The new Lost clone brought to us by Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer and Star Trek Deep Space Nine creator Brannon Braga is actually better than Lost. Which is really not hard to do. You know the premise: the entire planet blacks out for 137 seconds and everyone sees their individual futures for the date of April 29, 2010.
Joseph Fiennes, Shakespeare himself from the Oscar winning Best Picture Shakespeare in Love, leads a team of FBI agents that includes Seth McFarlane and “New Sulu” John Cho, to investigate the blackouts.
The first episode starts with Fiennes and his team encountering their blackouts. Fiennes, in his blackout, sees his board in his office with various random and completely ridiculous names and numbers »

Since he first dropped his debut album in 1996, Jay-z became an instant classic on the hip-hop scene. Now that he is about to drop his 11th album The Blueprint 3, MTV News takes a look back at the history of one of the greatest artists in rap history with The J to Z of Jay-z.
In 1989, Jay-z made his music video debut dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and adorned with floral leis on the Jaz's "Hawaiian Sophie." Still relatively unknown in the rap game, the fresh-faced young rapper was Jaz-o's protégé and hype man dropping in and out of the video to deliver short one-liners while the Polynesian sounds of a ukulele flowed in the background. It's a far cry from the dramatic street hustles in his first solo video "Dead Presidents" or the futurist darkness of his latest "Run This Town," but every hustler needs a starting point. »

There are a flurry of new dance movies coming out in the next couple of years. Footloose has been on the books for a few months now; Fame comes out in a little awhile as well; and just recently we got word of a Dirty Dancing remake in the works. This summer, Dance Flick tried it’s best to make fun of all the dance films that came before it, and to some degree it succeeded.
Now comes the news from Variety that Warner Bros. has hired Malcolm Spellman to pen a script for the ultra-cool, highly popular, TV show Soul Train. That’s right, grab your platform shoes, pull out your 8-tracks, and put on your coolest outfit because it’s time to get on board the Souuuul Train! Don Cornelius, the man with the smooth deep voice of cool, will produce along side with Darryl Porter (Dead Presidents) and Aaron Geller. »

I expect the cries of rage to sound any moment now. How can they treat Soul Train this way?!? (Ok, I don't really expect cries of rage.) Variety reports that Warner Bros. has hired Malcolm Spellman to write a film based on the immortal '70s and early '80s television dance show Soul Train. (In fact, the show ran well into this decade, but that's the period in which it was most influential.) The show will be set in the '80s, and sounds like your basic dance/musical flick. Get in line to shake it after the break. Don Cornelius, the show's host and producer, will also produce the film. Spellman, (who the trade says also wrote Dead Presidents, which may have been an uncredited rewrite) told Variety, "all of the hip-hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show, »

There are some mornings when I fire up my news feeds and have to hit refresh because the words I'm reading make no sense together. Today is one of those mornings, with Variety reporting that "The Sopranos: Road to Respect" video game writer Malcolm Spellman is adapting the hit music TV series "Soul Train" for a narrative feature. The article also lists "Dead Presidents" among Spellman's previous credits, though I can't seem to find any evidence of his involvement in that film.
The TV series ran from 1971 to 2006, though Spellman's story is said to be set in the '80s. The protagonist, a Los Angeles native, wants out of the 'hood and his ticket is his gift for "popping", a hip hop dance style that originated in California during the 1970s. The aspiring dancer will pursue some kind of break on a fictional hip hop dance/music tour.

The websites crawling through the crowds at Comic-Con have snapped a few pictures of the new Book of Eli one sheet hanging at the convention center. It features star Denzel Washington walking in a post-apocalyptic world with just a pack and the clothes on his back. The poster actually reminds me a little of Will Smith’s I Am Legend.
Directed by Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes (From Hell, Dead Presidents), the story centers on a man (Washington) protecting a sacred book that contains answers to saving America. A villain named Carnegie (Gary Oldman) seeks out Eli to capture it and sends his main goon (Ray Stevenson). Along the way he picks up a young female sidekick (Mila Kunis).
Update2: The trailer was just released on Apple.com and has clips of Washington kicking some ass.
ScriptShadow has an early look at the script, which sounds pretty awesome. Eli »
