The Matrix is one of the most acclaimed projects in the sci-fi genre, directed by the Wachowskis. Its groundbreaking visual effects and iconic action sequences contributed to its mega success. However, this movie gives a different feel thanks to its fusion of Western and Eastern fighting styles, skillfully choreographed by Hong Kong martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-ping.
Keanu Reeves in The Matrix
Known for his work in the Hong Kong martial arts cinema, he never actively pursued opportunities to work in Hollywood. Given that he was offered to work on The Matrix, he requested a strict condition that would be required to be fulfilled only to convince him to become involved in the project. The filmmakers ultimately agreed to his condition.
Woo-Ping Yuen Wanted to Take Control of The Matrix‘s Action Scenes
The success of the 1999 movie spawned a whole franchise featuring Keanu Reeves in the lead role of Neo.

The reactions to Netflix’s sci-fi epic 3 Body Problem are, if anything, inconsistent. The reviews from top critics are all over the place, from lavish praise to disses and everything in between. Viewers are similarly split, with some fans of Liu Cixin’s novel criticizing the series for its bold adaptive choices, and many others saying 3 Body Problem is one of the best genre shows they’ve ever watched (one might say it’s a chaotic era of 3 Body Problem reactions). Yet among fans who have finished the show so far, one consistent reaction is emerging: The show’s cliffhanger ending (no spoilers here) left them really wanting to see what happens next.
And showrunners David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Alexander Woo suggest that a second season will be even better than the first. Benioff previously told The Hollywood Reporter for our deep dive cover story on...

The Aliens are coming. The Aliens are coming. But they’ll be a long time coming. (And here we thought Invasion on Apple TV+ was a slow burn.) So it’s best to exercise patience while wading through the labyrinth of visionary science fiction, incidental mystery, sluggish soap opera, and existential dread that embodies 3 Body Problem, an ambitious attempt to make Liu Cixin’s acclaimed sci-fi trilogy come to life. This series may be getting extra scrutiny because it’s the latest project of literary adaptation by Game of Thrones’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (working with The Terror: Infamy’s Alexander Woo). They’ve taken their knocks over how they ended their treatment of George R.R. Martin’s still incomplete fantasy saga—somebody had to do it—but in this case, they deserve credit for making the story more accessible and linear than the discursive, sometimes impenetrable original text.

I love when a video game genuinely surprises me. I’ll be the first to admit Trepang2 was not on my radar at all but I was sold when I heard it was a spiritual successor to the F.E.A.R. franchise. There’s been a F.E.A.R. shaped hole in the current landscape of horror-based first person shooters. Trepang2 would’ve impressed me by being a solid clone of it and nothing more. But to my surprise, it’s so much more than that. In fact, I walked away from Trepang2 thinking I had played one of the best damn shooters of the year.
So just what the hell is Trepang2? The game is the debut project of Trepang Studios and sees players take on the role of Subject 106 as he awakens in a black site for the sinister Horizon corporation where they were experimenting on him. With no...

It’s been a while since Ronny J has produced a Denzel Curry track, but the artists have linked up once again for the new song “Woo,” which you can listen to below.
Punctuated by quick-spit bars from the rapper, “Woo” rests on a catchy, tongue-in-cheek delivery from Curry that plays off the song’s title. “I walk in, them bitches go ‘Woo!'” he explains, before warning, in the same tone, “Don’t come around gang, we ain’t cool.”
“The ‘Woo’ session was good considering this is the first session Ronny J and I have done in years,” Curry revealed in a statement. “We brought in Chief Pound, who’s been an essential part of Ult from its conception and having PlayThatBoiZay on the record really shows the unity in Carol City.”

According to the latest Lionsgate earnings call (via Comicbook), Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake confirmed that a fifth John Wick is in early development. Along with that, the studio is looking to expand beyond film, including “in the Aaa video game space,” as well as a “regular cadence of spin-offs” and TV.

Netflix limited series “Echoes” landed 36.58 million hours viewed from August 29-September 4, according to the streamer. That’s good enough to rank number one for the final week of summer among Netflix’s English-language TV shows — but it’s just plain not good enough.
For any individual title, being number one on Netflix is an impressive feat. The Netflix library has 17,000 pieces of content, more than half of which are originals or exclusives. However, quality and quantity — for both subs and for programming — are getting harder to come by.
The streamer began sharing its weekly Top 10 in late June/early July 2021. Of the 62 weeks Netflix has measured thus far, by our count 42 had a number-one show with more than twice the viewership of “Echoes” last week. As recent as a month ago (and several other times this summer), this “Echoes” performance wouldn’t have even made the Top 5.

