Now that we got the latest Mortal Kombat game, fans like me are itching for Injustice 3. I’ve noticed that there’s always been a two-year gap between the Mortal Kombat and Injustice games, but with no announcements made, I wouldn’t expect that streak to keep going. Granted, the year isn’t over yet and they can still make an announcement. Mortal Kombat 11’s trailer didn’t drop until the very beginning of last year and the game released three months later. So, if you’re still hoping for a reveal, there’s still a chance. Expecting one at DC Fandome? Well, that would’ve been

Independent distributor WellGo USA has secured North American distribution rights for action-packed sci-fi comedy “Max Cloud.” The company plans to give it a digital on-demand release in December. A theatrical release remains a possibility, but will be determined by the state of the coronavirus-strained exhibition sector.
Rights are handled by U.K.-based Fae Film & Television, which announced the sale at the virtual edition of Hong Kong’s FilMart. The company says that while many international rights have been sold to Spi International, a handful of territories remain available, including Japan, Australia, Germany, the U.K. and China.
The film, which delves into a retro gaming era, is directed by Martin Owen (“Twist”). It stars martial artist Scott Adkins alongside John Hannah, Lashana Lynch and Tommy Flanagan.

Oh Spawn, wherefore art thou? Todd McFarlane’s dream project has been in development for years but despite having a great cast and talented crew, studios have been hesitant to give it the green light. Their hesitation is apparently down to McFarlane insisting that he helms it, though him being a first-time director is working against him. His response to their fears was that he’d minimize that inexperience by surrounding himself with “quality people.” But since then, all we’ve heard are monthly promises from McFarlane that a big announcement is due soon… which never comes.
That trend continued at a recent virtual panel appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. On the subject of Spawn, he said:
“We are in the process of adding, I think, not only a home run, but potentially a grand slam to our movie. I’m not saying that as a teaser.

We’ve been lucky enough to snag some pretty great deals from both Sony and Microsoft as of late. Indeed, from Far Cry 5 for a measly $9 on the PS4 to huge savings on the Resident Evil series on Xbox, there’s been plenty of offers to help keep your wallets happy in these trying times.
Now, it looks like Sony wants to double down on all the money-saving fun with their new, annual “Summer Sale” promotion. And as per usual, it’s a real doozie featuring around 500 heavily discounted titles for your gaming pleasure. That’s right, some of the biggest franchises in the industry make an appearance in the sale including Uncharted, Call Of Duty, Star Wars, Doom, Dark Souls, Death Stranding, The Last Of Us, Days Gone, Final Fantasy, The Witcher, Metal Gear Solid, Dragon Quest, BioShock, Battlefield, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto and many, many more.

Tenet will be released in theaters. Eventually. While hardly shocking news, there had been some speculation this week after Christopher Nolan’s Tenet abandoned its Aug. 12 release date (the third it’s had scheduled) over just what Warner Bros. has planned for the time-bending epic. But though WB’s previous announcement that the film would not enjoy a “traditional global day-and-date release” confirms the studio is intending to stagger its release around the world, AT&T CEO John Stankey is now making it clear that Tenet will have only a theatrical release… even if other delayed WB films may not.
The news comes out of AT&T’s quarterly earnings conference call with investors on Thursday morning. Inevitably the question of AT&T’s strategy for Warner Bros. Pictures came up, particularly for its scuttled summer 2020 blockbusters Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984.

If you had any concerns that the upcoming Warner Bros. reboot of Mortal Kombat would censor the series’ trademark indulgent violence, there’s absolutely no need to be worried.
Actor Lewis Tan, who stars in the film, has revealed to the folks over at ComicBook.com in a recent interview that the movie intends to be every bit as gruesome as the games on which it’s based. In reference to the live-action adaptation’s use of Fatalities – a feature previously confirmed by writer and producer duo Greg Russo and Todd Garner – Tan recounts how there were numerous days on set where he’d feel physically sick from the level of violence on display.
Let me just say this, there were some days on set that I felt sick. I’m not kidding. They did not… They did not hold back.

Despite the general consensus among academics being that video games have no causal link with real-world violence, the industry has repeatedly had to defend itself against such baseless accusations since its infancy. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto and NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat series, in particular, have found themselves repeatedly scrutinized in the past for the violent content they depict and to absolutely no degree of success.
Today, both series remain some of the most popular in the world and with millions of fans between them. Some governments, however, have found themselves unable to let sleeping dogs lie and dredged up a debate that has long since been put to rest. That being the case, it’s hardly surprising that a spate of recent studies aimed at reaffirming previous discoveries has popped up as of late, such as that conducted by Massey University in New Zealand.

