The studios often save the dog days of August for their weakest performers and sure enough, this weekend proved the rule. (In the past, “The Butler” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Straight Outta Compton” did strong business in August.) Yes, “Suicide Squad” grossed over $20 million, as it became the first non-animated film to have a three-peat at number one since “Dead Pool.” But three weak new releases— “Ben-Hur” (Paramount), “War Dogs” (Warner Bros.) and “Kubo and the Two Strings” (Focus) —opened to less than $15-million.
Making it even more challenging for this trio of weak domestic performers to make their money back: None are scheduled to open in China, which is increasingly the second and sometimes biggest single territory for theatrical grosses. That’s a big deal in a studio world increasingly shifting its focus on a sure thing.

So last we saw Harley she was about to get married. Dead Tool pulled out every trick he could to piss off Harley, even going as far as tattooing his phone number on her butt. This lead to a confrontation/surprise wedding in a Brooklyn church and that is where we pick up in issue #28.
We start with the promotion of Harry Spoonsdale to chief of police. During his introduction to the public he is given information about the whereabouts of Harley Quinn, information to which he jumps on right away. Meanwhile at the Church, Harley wastes no time in literally knocking some sense into Dead Tool. Soon after as she tries to get some answers as to what is going on, she finds herself puzzled by the fact that she is surrounded by the Police and their new chief. Harley tries to get some answers but the trigger happy...

Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool film underwent a lot of changes as it made its way to the big screen. Regardless of these changes that needed to be made, the movie still ended up awesome, made fans happy, and also made the studio an ass load of money.
Since the film was released, we've posted a few bits of information regarding some of the changes that have been made, but thanks to Mr. Sunday Movies we have a video that breaks down everything regarding scenes that had to be deleted from the script, characters that didn't make it into the film, and some of the jokes that ended up being cut.
The creator of the video offers this introduction:

There are an overwhelming number of easter eggs in Deadpool. Like, “over 100” overwhelming. In fact, Ryan Reynolds’ R-rated game-changer may have the most hidden in-jokes and references of any superhero movie ever – there’s everything in here, from repeated jabs at Hugh Jackman, send ups of the previous desecration of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and some of the most obscure comic winks going. And, of course, there’s Stan Lee, who turns up to be a bit of a perv.
By far the most intriguing is the Dead Pool chalkboard from which the anti-hero takes his name – it’s absolutely full of names that range from celebrities to comic book creators to even the actors involved the scene. It’ll take multiple viewings of the movie to see all the gags in this blink-and-you’ll-miss it moment, so to save you the time (not that...

After what seems like decades of waiting (oh wait: it was actually about 10 years!) the Deadpool movie finally opened in theaters this past weekend to the tune of a record-shattering $135 million at the box office; and it was everything I’d hoped for. It was exactly the Deadpool movie that we needed at this point to get the franchise rolling – a dynamic R film that pulls no punches about who Deadpool is and why he’s not a traditional hero, yet invests us in his unorthodox character and worldview and gets us rooting for him anyway. And as I walked out of the theater, despite any minor critiques I may have, I felt distinctly the warm, zen-like glow of happiness from having just experienced the fulfillment of longtime hopes I’ve cherished for the manifestation of just such a Deadpool film.

San Diego Comic Con has come and gone once again, and as always, we were overwhelmed by all that we saw. Some of it seems like a blur, but these highlights will stick with me for a while, and influenced my overall impression of the big event. Come inside to check them out!
What began in 1970 as a couple of guys sitting around talking about their comic books has now grown into a multimillion dollar convention. Where people from around the world all travel to San Diego California for 4 days to get the latest in movies, television, games, toys, and of Corse, comics. San Diego Comic Con has once again come and gone. I am beaten, I am broken, but I will give you my thoughts on everything major that came out the past 4 days. I’ve included links to the panels for anyone that wants to watch themselves, curtesy of Youtube.

"Most superheroes in one selfie?" That's what Nerdist's Chris Hardwick asked his Instagram tonight (July 11), as he snapped a pic that included cast members and filmmakers for "X-Men: Apocalypse," "Dead Pool" and "Fantastic Four." Look below. This photo includes guests of the 20th Century Fox panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, like Stan Lee, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Lucas Till, Lana Condor, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Ryan Reynolds, Tj Miller, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano... and pane host Hardwick himself (we cannot comment on his status as a superhero). We counted 29 people, but faces get a little blurry in the back. Who else do you see in the mix? I mean this Has to be some kind of damn record. Most superheroes on one selfie?...

Clint Eastwood revisited Harry Callahan three more times, usually whenever his career was in the dumps. If Dirty Harry was a cultural phenomenon and Magnum Force a respectable follow-up, the rest are uninspired cash-ins. The main law Harry enforces in these sequels is the Law of Diminishing Returns.
Given Dirty Harry‘s San Francisco setting, something like The Enforcer (1976) was inevitable. After all, San Fran hosted Haight-Ashbury, hippie capital of the world; was a favored site for Black Panther and Sds protests; headquarters of the nascent gay rights movement; victim of Weathermen bombings and the racially-charged Zebra murders. Writers Gail Morgan Hickman and S.W. Schurr based their script, originally titled “Moving Target,” on the Symbionese Liberation Army which kidnapped Patty Hearst. Dean Riesner (who cowrote the original Harry) and Stirling Silliphant (In the Heat of the Night) polished the film.

