The Last Airbender

Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series

Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the man behind Amelie and The City of the Lost Children, is bringing us a new slice of fried madness in Micmacs - and there's a new UK trailer online to give us a better taste of what flavour of barmy is in store.Our hero is Bazil (French superstar Dany Boon) who is accidentally shot in the head and finds his whole life turned upside down. Homeless, he ends up being taken in by a group of eccentrics, and starts to plot with them to take down the source of all his woes: the weapons manufacturers responsible for the bullets that hit him and killed his father years before.Micmacs is out here in the UK on March 26, but if you need to see it sooner, learn some French and hop on the Eurostar, because it's already out in its native land.

Sony gets 'Micmacs'

Jean Pierre-Jeunet has found a new landing pad for his dreamy concoctions. His latest, Micmacs, has been acquired for U.S. and Latin American distribution by Sony Pictures Classics, according to Variety.
The whimsical-looking French comedy, from the filmmaking team behind the international hit Amelie, was expected to be released by Warner Brothers, especially since it was a co-production with Warner Bros. France. In addition, Warner Independent Pictures released Jeunet’s last film A Very Long Engagement. However, with the Warner Independent label recently shuttering, no distributor was firmly in place.
Hopefully, Jeunet reuniting with Sony, the distributor of many of his earlier films including The City of Lost Children, means Micmacs will see at least a limited release in the U.S. this year. The film was written by Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, whose Amelie proved popular on this side of the pond.
Micmacs, which Sony reportedly picked up for slightly over $1 million,

We thought we were finished, but everybody wants to come to our scary shindig next week! Legendary Skinny Puppy singer Nivek Ogre (a.k.a. Oghr) and a few more notable genre folks have joined the lineup of the fast approaching West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa).
Ogre will appear with his Repo! The Genetic Opera cast and crew on Sunday. The singer played Pavi Largo in the cult horror/rock musical. The latest bonus guests (hey, we are running out of room!) include:

The Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors just keeps getting better, with so many guests being added (and some day-of surprises in-store!) that we can barely keep up here at Fango HQ! The latest addition to the West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa) is G Tom Mac, the writer and voice of "Cry Little Sister" from The Lost Boys. Wrestler/They Live star Roddy Piper and a ton more genre stars have joined the lineup of the fast approaching West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Piper will appear with his daughter, actress Ariel Teal Toombs of Creeper (formerly Little F*Cker), on Sunday to discuss their respective new fright films (also screening at the con), including Piper’s new anthology A Gothic Tale (pictured).

Drag Me To Hell actors Justin Long and Lorna Raver (Fango #283’s cover girl!) have joined the lineup of the upcoming West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Long (of the Jeepers Creepers films and Live Free Or Die Hard) and Raver (a TV actress who has logged time on Star Trek: Voyager, Charmed and Weeds) will join director Sam Raimi on Friday at the show.

Prong mainman Tommy Victor, who was recently interviewed by Fangoria (read it here) will be appearing at Fangoria's Weekend Of Horrors in Los Angeles, April 17-19, 2009. Victor, who recently toured with both Ministry and Danzig, will see the release of Prong's Power Of The Damn Mixxxer (read our review) on May 12th, 2009 via 13th Planet Records.
Tommy will be appearing at the Schecter Guitar Research booth for signing sessions throughout the weekend, along with Skumlove, who's new album The Church Of The New Perversion was recently recorded and co-written with Victor.
Music from Skumlove's past album Songs Of Lust And Corrosion were featured on the Award winning Horror-Porn DVD "Grub Girl" and the B-style horror movie Intermedio starring Edward Furlong (Terminator 2) and Amber Benson (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer).

House Of Wax remake director Jaume Collet-Serra (pictured below) has joined the line-up of the upcoming West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Attending Sunday, the Barcelona-born Collet-Serra will be previewing his new chiller Orphan at the show. The Warner Bros./Dark Castle picture, about an evil child, opens July 24.

A panel devoted to the Night Of The Demons remake will take place at the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Appearing at the preview (slotted for Saturday) will be the film’s new Angela, Shannon Elizabeth (pictured) of Scary Movie, Cursed, 13 Ghosts and the first two American Pie movies.
Joining Elizabeth will be her Demons co-stars: Freddy Vs. Jason’s Monica Keena, Tiffany Shepis and Laid To Rest’s Bobbi Sue Luther, as well as director/co-writer Adam Gierasch of Autopsy and his Mother Of Tears/Toolbox Murders co-scripter Jace Anderson. “We will have never-before-seen clips, and we also may bring another surprise actor or two,” says Anderson.

A panel devoted to the new spooky flick Dark House, starring Jeffrey Combs, will take place at the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Appearing at the preview (slotted for Sunday) will be writer/director Darin Scott (Tales From The Hood) and his cast, including Combs, Rest Stop’s Diane Salinger, Boogeyman 2’s Matt Cohen, Megan Ory, One Tree Hill’s Bevin Prince, Dollhouse’s Erin Cummings and Reeker’s Scott Whyte.

Genre heavyweight Ron Perlman has joined the lineup of the next West Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, to be held April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa). Besides his starring turns in the Hellboy movies and on the cult TV series Beauty And The Beast, Perlman’s long career has included roles in Cronos, Alien Resurrection, The Last Winter, The Name Of The Rose, Desperation, Masters Of Horror (John Carpenter’s Pro-Life), Sleepwalkers, The City Of Lost Children, Star Trek: Nemesis and the upcoming I Sell The Dead, Season Of The Witch and The Devil’S Tomb.