Busta Rhymes was the first performer eliminated from Season 4 of “The Masked Singer” last night, when he gamely rapped LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” instead of taking a more traditional singing approach to the Fox competition. Perhaps he should have just rapped faster.

Homer Simpson has been making us laugh from his very first “D’oh!” to his latest “Woo-hoo!” For more than three decades and counting, the ne’er do well patriarch of everyone’s favorite animated sitcom clan has had us rolling in the aisles with his outrageous howlers. So lets crack open a Duff beer and count down 25 of his funniest quotes from the 31 season run of “The Simpsons.”
Created by Matt Groening as a hasty drawing in the lobby of producer James L Brooks‘ office, “The Simpsons” first originated as short animated bumpers for “The Tracey Ullman Show.” Homer is voiced by former “Tracey Ullman Show” cast member Dan Castellaneta, who has won four Primetime Emmy Awards for his voice-over work.
Homer is ignorant, impulsive, quick to anger, and an alcoholic, but he is also loyal, he loves his kids, and he always makes the right choice by the end of the episode.

Hollywood star Will Smith almost had a fist fight with his actress-wife Jada Pinkett Smith's co-star Tommy Davidson.

One of the notable snubs on the Oscar shortlists was “Parasite’s” arresting score, but the music branch made it up by shortlisting the film in original song. Yes, “Parasite” has an original song. No, sadly, it’s not the “Jessica Jingle,” although it should be. The track, “A Glass of Soju,” was co-written by Bong Joon Ho, which means he could be nominated for a record-tying four Oscars for one film, joining a very small group, and just one year after Alfonso Cuaron did it himself.
Bong is already expected to receive bids for Best Picture as a producer on “Parasite,” Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, alongside co-writer Han Jin-won.

Apparently a script that has been floating around Hollywood since 1997 and only now, I’m guessing with the availability of CGI technology, coming to the screen, Gemini Man tells the story of top-notch assassin Henry Brogan. One of the worlds, if not The, premier assassin. Only Henry wants to retire and we all know that government agencies can;’t just let great assets like Henry retire. Ever. Well they can if their dead… And that what Clive Owen’s Clay Verris wants to do. Kill Henry. Only to kill an assassin as good as Brogan you need an equally good assassin. And what better than a clone?
From the get-go you can’t help...

Jada Pinkett Smith helped change her former costars life.
In a People exclusive clip of next Monday’s Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch, the host, 48, spoke to her Woo costar Tommy Davidson about how he met his birth mother.
“[The] first time that we worked together — and I really got to know you on the set of Woo — I came out for a scene and you looked at me and you said, ‘Something’s wrong with you,'” Davidson, 55, recalled. “I was like, ‘What you talking about? Let’s just get to work.'”

On their two 2015 albums “Depression Cherry” and “Thank Your Lucky Stars,” Baltimore-spawned duo Beach House had crafted their strain of dreampop to such perfection that it felt like there were few stones left to unturn. The duo felt that as well — they said of this album, “We wanted to rethink old methods and shed some self-imposed limitations” — and their seventh full-length represents less a change of style than of mood. While their impressionist synth haze and Victoria Legrand’s breathy vocals remain at the forefront, “7” is darker, cloudier, crankier and more turbulent than most of what they’ve done before.
It’s almost the inverse of the transformation that most musical artists try to make, which is to graft a new musical style or element onto their usual template in an effort to seem contemporary (has anyone not heard enough trap beats on pop songs yet?). The album starts off...

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. We've removed a bunch of projects that seem utterly dead - the once mooted remakes of Videodrome and Timecrimes, for instance - but we'll keep this list up to date as and when we hear of more.
Without further ado, here's what's coming up...

Her husband is one of Hollywood’s hottest hunks and Jada Pinkett Smith told Howard Stern that, although she locked her man Will Smith down early, she doesn’t think her kids should follow in their example.
The “Nutty Professor” actress told Stern, "Heck yeah, don't do it. Thank God I have a husband who is just a gangster partner because can you imagine taking that road together from 25 to 44? Woo!"
Furthermore, Smith emphasized the mutual respect she and Will share for each other- "You gotta trust who you're with, and at the end of the day, I'm not here to be anybody's watcher. I’m not his watcher. He's a grown man. I trust that the man that Will is is a man of integrity. He's got all the freedom in the world, and as long as Will can look at himself in the mirror and be Ok, I'm good.