Do we really know who the Benefactor is now in Teen Wolf? Here's Ron's review of Time Of Death...
This review contains spoilers.
4.8 Time Of Death
One of the highlights of Teen Wolf is the way it has embraced its meta-ness. It's a show about teenage werewolves on a channel that used to be called Music Television, so it makes sense that Teen Wolf would both poke fun at its history (by having Baby Derek be a teenage werewolf basketball player) and at MTV (by making music a character in the series, constantly working in tunes, and even having musical guests on its after-show). There's a knowing awareness of the fact that it's a television show, not in terms of the performances, but in terms of some of the written content. Stiles is a great example of this, since he's always making commentary that winks at the fourth wall, but...

Orphaned welcomes back a great villain for a particularly blood-thirsty episode of Teen Wolf. Here's Ron's review...
This review contains spoilers.
4.6 Orphaned
I think the decision to bring back Kate Argent for the role of this season's big-bad has turned out to be a great one. Jill Wagner is phenomenal as the show's bad guy, and the denouement after the blistering fight scene between Scott and Chris Argent and Kate's berserkers was a brilliant bit of television, if only because it's the scene that launched a thousand “Halegent” ships. That's right, Kate and Peter, two of the biggest baddies in Teen Wolf's run, are apparently joining forces - presumably only to double cross one another once final victory over the forces of good is achieved. She's really a natural fit for Peter: obsessed, violent, a bit vain, and apparently very difficult to kill.

Clint Eastwood Week with Alan Spencer! concludes at Trailers from Hell, with screenwriter Spencer introducing "The Dead Pool."The fifth and final film in Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” series is memorable for early career appearances by Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey. Directed by Buddy Van Horn whose remarkably long and action-packed career as a stunt man (beginning in 1951 with the Byron Haskin western Warpath) was sidetracked by three directorial jobs for Eastwood, including Dead Pool, Pink Cadillac and Any Which Way You Can. Versatile cinematographer Jack Green went on to provide the uniquely noirish western look for Eastwood’s oscar-winning Unforgiven.

This week marks the 25th anniversary of "The Dead Pool," which, perhaps no one realized at the time, was the final "Dirty Harry" movie. The movie was released on July 13, 1988, shortly after Eastwood turned 58, and while the actor has continued to play cops and gunslingers and action heroes, he tossed away Inspector Harry Callahan's badge for good.
"Dead Pool" isn't a great movie (though it did give early career boosts to Patricia Clarkson, Liam Neeson, and Jim Carrey), but it matters because it marked the end of an era -- and perhaps the beginning of another. It marked a farewell to the most influential cop drama series in modern film history, and it paved the way for our current wave of similar shoot-'em-up heroes, loose-cannon cops who are even more dangerous and misanthropic than the criminals they collar.

AMC's month-long Fearfest celebration just got interesting with the release of a series of mini-docs titled "Living Nightmares," which feature one major human fear per episode.
From the Press Release:
Over ninety feature films are helping to celebrate AMC’s 2012 Fearfest, and the network has developed several mini-shockumentaries to precede and play during these many films. Ten "Living Nightmares" are being aired during AMC’s Fearfest. These short reels of 3-5 minutes in length include the violent expose “Breaking Point,” the eye-opening hydrophobia-focused “Dead Pool,” the controversial alien short “Invasion,” and the human blood-drinking documentary “Blood Work.” All of these short features focus on a specific human terror.
Several horror stars are featured in these mini-documentaries. Horror icon Bill Oberst, Jr. (Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies) re-enacts Elliot Cruise’s real-life testimony as an extraterrestrial expert in “Invasion.” Cruise’s accounts of Area 51 and the Roswell Incident will terrify viewers, and...

In a move I certainly didn't see coming at the beginning of the fall season (the show was one of my Dead Pool entries), NBC has ordered a full season of Grimm, according to Entertainment Weekly. With a full 22-episode order, it's the network's only new hour-long drama to receive a full-season pickup.
NBC will also try out the show on Thursday, December 8 in the 10pm slot in an attempt to grow its audience. Grimm currently airs in the graveyard that is Friday nights at 9pm, where it's performing admirably. The show is averaging 6.9 million viewers and a 2.3... More >>...

After X-Men: First Class’ rip-roaring success at the box office, it seems talk of a sequel to the prequel are already underway.
Numerous fan sites are claiming that discussions surrounding the return of the franchise have begun, only one month after Matthew Vaughn’s explosive instalment debuted in cinemas.
With a $335m return at the box office worldwide, Fox would be hard pressed not justifying a follow-up.
However before everyone gets ahead of themeselves, the studio are rolling out big-gun, Hugh Jackman for the upcoming Wolverine sequel The Wolverine, directed by James Mangold, later next year.
Furthermore the First Class sequel will also be up against X Men: Dead Pool, a spin off of the Wolverine movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Wayde Wilson.
So whether these talks will amount to anything, remains unseen at this stage, but if Fox can drum up an equally entertaining follow-up to the franchise then we’re definitely on board.
