coney Island junkie in Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream (2000).
If we didn't have that performance to judge from, we might think the idea of him portraying Pryor is a big mistake, since he's also written and starred in several forgettable Scary Movie installments.
But according to the EW post, Wayans fought hard for the chance to audition for the role, and he then wowed producers with a 13-minute audition in which he "transforms into Pryor."
Apparently, Eddie Murphy was once attached to this project,

Can Marlon Wayans pull off Richard Pryor?

EW broke the news that Marlon Wayans is in talks to star in the biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? Eddie Murphy had been in attached to the project when it was set up at Paramount (it’s now at Sony). The Wayans news took many by surprise, but it could be inspired casting – Marlon went to the original Fame high school and studied film and arts at Howard University before making a dramatic turn in Requiem for a Dream. He is, of course, better known for exploring his funny side with his brothers. For this role,

Marlon Wayans Replaces Eddie Murphy in Director Bill Condon’s Richard Pryor Biopic

Earlier this year we got news that Eddie Murphy was going to play legendary comedian Richard Pryor in a biopic directed by Bill Condon (”Chicago”, “Dreamgirls”). Almost everyone was left wondering if Murphy could really pull it off. Well, we no longer have to wonder about Murphy as he has been replaced by Marlon Wayans. If this news wasn’t enough of a surprise, the film will no longer be produced by Fox Searchlight. Instead, it will be produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison productions. You can get all of the interesting details when you hit the jump.
Hitfix scored this bit of news which is sure to have the internet saying “wtf?” for the rest of the day. Hitfix tells us that Bill Condon and the film’s executive producers were impressed with Marlon Wayans after his dramatic audition which featured two scenes directly from the film. What

Bill Condon Takes On ‘The C Word’

Delicate subject matter generally requires an equally delicate approach, and The C Word is no different. Showtime’s pilot starring Laura Linney (John Adams) about a suburban wife and mother recently diagnosed with cancer will attempt to mix the seriousness of the disease with a lighter spin, and they’ve found their juggler in director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Condon will reunite with Linney for the first time since they worked together on Kinsey, where Linney received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2004. While the writer, director and Oscar-winner is no stranger to sensitive subjects, as his writing and direction on 1998’s Gods and Monsters would suggest, he’s also been involved in other genres throughout his career.
Condon has managed to tackle horror in 1995’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and musicals in 2002’s Chicago, and was even part of the writing

Welcome to the first installment of a new column here at Fangoria.com, Back Catalogue. Sometimes the Catalogue will cover new releases of older films, and sometimes it will feature exactly what the title implies, back catalogue items. These will normally be from smaller specialty labels that have formed the backbone of the horror fans ability to build a truly representative collection of their favorite films. I'm proud to start this column back up after a two year hiatus and promise to work hard to recommend films that you're in danger of forgetting about, have maybe never heard of, or that might be ready to go out of print.
I'm also proud that the first edition of Catalogue is all about Synapse Films. Anybody who goes to conventions and has stopped by the Synapse table has not only seen first hand the amazing array of labor of love releases and Special Editions they produce,