The all-in move shows how much confidence they have in the film’s commercial potential.
Previously, the studio was planning to platform the movie, with a limited Christmas Day debut, an expansion on Jan. 8 and full-on wide release on Jan. 15. Also, having an extension to the Oscar-qualifying period (to the end of February) helps. It will be interesting to see how many more studios follow this model, versus the typical Thanksgiving-Christmas crunch for award pedigree films.

The Australian federal government will offer some $280 million ($400 million Aud) to attract large inbound foreign film productions. The measure was announced Friday local time by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
The new Location Incentive plan will provide cash grants over the next seven years. It is in addition to Australia’s Location Offset system, under which projects can receive rebates for production and post-production work done in the country.
The Location Incentive program also follows a $175 million ($250 million Aud package) revealed last month to support the wider arts and entertainment sector recover from coronavirus. Of that, $34.4 million ($50 million Aud) was allocated to the film and TV sectors, much of it in the form of financial guarantees for insurance policies that allow film and TV productions to restart.
“The Location Incentive is an economic multiplier. It will sustain the vitality of Australian screen production and support jobs and local businesses,” said federal Arts Minister Paul Fletcher.

On July 15, Nintendo will add The Immortal to Nintendo Switch Online’s ever-growing collection of retro games. As a free game that initially appeals with its “side of the van” cover art and promises of dungeon crawler gameplay, I imagine that you may be tempted to try it.
That’s why I feel obligated to warn you now that The Immortal is not the innocent Nes game that it appears to be. In fact, it’s a game so frustrating, confusing, and downright cruel that it has haunted the dreams of any gamer who was unfortunate enough to give it a shot in 1990. Back then, they didn’t know that they were about to experience what may very well be the meanest thing publisher Electronic Arts ever unleashed upon the world in the decades before microtransactions.
These days, infamously difficult games like The Immortal are typically referred to as the “Dark Souls” of whatever genre.

Tom Holland is set to portray a younger version of Nathan Drake in an upcoming live-action film adaptation of the beloved video game franchise Uncharted. And because Drake is a passionate treasure hunter and fearless parkour runner, he needs to be in pretty good shape to play the character in a believable manner.
As Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia made clear, living up to Hollywood body standards is not just hard, it’s nearly impossible. Luckily for Holland, though, he’s got a good friend to help him along the way.
In a recent post on his Instagram story, the young actor revealed he’s been training with none other than Mark Wahlberg. The team-up is by no means trivial, either, as Wahlberg is set to star as Holland’s own older, wiser mentor in the film, the cigar-chomping Victor “Sully” Sullivan.
“When working with @markwahlberg you gotta get after it!

As the architect behind the Resident Evil franchise, Paul W.S. Anderson knows a thing or two about turning a popular video game property into a money-spinning series of movies. None of the six installments found much favor with critics, but Resident Evil definitely had a lot of fans judging by the fact that it became the highest-grossing video game franchise in history after raking in over $1.2 billion at the box office.
Anderson has long been known to dabble in the genre, with his second feature being 1995’s cult classic Mortal Kombat, and he’s sticking to what he knows with his latest project, re-teaming with wife and frequent collaborator Milla Jovovich to tackle the Monster Hunter series. The Evolution Championship Series was already set for an unprecedented year. Initially, they were going to do eight games, plus a special invitational tournament for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to celebrate its 20-year anniversary. Pesky Covid-19 made it very apparent that a big get-together in Las Vegas at the end of the summer was absolutely not in the cards. Instead, they announced Evo Online. The announced games were dropped and replaced with four games that were at least celebrated for having good-to-great netcode.
The plan was to start Evo Online on July 4-5 with each weekend based on one of the different games. Then it would culminate on the weekend of July 31-August 2. Not only would we see the Top 8s for those games, but there would be big announcement trailers for other fighting games and the like. It wasn’t the classic Evo, but it would be enough of a...

