Michael Fassbender Goes From One Bronte To the Next

The Brontes are all the rage for adaptation right now. It's undoubtedly due to Edward and Bella bestowing their favor on Wuthering Heights, and had they chosen Great Expectations, perhaps we'd see Dickens adaptations flinging themselves to the big screen. I love corsets and cravats, so I'm not going to complain, and I'm certainly not going to whine if Cary Fukunaga gets this cast for Jane Eyre. Variety is reporting that Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska are in talks to play Jane and Rochester for Fukunaga, and oh, how torrid it would be!
This is actually the second time Fassbender has circled a Bronte adaptation. Last May, he was said to be in talks for Wuthering Heights, but Ed Westwick stepped into that particular waistcoat. It's a shame. I think Fassbender would have made an excellent Heathcliff, and may have been the first one to actually snarl, bang his head against a tree,

(S01E08) I don't know if enough credit is being given to the child actors on this show. All four are doing top-notch work... five if you count Lily. We already knew that Rico Rodriguez is amazing as Manny, but so little is being said about the Dunphy children. They haven't had as much screen time, yet, as really anyone else on the show, but who can deny how funny it is watching Ariel Winter as middle daughter Alex just torturing her dimmer siblings.
Sarah Hyland is channeling her best Mila Kunis in the role of eldest daughter Haley, who's just so tortured by how mean and horrible her family is. This week, she matched wits with her grandfather, only he'd been down this road so many times with his own daughter, and to a lesser extent his son, that he knows all the tricks by heart.

As much as we hate the joke we're about to make, we had "Great Expectations" for this week's episode of Modern Family. The highly anticipated episode guest starred both Elizabeth Banks and Edward Norton.
So how could an episode with these two heavy weights be so mediocre? Well for starters, Edward Norton's role as Izzy Lafontaine of Spandau Ballet was hilarious in concept. Come on, Claire brought in the bassist of a band Phil's never heard of to play for their anniversary? Hilarious set up, but just didn't produce enough laughs.
Elizabeth Banks as Sal was at least a little funnier, but didn't give us the crazy adventure we were hoping for. Perhaps she needed more time than just one-third of a half hour sitcom.
The saving grace of this episode was grandpa Jay. He had all the kids over for a P-Jay party at his house and he

Megan Fox sat down with MTV to talk about her upcoming movie "Passion Play," which is a drama that also stars Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and is about an angel under the thumb of a ruthless gangster, who is saved by a trumpet player down on his luck. "I'm doing a movie called 'Passion Play' with Mickey Rourke," she said. "There is a love story there, it's clearly not going to be a typical one. My character is basically a circus freak, she lives in a cage and she has wings. She's not an angel, but she has these giant wings that grow out of her back. She's a freak and she's on display." The new movie is written and directed by Mitch Glazer, who is making his helming debut. Glazer previously provided scripts for such films as "Scrooged," "Great Expectations" and "The Recruit."

Chicago -- Somewhere in Chicago on Friday night, hopefully dry and warm, you can bet that Perry Farrell was grinning ear-to-ear. Despite a persistent all-day rain that turned the massive Lollapalooza fairground along the Chicago waterfront into a slippery mudbog worthy of Woodstock, the musical mash-up spirit that the festival's co-founder has been chasing for nearly 20 years made a strong showing.
As the rain finally let up in time for the headliners to take the stage, on the north end, the battling band of brothers (and cousin) Kings Of Leon were making the most of their third go-round at the fest, pumping out their muscular Southern boogie to an adoring sea of fans.

All lists of the "greatest" movies are propaganda. They have no deeper significance. It is useless to debate them. Even more useless to quarrel with their ordering of titles: Why is this film #11 and that one only #31? The most interesting lists are those by one person: What are Scorsese's favorites, or Herzog's? The least interesting are those by large-scale voting, for example by IMDb or movie magazines. The most respected poll, the only one I participate in, is the vote taken every 10 years by Sight & Sound, the British film magazine, which asks a large number of filmmakers, writers, critics, scholars, archivists and film festival directors.

Last night I was invited by The Script Factory to attend a special screening of ‘Rudo y Cursi’, followed by a Q&A with the film’s makers. ‘Rudo y Cursi’ is the directoral debut of ‘Y tu mamá también’ scribe Carlos Cuarón. It is also the first first film to be unveiled by the new Mexican production powerhouse, Cha Cha Cha Films.
It’s a new company but the names of the three founders might ring some bells somewhere in the deep recesses of your mind: Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárittu! The film also happens to star the two most iconic faces of the Mexican New Wave, Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
There is no equivalent to this film anywhere in the canons of cinema. It is the Mexican equivalent of Coppolla, Peckinpah, and Scorcese teaming up to produce the directorial debut of Robert Towne,

This is an awkward week, as I was fully expecting to write an X-Men Origins: Wolverine piece today. But sometimes you need to jump the gun, and I wrote up my berserker "review" for Friday instead. So now it's time to just take a deep breath and think out loud about the meaning of it all.
Perhaps it's a sign that I'm still relatively new to this crazy world of Internet movie news, but I don't think I've seen so much anger and annoyance surrounding a "geek" film as I have in these days post-Wolverine. (I'm sure there must have been similar feelings for Daredevil or Hulk, though.) The emotions were high around Watchmen, but I think a lot of minds were made up before they even sat down in the theater, so their emotions were slightly blunted. Thanks to an award-winning performance in last year’s The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke suddenly has no shortage of film roles to choose from. Rourke recently wrapped principal photography on 13 with Jason Statham and is rumored to be attached to several high-profile films, including Sin City 2, Iron Man 2 and Rambo V.
In his latest project, Passion Plays, Rourke plays a down-on-his-luck musician who attempts to save an angel (Megan Fox) from gangsters.