Jada Pinkett Smith has never been shy when it comes to talking about her "open" marriage to Will Smith. In a new interview on the Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM, the actress revealed that she and her husband are free to date whomever, but that doesn't mean they do it. "You gotta trust who you're with, and at the end of the day, I'm not here to be anybody's watcher," she explains. "I'm not his watcher. He's a grown man." "I trust that the man that Will is is a man of integrity," she adds. "He's got all the freedom in the world, and as long as Will can look at himself in the mirror and be Ok, I'm good." The couple got hitched when Jada was only 25, which is something she wants her kids to avoid. "Heck yeah, don't do it," she says, offering up advice on waiting to get married.

Jada Pinkett Smith married Will Smith when she was very young, but that doesn't mean she wants her children to follow in her footsteps. "Heck yeah, don't do it," she advised when she stopped by The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM. "Thank God I have a husband who is just a gangster partner because can you imagine taking that road together from 25 to 44? Woo!" The Gotham actress, who has been very honest in the past about her "open" marriage to Smith, also clarified what she meant by her famous comments that indicated she and Smith were free to date whomever. Host Howard Stern, however, noted that neither one seems to act on it. "You gotta trust who you're with, and at...

The 2015 Grammy Award winners have been coming fast and furious for nearly three hours. That's the strange thing about Grammy night. Almost all of the awards are given out beforehand, so the actual telecast features only a dozen awards (give or take) and a wide assortment of performance. Follow along and join the conversation as I live-blog all of those performances, plus all of the awards, even though I have no real opinions on the inevitable winners and losers. It should be fun! 8:00 p.m. Et. "Madam Secretary" and "The Good Wife" will be back next week! 8:00 p.m. Thank you, LL, for reminding me of the things we were talking about after last year's Grammys. Hey TV watchers: Bet you wondered how they pulled off that "Wizard of Oz" tribute that showed Pink in Kansas and later in the Land of Oz as she sang "Over the Rainbow" during the Oscar telecast.
It took more than five projectors beaming images onto a translucent screen masking the singer to pull it off.
While the effect may have appeared magical on television, those in the Dolby Theatre audience couldn't really make out Pink for most of the song.
Still, they were impressed.
Jamie Foxx was the first on his feet after she finished.
It was Matthew McConaughey who was the loudest, shouting "Woo Hoo!" multiple times.
He's her neighbor, after all.

As if having your fiancé fall under a sleeping spell and then awaken in love with someone else was not enough of a challenge in the Nick and Juliette romance, the latest temptation will be in the form of a Wesen muse who tries to enslave Nick. The path to true love is never easy, but it is always worth it. Let’s just hope that the writers of Grimm do not tread any heavier on our already taxed romantic hearts. In a recent press conference call, star David Giuntoli provided some candid thoughts about what is upcoming for Nick and Juliette as well as a few more fun teasers about what is upcoming in the second season finale.

"Grimm" was recently renewed for a third season, and big surprises are in store for the finale, which airs on May 21st, with David Giuntoli teasing that one of the cast may not live through it.
We recently chatted with the leading man to discuss "Grimm" and its evolution up to this point. Giuntoli also stated that there is a chance we will see the return of Nick's mother, Kelly Burkhardt, played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, in tonight's episode, "Endangered," while Nick and Juliette continue trying to repair their relationship.
Before getting into the hardcore plot points of what is ahead, I chatted with David about some of the things he likes to do for fun, including what video games he plays--hey, I am BioGamer Girl after all!
Amanda Dyar: Hey, David. I want to know- on the show Nick never really gets a lot of downtime. So what...

As can be seen in the clip from "Grimm" that Zap2it debuted exclusively, Reggie Lee's Sergeant Wu gets to come to the forefront of tonight's episode, "Nameless." Thanks to his knowledge of fantasy novels and video games, Wu is able to help David Giuntoli's Nick and Russell Hornsby's Hank stop a serial killer who is targeting employees a video game company.
In anticipation of "Nameless," Zap2it caught up with Lee to talk about what's next for Wu this season. It turns out that Wu's involvement in "Nameless" is indicative of his larger role in the latter half of Season 2, with future episodes being dedicated to thinks like meeting Wu's family and finding out what his first name is. Here's what Lee teased for his characters:
Zap2it: Were you excited by Wu's larger role in "Nameless"?
Reggie Lee: Yeah, he finally gets to do a little something something here.

