REVIEW
Peter W. Simeon <simeon@imdb.com> (11 July 1999)
Laserdiscs don't come much better than this one. Resolution is very good, it has almost no video noise and surprisingly little chroma noise, partly thanks to the great pressing quality of the Kurary plant in Japan. There is some minor aliasing, but this is hardly avoidable for NTSC resolution with a non-anamorphic format. When viewed on a high end laserdisc player with state of the art 3-D comb filter, this laserdisc looks almost like a very well compressed non-anamorphic dvd. The colors are so good, and the picture is as sharp as a laserdisc can get. There only very few scenes where you can see some comb filter artifacts (like the edges of 'Robert Carlyle' 's red/white shirt while he is running at the beginning of chapter 6). The soundtrack is equally well done. Especially the music sounds great. There are not that many surround effects, though. Some more atmospheric effects would have been nice. All in all this is a very enjoyable disc, which I can highly recommend.