Over the last few years, we have seen the Mortal Kombat series turn into something truly special. Not only is this one of the best fighting series ever created, but Mortal Kombat 11 is by far one of the best story-driven games I've ever played. When the Mortal Kombat 11 launched, we gave it a much deserved 4.9 out of 5.
The overall presentation of Mortal Kombat 11 made me feel the true love and passion that NetherRealm Studios has for their games. Though I knew more Dlc characters would come, I have to say I honestly never expected an add-on to the already amazing story of Mortal Kombat 11.

“Once the pandemic hit, we prepared for the worst,” says David McIntosh, Director of Marketing at Tastemakers, the parent company of Arcade1Up. “We tightened up our staff, we let go of some of our external partners…as most people did. Steeped in nostalgia, Arcade1Up has been developing and manufacturing 3/4 scale arcade cabinets of some of the most iconic arcade titles in history, releasing them through major retailers like Best Buy and Walmart since 2018. Warner Bros. Interactive Being Shopped, Titles Include ‘Harry Potter’ And ‘Game Of Thrones’ – Report
AT&T is reportedly discussing a sale of its Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment gaming division, according to numerous reports. The deal could come in around the $4 billion mark and could have a licensing component that would still generate revenue from the intellectual property.
Reducing debt is the goal of any deal. Warner Bros. Interactive titles are largely tied to Warner-owned intellectual property, including Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Lego Movie, but includes the Mortal Kombat and the Scribblenauts series.
Among the rumored suitors are Take-Two Interactive Software, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard.
Spokespeople at AT&T declined to comment. The company will have John Stankey as its new CEO as of July 1, replacing Randall Stephenson. The new CEO enters with a mandate to divest properties and reduce debt.
AT&T acquired Time Warner for $109 billion in a 2018 deal and has about $165 billion in debt.

A report by CNBC suggests that AT&T is looking to sell its Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment gaming division which includes developers such as Rocksteady Studios, NetherRealm Studios, and Monolith Productions.
The report claims that some of the parties interested in purchasing Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment include Take-Two Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard. As of the time of this writing, though, it does not seem that any of those companies have confirmed their interest in this possible acquisition.
According to CNBC, any company that is interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment may have to pay upwards of $4 billion in order to complete the deal. That projected figure certainly narrows down the list of potential buyers.
Of course, the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment brand does include quite a few assets. Along with the partner studios associated with the label, a buyer would potentially gain control of such franchises like Mortal Kombat,...

From the moment Mortal Kombat hit arcades, it was seen as more than just a simple Street Fighter II clone. The controls were different, the atmosphere was different, and it had an extremely different look, thanks to the digitized actors that replaced the traditional pixel art of the era. That more realistic look went hand-in-hand with the gruesome use of blood. Yeah, Street Fighter II had blood splatter here and there, but getting hit with an uppercut in Mortal Kombat meant several pints of blood squirting to the skies and then splattering on the floor.
This culminated in the game’s most infamous gimmick: the Fatality. All seven playable characters had a single move that allowed them graphically kill their defeated opponents, plus a special Fatality everyone was capable of doing on the Pit stage. Unsurprisingly, the Fatality got parent groups up in arms and helped Mortal Kombat become a household name.

Will we ever get to see Todd McFarlane’s Spawn? The movie has been in development for years, but despite having had a great cast and talented crew signed up, studios have been reluctant to give it the green light. Their hesitation appears to be primarily due to McFarlane insisting on making this his debut feature as a director, though his inexperience in the medium is working against him. His response to those fears was that he’d minimize that inexperience by surrounding himself with “quality people.”
But it has to be said that things haven’t looked particularly positive of late. It’s a shame, too, because the success of Joker seemed to make studios realize that there was a massive untapped market for R-rated comic book movies with a dark and depressing atmosphere. The signs were pretty positive even as recently as early 2020, but then came the Covid-...

Another trailer for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath has landed with a thud, this one putting new Dlc fighter RoboCop front and centre. The footage, narrated by Johnny Cage, shows off some of the moves the cyborg law enforcer will bring to the table, and they’re set to delight fans of his 1987 movie.
Highlights from the clip include Alex Murphy taking out Mortal Kombat‘s usual suspects with his trusty Beretta m93R machine pistol, that spike he ejects from his knuckle and the missile launcher he took out Ed-209 with. And speaking of Ed-209, he makes an appearance, too, blowing an opponent to smithereens in a Heroic Brutality.
RoboCop is one of three premium fighters that will join Mortal Kombat 11 as part of the Aftermath update, the other two being Fujin and Sheeva. He’s featured heavily in NetherRealm’s promo campaign for the Dlc and was previously seen...