You may have heard that Sunday's Oscars was the worst ceremony in Academy history. I bet you also heard it was the best ceremony in Academy history. Get this: Neither is true! The Oscars were perfectly Oscar-y on Sunday, not dreadful or miraculous almost ever. Except for when host Seth MacFarlane stepped up to the dais. Oh God, guys. I don't watch his cartoon, The Hilariously Funny Family Guy Variety Hour or whatever it's called, but rest assured I won't be tuning in any time soon. We'll get to that in a bit.
Let's start with uplifting award handouts: I mostly applauded the night's winners, including the first honoree, the sexy, angular, tantalizingly clean-shaven Christoph Waltz. No doubt about it, the sinister gent is a talented looker. I have dreams where he stares at me like a cruel headmaster and I fall to the ground in sexual hysteria.

Los Angeles -- Toronto rapper Drake finally won his first Grammy Award on Sunday afternoon, while the rest of the Canadian field was shut out at an untelevised ceremony where the bulk of the prizes were handed out ahead of the evening gala.
Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Skrillex won three Grammys each while Jay-z, Kanye West, Esperanza Spalding, Gotye and Chick Corea all won two awards apiece at a three-hour ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in which 70 Grammys were distributed before the splashy TV broadcast.
Drake has been nominated a total of 12 times, and in 10 of those instances, he wound up losing to one of Jay-z, West or Eminem (in fact, the Jay-z/West combo beat him out in two of his nominated categories on Sunday too).
But the 26-year-old born Aubrey Graham didn't have any of those hip hop titans to contend with in the best rap album category,...

San Francisco Giants pitcher, the 22nd man to toss a perfect game, got us thinking about musical perfectos.
By James Montgomery
The San Fransisco Giants' Matt Cain
Photo:
On Wednesday night, San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain made baseball history — and totally helped my fantasy team — by tossing a perfect game against the Houston Astros. For those who have no idea what that means, Cain faced the minimum of batters — 27 — and didn't allow a single base-runner. That means no walks, no hits, no anything over nine innings (with 14 strikeouts to boot). If that sounds impressive, well, it is: Only 22 pitchers have ever thrown a perfect game in the 143-year history of Major League Baseball, and somewhat surprisingly, the list of those who've accomplished the feat reads less like a who's who of Mlb greats as it does a who's that? For every Hall of Famer (Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, Catfish Hunter) to reach perfection,...

Taraji P. Henson plays tough-as-nails Detective Carter on the CBS drama "Person of Interest," but her turn on the small screen follows an eclectic movie career, from her roles in movies like "Hustle & Flow" to her Academy Award-nominated turn in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
The 41-year-old single mom spoke to The Huffington Post about the show, working with Brad Pitt and what she thinks is the best birth control out there.
On "Person of Interest," you play the tough cop who yells, "I need those reports now!"
Yeah, she's pretty tough. She's seen some things, done two tours, but she's one of the good cops. I know sometimes cops can have bad reputations but there are good cops that exist and she's one of them.
This show is about vigilante justice. Do you agree with it?
As long as no one's getting hurt and as long as it's safe.

Actress, producer, director, author, singer-songwriter, philanthropist entrepreneur, wife to one of Hollywood's living icons and mother to two of its budding stars, Jada Pinkett Smith's credits seem to go on and on.
And, as of Sept. 18, she's only 40.
Unfortunately for Mrs. Smith, she can't currently count "lead on a primetime series" as one of her descriptors. TNT recently canceled her nurse drama "Hawthorne" after three seasons -- which we are just fine with.
Smith has always thrived in comedic roles, though that probably hasn't been what she's best known for. So to possibly inspire a post-"Hawthorne" gig for the 40-year-old (that doesn't involve voicing computer-animated hippo), here are 4 of her funniest efforts ever...

Exclusive: Leslie Glass’ popular April Woo series of suspense novels is headed to TV. CBS has bought a drama procedural based on the nine mystery books that hails from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico’s Apostle production banner and CBS TV Studios. Novelist and TV writer Amy Bloom, creator of the Lifetime series State of Mind, will write the script and executive produce the project with Leary and Serpico. Glass’ April Woo mystery series center on the title character, a brilliant young Chinese-American who becomes the first female head of detectives in Coney Island, New York. Raised in the traditions of modesty, good manners and quiet self-effacement, she is hardly a perfect fit to tackle Coney Island’s connected families, drug deals on the Boardwalk, feminist strippers, and corrupt politicians. The project stems from Apostle’s first-look deal with CBS TV Studios for network TV. Developing a drama series with...

