In 2017, antique dealer David Van Auker purchased a house and all its contents at an estate auction. Van Auker and his team headed out to the extremely secluded home, located in the ultra-small town of Cliff, New Mexico, and began to take inventory. The domicile was filled with what appeared to be a random assortment of art, varying in style, but all of it paled to what the group ultimately discovered: "Woman-Ochre," a painting by expressionist artist Willem de Kooning. It was an original painting, too — not a print. And that wasn't all: as Van Auker soon found out, the painting had actually...

Hey everyone! While Valentine’s Day is almost over, we’re sure you’ll still have a lot of love for this week’s horror and science fiction home media releases. One of this writer's favorite films of all time, Joe Dante’s The Howling, is getting the 4K treatment from Scream Factory in a brand new release, and if you’re into time-bending sci-fi/action thrillers, you’ll definitely want to pick up the 4K release of Rian Johnson’s Looper as well.
Other releases for February 15th include Ghostriders, Cosmic Dawn, Settlers, Nezura 1964, Apparitions, The Devil Came Home, and The Skulls Trilogy on Blu-ray.
Cosmic Dawn

Spanish sales agent Liliana Bravo of Soul Pictures has boarded Diego “Parker” Fernández’s upcoming soccer drama, “The Signing” (“El Fichaje”).
His latest narrative feature, “The Broken Glass Theory,” represented Uruguay at the Oscars’ international feature category and has been a local smash hit, bowing in Uruguay just a month after the theaters reopened post-lockdown. “It played for 14 weeks, more than what we expected, and I heard that some people went to see it more than once,” said Fernandez.
Fernandez has also delved into non-fiction filmmaking with his debut documentary “Asi Pasamos” which vies for the top prize at Uruguay’s inaugural arts film festival, Arca (Jan. 9-14). Here he traces the life and art of graphic artist and painter Javier Gil who happens to be the older brother of his wife. “He gave me about 20 years of mainly home video footage and said: ’Do what you will with these,...

Someone must have left the freezer door in the morgue open, because grisly reminders of the past are thawing before our eyes. You can see it this weekend with the release of John Lee Hancock’s The Little Things, a throwback to the days when movie stars hung out at crime scenes instead of in spandex, and it’ll be more apparent next month with the launch of Clarice, a television spinoff of 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs. All the evidence points to only one conclusion: the serial killer thrillers of the ‘90s are back!
Not that we’re complaining. For a macabre minute or two, every Hollywood name appeared eager to play either the detective or the killer—the hunter or the obsessed, which often proved interchangeable for both characters. Granted that means there can be something formulaic about many of these movies. Yet they can also be bleak,...

A slow-burn serial killer saga that leans into genre clichés like they haven’t been bludgeoned to death yet, John Lee Hancock’s “The Little Things” isn’t just set in 1990, it was also written in 1990. And — an unambiguous positive at a time when most straight-to-streaming fare is so cheap and glossy that it makes 20th century shlock like “Kiss the Girls” and “The Bone Collector” feel like Visconti movies by comparison.
But really it’s “Se7en” that comes to feel like the most obvious antecedent of all, even if that epochal hit came out a few years after Hancock first hatched the idea for this one. Here is another vivid, patient, character-driven psychological thriller that sees its A-list cast as a license to subvert audience expectations, prioritize the detectives over the murderer they’re trying to catch, and offer a gruesomely dark vision of the world that focuses its...

A new year has arrived but Amazon Prime is looking to the past.
That’s not a bad thing mind you, as for its list of new releases in January 2021, Amazon is bringing back some classic movies and TV shows for its host of subscribers. We’ll get to the Amazon originals in a moment but for now, feast your eyes on January’s impressive library additions for the streamer.
Jan. 1 marks the arrival of all eight seasons of Dexter…roughly four and a half of which are great! Dexter will be receiving its own Michael C. Hall-approved revival later this year and thanks to Amazon you can catch up with the first run again. Speaking of show’s with disappointing conclusions, all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother will come to Amazon on Jan. 19. A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

As the streaming wars continue to heat up and get more competitive, a lot of studios must be regretting their decision to hand over the rights to a lot of their biggest movies and TV shows, which puts them at a significant disadvantage in trying to gain a foothold in the battle for subscribers.
Disney Plus is doing just fine given the vast amount of brands they have as part of their ever-expanding portfolio, which has only increased exponentially following their takeover of Fox, while Netflix are relying more heavily on their in-house content than ever as they let the rights to more and more pre-existing stories revert back to their original owners.

Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector will cease any kind of hunt, at least on NBC, which has canceled the serial-killer-chasing drama after an abbreviated inaugural season.
NBC’s cancelation of Lincoln Rhyme, reported via Variety, was a two-birds-with-one-stone move that also saw the nixing of another freshman offering in the Bradley Whitford-headlined comedy, Perfect Harmony. While no official explanation was given for the cancelations, the move obviously occurs during a time of intrinsic uncertainty with NBC’s 2020-2021 season plans still draped in mystery as productions remain halted in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Thus, while the pandemic has become the go-to generic answer for delays and cancelations, it is, nevertheless, an unavoidable factor.

Thus, while the pandemic has become the go-to generic answer for delays and cancelations, it is, nevertheless, an unavoidable factor.
Lincoln Rhyme made a heralded arrival on NBC this past January 10 with a lengthy title referencing The Bone Collector, which identifies it as an adaptation of Jeffery Deaver’s novel and...

