Viacom-controlled Spelling Entertainment Group announced Thursday that it is shutting down its movie division and will focus on TV. Company president Peter Bachmann said in a statement that, despite last year's success with Breakdown (1997) and In & Out (1997), "our primary business is television, and it is those operations ... that have the ability to generate the greatest value for our shareholders." It was not immediately clear what would happen with the 30 or so projects that Spelling Films had in active development, including theatrical versions of its classic TV series, The Love Boat and Mod Squad.