Tmp is back to wrap up the 15 best movie about revenge, courtesy of guest writer Arcee from NFamousGamers. We've got more blood, guts, and hatred than we know what to do with on this list, so come in and see if your favorite revenge flicks made it on the list.
[Much like last time, spoilers for these films will ensue. And if for some reason you missed the beginning, be sure to check out Part 1 to get caught up!]
The Last House on the Left (1972)
To be honest, I like the 2009 version of the film slightly more than the original but the original film’s acts of vengeance and the reasons for it are more compelling. Two friends Mari (Sandra Cassell) and Paige (Lucy Grantham) go to a concert to celebrate Mari’s 17th birthday. In search of some marijuana, they run into a vicious criminal (David Hess) and his gang who just escaped from prison. Brutally victimizing and raping both girls, Paige is murdered for attempting to escape. Mari is then shot in the back and left for dead in a nearby lake.

Amy Heckerling: Amy Heckerling directed the starting point for a generation of brilliant high-school films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High before moving on to the stellar European Vacation. In 1989 and 1990, she hit a creative stumbling block, directing the successful but excruciating Look Who's Talking films before bouncing back in 1996 with Clueless. Unfortunately, it was soon after that success that she crapped out, directing Night at the Roxbury, Loser, and most recently, the straight-to-dvd clunker, I Could Never Be Your Woman, with Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer. She does have another film in the works, Vamps, with Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, but the movie (pictured below) seems unlikely to save her directing career.
John Landis: One of the very best comedic directors of the 1980s, Landis hit an unprecedented successful streak, starting with Animal House and ending with Coming to America. In between, there was Spies Like Us,...

Good morning San Diego! That’s what Taylor Lautner will be saying (you don’t know, its possible) to sold out crowds at the one, the only, the ComicCon!
Yes, there’s going to be a Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn booth, and since the dapper young actor will be at the Con, it is likely he’ll put in an appearance. As we reported, the panel is on the schedule for the first day of Comic-Con on July 21st. You have seen him in the Breaking Dawn, part one trailer, right? But, that fateful weekend will also be remembered for Abduction‘s presence at the Con.
On that same fun-filled day, Thursday, July 21st, Tay will be stationed at the Lionsgate booth “(#3729 for those of you trying to map out the San Diego Convention Center floor)” for a lovely signing. This news came via THR. Woo!

Adam Rose / Fox Contestants perform on the June 30 broadcast of “So You Think You Can Dance?”
It’s down to seven couples now.
The judges give a lot more substantive feedback tonight, which is much more interesting than generalized shrieks and love, maybe because with fewer dancers there’s more time to talk to them? The music is much more varied, too, with numbers from David Bowie, Tito Puente, Eartha Kitt and Bronski Beat. There’s also a new choreographer,...

With this week's release of "The Expendables," a dream of action fans has been realized, even if two of the film's biggest names (Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger) appear for less time than it'll take for star/director Sylvester Stallone to unload a Beretta on a cadre of Brazilian baddies. Yet while it is the first meeting of two decades' worth of action elite on screen, it is certainly not the only time when a film builds around nostalgia value as its foundation without being a sequel.
In fact, nearly every genre has called in its all-stars for one big blowout, despite the fact that in the era since über-producers like Stanley Kramer and Irwin Allen routinely collected "more stars than there are in heaven" (to borrow MGM's phrase), such event pictures based on casts rather than spectacle have become rarer, thanks to bigger star salaries and lesser dependence on...

Late on Thursday (June 3), the latest leaked track from Eminem's eagerly-anticipated sixth album Recovery hit the Internet. "Won't Back Down" is a powerful burner that features some shout-along verses from Slim Shady that bounce and dart all over a bottom-heavy, bluesy track built by DJ Khalil. Though some fans were skeptical of the fact that Pink was on the track, her rugged-but-pretty pipes add a great twist to the chorus. Past Emimem albums haven't contained a ton of guest spots, so each and every tag-team Shady chooses is gone over with a fine tooth comb. But "Won't Back Down" ranks up there with some of Eminem's best songs, which means the team-up with Pink should be considered a gigantic success.
On paper, Eminem and Pink don't seem like they would work very well together. Though Pink has brushed up against the hip-hop world in the past (most notably on the...