To be fair I’m not sure which is more disturbing, the fact that Robocop was made into a cartoon, or that he’s now included in a Mortal Kombat movie with fatalities that pull from the original movie, with the most liberal amount of gore possible of course. Damian Damaske of Joblo puts it accurately enough when he says that Robocop had to work hard not to get slapped with an Nc-17 rating, so it’s difficult to think how anyone looked at it and said ‘let’s market it to kids’. Of course given the reaction to the movie it’s pretty easy

Fans of gaming’s goriest fighting game franchise are in for a treat later this month with the launch of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.
An expansion of the base game that includes a bevy of new material, Aftermath not only marks a first for the series in introducing additional story content but the usual deluge of more stages, cinematic finishers and, of course, characters. Three new fighters are scheduled to join an already expansive roster this time around, with Mortal Kombat mainstays Sheeva and Fujin accompanied by yet another guest combatant, RoboCop.
As always, NetherRealm has proven itself something of a stickler for authenticity with this particular crossover, having managed to recruit Peter Weller himself to return and voice the cyborg. We got a first glimpse of the 80s icon in action last week via a slick gameplay montage and now, there’s even more to fawn over. You can check out the footage,...

Last week, NetherRealm Studios opened some eyes with the announcement trailer for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. The ultra-violent fighting game will update with a new storyline campaign, Friendships, Stage Fatalities, and three new characters. Sheeva the Shokan Queen and Fujin the God of Wind are fairly interesting if you’re familiar with Mortal Kombat, but the big news is the inclusion of RoboCop.
RoboCop is just the latest of the many intriguing guest characters who have joined the Mortal Kombat roster through Dlc. Mortal Kombat 9 had Freddy Krueger. Mortal Kombat X had Jason Voorhees, the Predator, Leatherface, and the Alien Xenomorph. Mortal Kombat 11 already has the Terminator, Joker, and Spawn. Now it’s Alex Murphy’s moment to shine.
While his brief appearance in that trailer was neat, there was still a question of what he’d look like in action. RoboCop, while badass as all get-out, isn’t really...

Just when we thought NetherRealm couldn’t possibly make its flagship fighting game franchise any more comically violent, along comes Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath to once again prove us all dead wrong.
First revealed earlier this month, Aftermath is a full-fledged expansion to the series’ 11th installment that promises to add so much more than ‘just’ a bunch of new playable characters. There are, of course, plenty of those in the form of Mk mainstays Sheeva and Fujin, and the pair are joined by yet another guest character in the form of RoboCop. The crime-fighting cyborg joins fellow 80s action star alumni Terminator later this month and, thanks to the release today of new gameplay showcasing Aftermath‘s content, you can even see the two go head-to-head in gorgeously gruesome Mortal Kombat. Check it out for yourselves above.

This Solar Opposites review contains spoilers.
Solar Opposites Episode 2
In the pilot episode, I felt that Yumyulack and Jesse didn’t get quite enough screen time to fully characterize them. This episode rectifies that as they get a storyline that defines both characters perfectly. Terry and Korvo get a hilarious plot that balloons to out-of-control sci-fi proportions and the Pupa even gets a full story arc too. “The Unstable Grey Hole” is just packed and, on top of all that, it’s got an ending you’ll never see coming.
Terry and Korvo’s dynamic is reinforced in this episode and I love it. Korvo always tries to take the high-minded, “focus on the mission” road… for about five seconds. Then he and Terry fully commit to the same petty distraction. This time, Korvo uses the flimsy excuse that it’s a work necessity for him that people like him...

The rise of the video game movies has been a tenuous and arduous one throughout the years since it’s also been hit and miss along the way with only a handful of attempts that have really panned out. Even with the advent of game-based movies such as Mortal Kombat and Sonic the Hedgehog a lot of people firmly believe that movies based on video games just don’t have a great enough track record to be marketable. Even proving them wrong at this point doesn’t quiet the most attentive critics. But with Horizon: Zero Dawn, there’s a well-defined story and possibility

Fighting game old and busted: Dead or Alive 6.
Fighting game new hotness: “Dead or alive, you are coming with me.”
NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 11 is going to be upgraded to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath on May 26. There are a lot of neat things that will come with this Dlc, such as a new cinematic storyline, new stages, the return of Friendships, and a handful of new characters. Characters like Sheeva the Shokan warrior queen and Fujin, God of Wind.
The biggest news is that those two will be joined by RoboCop. Yes, the protector of future Detroit and occasional alter ego of Colonel Sanders is on his way to Mortal Kombat.
I’ll buy that for a dollar! Or forty of them, since that’s the going price for the upgrade.