While Netflix continues to add a lot of great content, including some new original series for the summer, the platform is also going to be losing parts of its library. In particular, July will see The Matrix trilogy depart the service for the newly launched HBO Max, with some other Warner Bros. movies also making their way over to the fledgling subscription rival. What titles, then, are no longer going to be available on Netflix come July?
Well, among the films that are leaving next month, notable pics include Cloverfield, The Curse of Benjamin Button and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, as well as the majority of the Tremors franchise. Another big Warner Bros. title, Christopher Nolan’s Inception, will also be removed, part of what’s becoming a mass transfer of content over to HBO Max as the rival looks to compete with Netflix on its back-catalogue of movies. There have been a lot of adaptations (primarily for TV) of megaselling author James Patterson’s pulpy fictions, none particularly memorable, with the possible exception of hit 1997 thriller “Kiss the Girls.” But then, his books seldom aim for much more than disposable entertainment, so it’s apt enough that their screen versions should follow suit.
By that standard, there’s nothing really wrong with “The Postcard Killings,” which derives from a one-shot 2010 collaboration with Swedish crime novelist Liza Marklund that hit No. 1 on the U.S. bestseller list. But there’s nothing very right about the British-American co-production, either. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan as an NYPD detective tracking his own daughter’s serial killers across Europe, this uninspired detour into impersonally commercial English-language terrain for Bosnian director Danis Tanovic (an Oscar winner for 2001’s “No Man’s Land”) should provide Patterson’s fans and undemanding miscellaneous viewers with an acceptably slick...

The titular alien superhero team of The Eternals haven’t explicitly appeared in the McU before now, but given their immortal lifespans and backstory that reaches back to the ancient times of the Marvel universe, there’s the potential to revisit past movies and find connections to them that proves the Eternals have always been around. For instance, maybe we actually saw the origins of the species way back in Guardians of the Galaxy and didn’t notice?

New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Ashley Judd — who alleges that Harvey Weinstein behaved inappropriately toward her in the mid-1990s — is suing the disgraced producer Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The two-time Golden Globe nominee is seeking damages for sexual harassment and defamation, also contending that Weinstein violated California’s Unfair Competition Law. Any winnings would be donated to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, Judd said in a statement.
Once Judd had been cast in Miramax’s 1995 film, “Smoke,” she was summoned to a breakfast meeting with its co-founder, Weinstein, at the Peninsula Beverly Hills. Although Judd declined, she did appear in “Smoke” and a second Miramax feature, “Kiss the Girls.”

Arizona Foundation for Women has selected two-time Golden Globe nominated actress, humanitarian and author Ashley Judd, as its 2018 Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree.
Ms. Judd is known for her roles in highly successful movies such as Kiss the Girls, Eye of the Beholder, Someone Like You, and Double Jeopardy. And most notably, Arizona Foundation for Women is recognizing Ms. Judd for her philanthropic and activist work around women’s health, rights and equality, and helping those living with AIDS around the world.
“Ms. Judd brings to light in her work around women’s issues a topic many prefer to keep in the dark, deny, block out, ignore or simply are not aware of,” says Arizona Foundation for Women CEO Mesha Davis. “It’s hard to hear of a child, woman, or anyone, being sexually exploited or abused, let alone talk about it openly. We need dedicated individuals like Ms.

NEW YORK -- Gary Fleder soon could be saying hello to The Deep Blue Good-by.
The director of Runaway Jury and Kiss the Girls is in talks to direct the Fox project, based on the first title in crime novelist John MacDonald's prolific Travis McGee series.
The 21 McGee novels, most of which were written in the 1960s and '70s and all of which feature a color in their title, could be turned into a franchise by Fox. They feature McGee, a free-living bachelor and reluctant hero who lives on a houseboat in Florida and works as a "salvage consultant," recovering property and money for clients and taking half the fee in return.
Good-by centers on McGee's efforts to track down a treasure that a solider escaped with and hid after World War II.
Fleder, who made his mark with the 1995 cult classic "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead," is known for directing crime thrillers. The Morgan Freeman starrer Kiss the Girls earned $60 million domestically for Paramount in 1997, while the John Grisham property Runaway Jury grossed $50 million in the U.S.

The Kiss The Girls actress checked into the Shades Of Hope Treatment Centre in Buffalo Gap, Texas in February while suffering from depression and an eating disorder, and completed a 47-day program to aid her recovery. She's now confident she's beaten the illness, saying, "I have so many more tools now. My self-care is really good." And she thanks her husband, racing driver Dario Franchitti, for standing by her during the treatment: "He is so supportive in just the right way. Pitch-perfect." The British director, whose most recent film Insomnia starred Al Pacino, has signed a deal with studio giant Warner Bros, who currently have three new Batman projects in development. Nolan says, "I grew up with Batman, I've been fascinated by him and I'm excited to contribute to the lore surrounding the character. Batman is the most credible and realistic of the superheroes, and has the most complex human psychology. His superhero qualities come from within. He's not a magical character. I had a fantastic experience with the studio on Insomnia and I'm keen to repeat that experience." The Batman franchise started strongly in the late 1980s, with Michael Keaton starring as the caped crusader in the first film and Batman Returns, but the two following movies - Batman Forever with Val Kilmer and Batman And Robin with George Clooney - flopped. The other two Batman projects are Batman: Year One, a darker tale to be directed by Requiem For A Dream's Darren Aranofsky and Catwoman, which follows the story of Michelle Pfeiffer's Batman Returns character. Kiss The Girls star Ashley Judd is reported to be taking over the role.
