Hairy Hayek Hates Her Frida Moustache

30 October 2009 1:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Salma Hayek regrets the moustache she grew to play Frida Kahlo in Frida - because now she has to keep waxing her top lip.

The Mexican beauty feared she wouldn't be able to pull off the artist's hirsute look if she faked a hairy top lip, so she started shaving her face in a bid to have the bristles grow back thicker and darker.

And now she can't keep them away.

Hayek tells the Globe, "Now I'm all messed up, because in real life, I have a moustache if I don't wax.

"When I get older, I'm probably going to look like (bandit) Pancho Villa." …

Hot wolfy action: Check out the new clip from ‘New Moon’

21 October 2009 6:47 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

In this clip from The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Bella (Kristen Stewart) confronts Paul, a member of the Wolf gang who she believes has stolen her friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner). She slaps Paul, he turns into a wolf and Jacob joins the melee for a throw-down.

As both a gentleman and a scholar, I can appreciate wolf-people fighting each other. I can also appreciate any scene with Ashley Greene but that’s a completely different matter. (Sidenote: Did Salma Hayek play a wolf in Frida? That’s the kind of were-beast I can get behind…)

New Moon opens everywhere November 20th. It stars <drum-roll…as if you don’t know by now, silly Twilighter> Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Dakota Fanning and Taylor Lautner.

Salma Hayek's daughter loves her fake beard

20 October 2009 12:34 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Salma Hayek's daughter was "fascinated" with her fake beard.

The 'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant' actress - who plays a bearded lady in the fantasy-adventure movie - said her daughter Valentina Paloma wasn't worried about seeing her with facial hair despite being just seven months old at the time.

She is quoted by movie website IESB.net as saying: "She saw me with a beard. She understands it is make-up. She was seven months old and she was not freaking out. I explained the process to her, and she saw it and was fascinated with it, but she knew not to touch it because it was fake.

"She was with me the whole time, and I had to show it to her, or I wouldn't have seen her the whole day. I couldn't put it on and take it off."

This is not the first time …

2010 Best Actress Contenders: is there anyone who actually deserves an Oscar this year?

16 October 2009 12:36 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

There have been some absolutely amazing years in the race for the Best Actress Oscar.  Take 1988 when Jodie Foster's performance in "The Accused" edged out what may have been career turns by Glenn Close in "Dangerous Laisons" and Sigourney Weaver in "Gorillas in the Mist." And you can't overlook one of Meryl Streep's all-time top five with "A Cry in the Dark" that year either.  Or, 2002 where Nicole Kidman won for "The Hours," but faced heavy competition from Julianne Moore in "Far From Heaven," Salma Hayek in "Frida," Diane Lane in "Unfaithful" and Renee Zellweger in "Chicago."  You …

Come Join the Party!

Hello, Jose here to remind you all that it's Madonna's birthday!

The Queen of pop/ businesswoman/ kabbalist/ mother/ 90's tabloid fodder/ safe sex advocate/ sex advocate/ entrepeneur/ icon is celebrating her 51st birthday today (and with those arms!). But along with everything she's done, many people forget (on purpose mostly...) that she's also an actress/director. The notorious perfectionist has never been able to master the cinematic arts, even if she tries and tries and tries. But since it's her birthday we should acknowledge that not all she's done for the silver screen is bad and since we can't take a holiday to get into the groove with her, here's...

51 Reasons to Celebrate Madonna... in the Movies!

51. Daring to take on a role created by Katharine Hepburn...sort of in Who's That Girl.

50. Her endorsement of Michael Moore.

49. Setting a whole new clothing trend with Desperately Seeking Susan.

48. Her deep love for classic films. …

First Image of Salma Hayek in Cirque du Freak

9 August 2009 4:59 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The first picture of actress Salma Hayek (Frida) as her character in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant has been released, and it's a hairy one. Hayek's character, Madame Truska, performs as a "bearded lady" in a traveling freak show with her lover, Larten Crepsley (played by John C. Reilly), the titular vampire. The movie is based on the popular Cirque du Freak young adult novels by Darren Shan.

When asked about playing such an unusual character, Hayek told Entertainment Weekly:

... she needs to be very comfortable with herself. I thought, of all people to have that problem, she'd be an interesting one. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie) and also stars Willem DaFoe, Ken Watanabe, Orlando Jones, and Ray Stevenson

Next Showing: Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant opens October 23

Salma Hayek as the Bearded Lady in ‘Cirque du Freak’

8 August 2009 3:44 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Entertainment Weekly has the first exclusive look at Salma Hayek in costume as the bearded lady in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.  The beautiful actress plays Madam Truska, an attraction in the traveling freak show who randomly sprouts whiskers when “getting passionate” with her boyfriend.  Hayek is no stranger to creepy facial hair after rocking a unibrow in Frida and being nominated for Oscar for it.

The trailer for Cirque du Freak has been showing in theaters this weekend and I caught it in front of G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra Thursday night.  To take a look, check out Cinematical.  John C. Reilly stars as a vampire and Chris Massoglia is his assistant.  Just what we need, another teen vampire movie.

I keep meaning to give you updates on Spider-Man:Turn Off the Dark, the 2010 Broadway musical. It keeps slipping my mind. Perhaps it's a psychological entertainment defense mechanism because the project seems like such a potential stinker. A superhero musical? Even if you can imagine the songs in your head (I can't), one wonders how the stage craft can manage webslinging and swinging? It better look better than the vine work in Broadway's Tarzan, he said gagging.

Two of the three principal roles have been cast so it's time to discuss.

Alan Cumming the Broadway Diva, X-Man, Gay Celebrity and Fragrance Hawker will be playing The Green Goblin. That seems like an inspired choice to me and I smell another Tony nod unless this things a disaster. Will this role make Cumming the first actor to have played two different famous characters within the Marvel Universe?

Kirsten Dunst might want …

Six of the Best Eyebrows in Movie History

9 May 2009 6:35 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The revival of Star Trek has arrived in theaters amidst a continuing trend of re-imagings, reboots, and origin stories.  J.J. Abrams has somehow managed to make the science fiction franchise new again through a simple re-telling of how the famous crew was formed.  Last weekend, X-Men Origins: Wolverine separated the character from the mutant team to delve into his violent past.  Later this month in Terminator Salvation a new trilogy of old, yet futuristic Terminators will terrorize humans again.

Though the movie may have been a timely collision with the zeitgeist, perhaps there’s a more important movement Abrams hadn’t intended to align with.  A fashion statement so deeply woven into society that maybe you hadn’t even noticed it.  I’m talking, of course, about crazy eyebrows.

Zachary Quinto had to shave his ordinary looking ‘brows to then achieve Spock’s two furrowed examples of crazy eyebrow excellence. …