It’s been just over a year since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 and not only was it a solid game, but it brought forth some entertaining Dlc with Kombat Pack 1. Over the last year, we’ve seen Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Joker, and Spawn enter the fray. Usually, that means a bit of a wait until Kombat Pack 2 would give us more characters and then NetherRealm Studios would call it a day and move on to the next game.
Well, yes, we are getting more characters, but there’s more. A whole lot more.
Mortal Kombat 11’s Story Mode ended in a way that felt pretty conclusive. Essentially, villainous Kronika was trying to reboot reality completely so that Raiden never existed. Raiden merged with two Liu Kangs from different eras to create Fire God Liu Kang, a being powerful enough to foil Kronika’s plans and destroy her.

The word ‘friendship’ is unlikely to spring to mind when one thinks of Mortal Kombat – a video game franchise known for its brutal fights and bone-crunching Fatalities.
And yet, with the forthcoming Aftermath Dlc for Mortal Kombat 11, developer NetherRealm Studios is delivering some of the funniest, friendliest content ever seen in an Mk game. Think Scorpion saying “get over here!” to a life-sized teddy bear.

Following weeks of speculation, leaks and teasers, NetherRealm Studios has finally unveiled what’s next for Mortal Kombat 11.
Officially titled Aftermath, the expansion not only delivers on expectations of further new characters, but a continuation of the base game’s time-traveling narrative, too. Picking up directly after the conclusion of Mk 11‘s story, players will be tasked with rewriting history and reestablishing its flow as the newly-ascended Liu Kang. With Kronika’s crown destroyed (and the ability to shape time as one sees fit gone along with it), Kang is left with no other option than to forge an uneasy alliance with evil sorcerer Shang Tsung and a raft of other familiar faces.
Confirming those rumors we’ve been hearing for a while, new playable characters joining the fight include Fujin and Sheeva, as well as an additional guest character, RoboCop. You can see the trio in action for yourselves via the trailer above.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge isn’t quite the return to live-action that fans of the franchise have been waiting almost two decades for, but it’s undoubtedly a terrific stop-gap.
Labelling Warner Bros. Animation’s direct-to-video flick as such does it something of a disservice – Legends is a terrific addition to the mythology that retells Scorpion’s tragic backstory as well as his role in the inaugural tournament meant to decide Earthrealm’s fate. As of writing, the film has a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes (albeit with a small number of reviews), ranking it as the series’ most well-received cinematic adaptation to date.
Whether next year’s (excluding any delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic) live-action reboot will enjoy a similar level of success remains to be seen, of course, but voice actor for Scorpion’s Revenge, Patrick Seitz, sees no reason why further Legends installments...

Filming on the Phase 4 project began in February this year and now, the first set footage has leaked online.
The video, which was posted on Twitter by @charlesbassf, appears to show Simu Liu and Awkwafina’s characters arriving at what looks like a nightclub in China. Not much else can be gleaned from the clip, but it’s good to see that director Destin Daniel Cretton and his team have managed to capture at least some footage amid the coronavirus disruption.
@GraceRandolph Set footage from Shang Chi filming in Syd Australia, before Corona Virus. Seem to have Simu and Akwafina characters arriving at what seemed to be a “night club/hidden corporation facility” in China.

Resident Evil is on the verge of making a big cinematic comeback in the near future.
Fans of Capcom’s beloved survival horror series will likely be well aware of that already, of course, but beyond the fact that another stab at the property is now brewing in development, we don’t know a whole lot about what to expect. James Wan and Johannes Roberts were initially attached to the project as producer and writer/director respectively, before Wan left the pic to go work on another cinematic video game revival (see: Mortal Kombat).
Roberts, however, remains on board and has promised that the film will stick closely to the source material. Unfortunately, though, we’ve still yet to receive any official plot details or even firm confirmation on which characters will appear on-screen. Until now, that is.

It’s time to battle for the realms once again as Mortal Kombat returns this week with an all new, bloody, animated feature that brings the action and characters into the spotlight. Scorpion’s Revenge might tell a familiar story, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome. Check out my full review!
